Strengthening Ties

With her election campaign well under way, Kay was looking through all of promises that she had made so far. Each dealt with the economy, crime and trade. But Defence was something else entirely. Centuries ago, Commenor was one of the leading shipbuilding ports for both the Republic and the Empire. It was one of those planets that tended to remain neutral, though it did choose sides from time to time. It had a great defensive grid to protect the trade routes along the Commenor Sector. For a while now though, Commenor was left on her own. Everything ran more smoothly and there was no need.

But all that has changed. Kay had many contacts with military forces that could help. Now it was time for her to reach out to them and see who had resources available at this moment.

[member="Valentinian Alexandrus III"] came to mind. So she reached out to him, sending him a message:

"Greetings, M'Lord. It's Kay. I was wondering if we could have a meeting with regards to some of your fine soldiers? I can't go into specifics at this time, but can do so once we are face to face. Currently I am on Commenor, which is a bit of a distance from Rhun, but can be made in a day's journey. Please let me know what you decide."

Valentinian stroked his chin as he looked out the Window of his current abode. With an uneasy ceasefire finally having been negotiated with the invaders, Rhun was being slowly evacuated by her lord. In just three more months time the last transport bearing the Rhunedmen would leave the planet, and their second exodus from their home would begin. It seemed this was the hand fate had delt Rhun's people, forever to be wandering in search of a home.

And then his computer terminal lit up with a message.

It seemed his old acquaintance, perhaps even friend (It was so hard to judge people's exact dispositions sometime), was requesting to meet with him. One had to make time for people such as this however, in the most trying times the only one thing that could be relied was a friend. And Gods knew, Valentinian needed one in his people's dark time.

He scrolled down the list of options on the terminal, why was the "Reply" button always hidden behind so many other various useless filters and other misc items. Finally he found it, and began to format a reply.

"Of Course, such a thing may be arranged. I will begin my preparations soon, and you may expect me within the end of the standard galactic week. My best wishes to you,

-Valentinian Alexandrus III"

Despite the Impersonality of an electronic message, Valentinian's upbringing caused him to always write them as he would a more physical letter, for good or for Ill.

With the message sent be began to put movements into place to have his ministers see to the evacuation effort, and within a few days time Valentinian's ship was finally on course to Commenor

Kay read the reply and breathed a small sigh of relief. He was coming. Their last meeting had her helping him out. Now it was his turn to return the favour.

Days later, Valentinian's ship was given the location for the landing platform. Kay, wearing a simple light cream dress, waited patiently nearby as she watched the ship descend from the clouds. It was her hope that he was doing well. They had much to catch up on and discuss.

Valentinian stepped forth from the landing ramp of his ship, offering the Lady a soft smile and a gentle bow before he approached her

"My Lady"

He offered her the traditional greeting the two had shared since they met. Formal, but it had somehow stuck in his interactions with her. For a woman of her role and personality, the respectful term seemed only appropriate. He reflected for a moment, the last time they had met, he had been the lord of a planet, now, he was little more than a leader of a large group of Nomads. Soon he would likely lay down his crown as well, he had no right to call himself a King, Prince, or even Lord under these circumstances.

"I pray that the times have treated you well?"

Slightly formal, but still heartfelt as he took her hand and kissed it

Kay smiled and bowed her head in return as he bowed to her. He had an odd way of treating her so highly. At least he did so with respect, which was more than she could say about some others.

"For the most part, they have M'Lord. The Free Colonies is no more, however. And now I am here, on the path towards leadership. This is the world that I used to represent when it was a part of the Republic. War has caused it to go neutral, however. And now some have asked me to do more than just represent them.

"How have you been since I had seen you last?"

Oh my, Kay was running for the presidency? This was quite interesting to the (former) Lord of Rhun. He considered her for a long few moments, before a gentle smile formed on his lips. Yes, She would do an excellent job leading just about any peoples he decided.

"Well, I wish you all of the best then, My lady. I believe you are quite capable for the office, and I will be glad to attend the event itself when you are pronounced president. That is, if you would have me there at all. As for how I have been?""

He paused, to give out a soft sigh. He was not well, because Rhun was not well, and his heart lay with that poor, broken world.

"Things are well, as well as could be expected. I find little to complain with these days"
