- Fast: The Styxite-class is designed primarily for high sublight and atmospheric speed as evidenced by its hull shape and enlarged engine bank, allowing it to respond quickly to pirate attacks or other emergencies.
- Maneuverable:The Styxite-class is fairly maneuverable, largely in order to better navigate through stellar obstacles and thick orbital traffic above some worlds.
- Docking Bay: The Styxite-class has a single dorsal docking bay large enough to fit a small freighter in cramped conditions. This is usually used to impound a ship and board it to find smuggled goods or people.

The Styxite-class is a patrol ship used by the Rimward Trade League that is similar in vein to the older IPV-1 System Patrol Craft. Like this predecessors, the Styxite's exceptionally high sublight speed and maneuverability allows it to chase down smugglers, quickly intercept pirates, or respond to other emergencies in times of needs. This usually makes a Styxite a system's first line of defense. However, the Styxite has some notable noncombat features that were desired by the Rimward Trade League in order to increase their utility for their civilian infrastructure. These features include the ability to help deploy hyperspace beacon to help map out hyperspace lanes and probots to better scout out planets and other anomalies. Because space can be a dangerous place, the Styxite also has a larger than normal sickbay in order to help stabilize the victims of deep space accidents or pirate attacks. While not likely to impress the average naval officer, Styxites are an invaluable part of the Rimward Trade League's efforts to support their peoples.
