- Elite Training: The Special Reconnaissance Regiment is Suarbi's military special operations force. Members are recruited primarily from the Mobile Infantry Corps or the Mechanized Infantry Corps, but they also recruit directly from outside Suarbi's defense forces, especially in League worlds with high numbers of other species. To join the SRR, one has to first go through the Suarbi Defense Force's Basic Military Training, followed by the Mobile Infantry Assault Survival School, the Special Reconnaissance Selection Preparation Course, the Special Reconnaissance Qualifications School, and then their particular skill schools, meaning that each SRR commando has gone through between one and three years of training before deployment.
- Patience is a Virtue: As a deep-recon and special operations force, SRR members are heavily drilled in patience, level-headedness, and self-discipline, even drawing on some of the training techniques of the Rimward Jedi Coalition, allowing them to go in long before the timing of the operation and wait for however long it takes, whether it be watching an enemy outpost for two weeks to gauge its guard schedule, or inserting into a hostile world and living with the resistance for three years.
- Living off the Land: All SRR commandos are highly trained survivalists, taught as many survival techniques on as many worlds as they can establish foraging procedures, giving them better chances at enduring long deployments without logistical support, as well as being able to steal, refit, and maintain.
- Blend In: The Outer Rim is a deeply diverse region of the galaxy with thousands of species. That means that a human-only unit would be very notable in various worlds. As a result, the SRR actively recruits from as many Outer Rim species as possible- both internal and external to the League. As a result, they can adjust their deployments based on most common species in any given world.
- Light Infantry: While they are sometimes equipped with anti-material and medium automatic weapons, the SRR don't have heavy equipment- be it heavy weapons, defense emplacements, or dedicated air defense weapons. They have to hide, evade, or steal heavy equipment if they realize they need it.
- Behind Enemy Lines: Even compared to the mobile infantry, the SRR operate in hostile territory pretty much at all times, either through training guerilla resistance movements or identifying and sabotaging critical targets, as well as creating landing zones for Mobile Infantry Companies. The SRR rarely has support and relies on mobility and stealth to evade being destroyed.
From the Omega Protectorate to the Galactic Alliance to the Outer Rim Coalition, Suarbi has seen numerous major military powers come and go in the Outer Rim. With establishing the Rimward Trade League, Suarbi defense leaders realized that lacking a highly centralized military meant each system would have to invest more aggressively in their defense forces, which was a big motivation for the League's military structure.
Knowing that they were building essentially from scratch, the Suarbi System Republic underwent a major military reform operations, especially as it became clear that they would be one of the key governments contributing to the League's armed forces. As a result, the Suarbi Defense Force was reorganized into a pyramid structure, giving the Defense Force a wide array of resources and material to draw from as you proceeded up the triangle.
The SRR is essentially at the pinnacle of the pyramid, except for some notably smaller special operations groups designed and created for unique purposes. Colonel Krenis Skirata designed the SRR with the contracted assistance of Noah Corek and the Galactic Foreign Legion.. creating a highly versatile unit that can be deployed across the Outer Rim in 12-soldier teams that operate independently and can break down even further.
The initial elements of the SRR were drawn from Galactic Alliance and Outer Rim Coalition partisans, but recruits were quickly drawn in from League systems, the Chiss Semi-Autonomous Dominion, and the mobile infantry corps to begin operations against the Sith Order. With the formalization of the Joint Strategic Command, significant elements of the SRR were assigned to the Joint Strategic Command to operate under the auspices of the League Defense Advisory Board.
