- Hidden: The Subdermal Implant Knife or SIK is a small almost tube like hilt that is implanted underneath the skin. The weapon itself is placed near the surface, though deep enough that it does not show at a glance. The hilt is also covered in a thin anti-sensor coating, allowing it to escape detection of sensors and metal metal detectors. This means that it is nearly impossible to detect the SIK once it's in place.
- Phase Knife: The SIK is a Phase-knife, based off of ancient technology. The hilt of the weapon 'projects' a blade that is razor sharp, allowing it to effectively cut organic material and even some heavy metals. The blade is not the same as a lightsaber and is therefore unable to perform many of the same functions, It's uses however remain wide and varied.
- Small: The SIK is not a very large weapon, in fact even with the blade activated the entire thing only reaches 18cm in length. The applications of such a blade are extremely limited, and fighting anyone with it is difficult. One has to be careful in the actual application of the SIK.
- Painful: Obviously, the Subermal Implant Knife is placed beneath the skin. This means that in order to actually get the weapon one would have to...well get it out. Most of the time this is done in extremely violent methods, either using an available sharp object to cut it out or even activating the blade while it is still under the skin. Though this can be dangerous, the SIK is implanted in areas of the body that would make removal painful, but not fatal.
As a criminal cartel, it was not lost on the members of the Thawne Family or their compatriots that from time to time they might either get disarmed, or even captured.
This revelation, if it could be called that, came upon the Cartel quite early on, and thus it was decided that something would need to be done about it. Utilizing the rather large corporation at their disposal, the Thawne family ordered the creation of a weapon that would give them an edge when either captured or being held.
Taking inspiration from the Yuuzhan Vong fighting claw, as well as Coratanni's propensity for brutality, the Subdermal Implant Knife(SIK) came into being.
Not overly complex, the SIK itself is just a standard Phase-Knife. It's operational design is exactly the same as the ancient weapons, and even it's function is much the same. The only difference is that the SIK is covered in an anti-sensor coating and is created out of materials difficult to spot on x-rays and other probing equipment. This, of course, was by design and allows the SIK to remain hidden within the body.
The use of the SIK is quite simple, generally meant as a last resort to either take ones own life or as an edge in taking a captor prisoner and turning the tables.
