SPECIAL FEATURES:
- A powerful lightning beam cannon, capable of delivering incredible destructive power – in the air, in space, and undersea – the Summanus’ extreme range and stopping power makes it an awesome addition to any ship’s arsenal.
- Uses a targeting laser to ensure precision accuracy in air and space, allowing the beam to following the laser's path to its target.
STRENGTHS:
- Deals extreme thermal, electrical, EMP, and kinetic damage, striking with incredible potency and accuracy at extreme distances to cause maximum damage against enemies, making it one of the most powerful weapons of its types in use today.
- Can be fired underwater, where it has an even greater effect, due to the conductivity of water.
WEAKNESSES:
- Can only be mounted on ships 5,000m and above.
- Requires tremendous power consumption, diverting all power away from other weaponry temporarily as it fires. Further, if the power system for this weapon should become damaged or diminished, even by just 10%, the weapon cannot fire again until the system is repaired to proper working condition at optimal levels.
- Only a single weapon of this type can be mounted on a ship of any size, due to the extreme onboard space required for its various systems relative to the size of the ship.
- Split-seconds before it fires, an energy spike occurs, making the weapon and the ship it is mounted on easily detected by enemy sensors for a very brief ‘blip’. However, an enemy scanning for this ‘blip’ can – when it appears – triangulate the ship’s position regardless of any stealth technologies in use.
- If fired underwater, the effect is increased considerably but so then is the area of that effect, eliminating its ability for precision strikes, negating thermal and kinetic damage, and instead functioning more as a very powerful wide-area dispersed EMP. This may endanger friendly ships and their crews, and also lacks the same devastating firepower as it would have if brought to bear on a single target.
DESCRIPTION:
Having the capacity to make a single, well-placed shot a potential death blow to even the largest of ships, or – at the very least – to deliver an astounding and truly awe-inspiring degree of damage, the Summanus is a weapon to behold indeed. Firing a focused beam of high-intensity electricity from incredible distances, the Summanus can yield potent thermal, EMP, electrical, and kinetic damage against its target. Able to be used underwater as well, the effect transforms to act more akin to a very powerful wide-area EMP strike, which if not executed with care, may have dire effects against friendly ships.
The sheer power of this weapon aside, it does have some pretty nasty drawbacks. When fired, it temporarily takes other weaponry offline for a few seconds, leaving the ship defenseless for a moment. Furthermore, the energy spike just before the weapon is used cannot be muted or concealed, and regardless of any stealth technologies in use, the ship firing it becomes – for just an instant – easily detected by most military-grade sensor systems, enabling keen and vigilant opponents to look for this spike in an attempt to triangulate the ship’s location.
As such, the Summanus represents one of the most potent shipboard weapons systems ever devised (or frankly allowed by galactic law), but it must be used with reason and prudence, making full surety and provision for its awesome power and both the requirements to do so, and the effects of that act.
