PRODUCTION INFORMATION

Manufacturer: VisTech Diversified Industries, LLC
Affiliation: Closed-Market
Model: Sun Wukong Tractor Beam Projector System
Modularity: None
Production: Mass-Produced
Material(s):
SPECIAL FEATURES:
  • Kyber-enhanced tractor beam greatly magnifies the power and ‘grip’ of the tractor beam, enabling far greater holding power and allowing movement of greater size and weight objects than most conventional tractor beams will permit.
  • Integrated and micronized targeting array allows increased accuracy, safety, and beam placement, even against longer-range targeted objects.
STRENGTHS:
  • Able to reach further, hold tighter, and move objects much larger than conventional tractor beams.
  • Integrated targeting array and special sensitivity sensors ensure movements can be made securely and safely, without damage either one’s ship or the object being moved.
  • Micronized design is balanced to provide this ability to small craft, ranging from zero to 200m, making it ideal for commercial/industrial applications, search-and-rescue, route-clearing and salvage operations, etc.
WEAKNESSES:
  • Not a weapon, the Sun Wukong is a tool, able to take hold of and move objects in space, and that is all. It isn’t designed to cause damage to those objects, merely to move them about and nothing more.
  • Designed originally for tugs and similar craft, the Sun Wukong isn’t built to be ‘sized up’ and its micronized design means it is best suited for ships under 200m in size. They’re intended to let small ships move bigger things, but any attempt to ‘scale up’ to allow larger ships to the same will overtax the balanced micronized system and not only burn out the system entirely, but will result in a massive build-up of energy which will cause an explosion ripping a hole in the hull of the starship.
  • Powerful not unbeatable, the Sun Wukong can grab hold of ships and move them, even objects much larger than the ships they’re meant to be used on, but ships with tough enough tractor shrouds or else powerful engines like those carried on large corvettes or bigger vessels can and likely will break free if they really ‘put their back(s) into it’.
DESCRIPTION:

Let’s be clear, the Sun Wukong isn’t a weapon. Its very design nature shows this. It was meant to allow small craft like tugs move larger ships with greater acuity and efficiency than standard tractor beam projectors, a quality made possible by the inclusion of nichalorite stones into the design. It was designed to do so carefully, allowing precision maneuvering and careful movement of objects much larger than the ships using it might find possible to do with conventional projectors. A 50m ship could easily move about a 200m asteroid or a CR90 Corvette, even if the corvette decided to break free and fired its engines, due to the enhanced beam’s strength and accuracy. However, it would have much different results against 1,000m ship, and any technician crazy enough to try to scale it up into a larger platform would find that the balanced micronization of the Sun Wukong’s components doesn’t translate well, resulting in a massive power build-up and potentially catastrophic explosion. Best to leave it to the small ships for which it was built.

However, the kyber-enhanced beam intensity and power, coupled with the integrated onboard targeting array, makes for the Sun Wukong to be able to precisely capture objects much further away, moving and manipulating them more easily than conventional beams, with a far stronger hold than those conventional beams can provide. Sure, it won’t keep a Star Destroyer from pulling away, not even close, but it will let captains of small vessels more securely and nimbly push, pull, and even tow vessels twice and even three times their size. Perfect for moving about crowded space over a dock or spaceport, removing obstacles, and more and to do so safely, without harming those objects with so much as a scratch to the paintjob.
