Inbuilt Rail Accelerator
Laser Sight
Rail Accelerator
The Sunshot contains a longer than normal barrel which contains a small rail gun. Capable of accelerating the blaster’s shots. Activating the rail gun allows the blaster bolt to be accelerated. This charged mode also activates an overcharge in the gun, increasing the potency of each shot. Accelerator shots have an increased range and hitting power at the cost of an increased use of consumables.
Laser Sight
A weapon such as the Sunshot is designed to be used at ranges longer than the normal pistol, and so comes equipped with a laser sight that allows for more accurate shots at a long distance.
Weaknesses:
Bulky
The Elongated barrel on the Sunshot provides it with its signature sunshot ability but at the same time, it makes the gun unwieldy in a close range fight. The long barrel means that it’s harder to track and fire someone close to you and the weapon can be knocked away by a skilled opponent.
Eats through Ammo
The overpowered shot mode available to the Sunshot may have the ability to punch through light armour, but it isn’t without a cost.
DESCRIPTION
As part of their focus on the battlefield dominated by powerful armoured suits Locke and Key Mechanics turned their attention to the weapons used by the combatants. The marketplace was filled with weaponry, but they wanted to provide a weapon that could provide the extra punch to press through the armour available, something that had a punch but could still be useful.
To achieve this they first went in to look at the projectile, that is to say the blaster bolt itself. Because a blaster is just plasma encapsulated in a magnetic field it has to obey to rules of physics, that is to say that both the plasma and the magnetic field containing it must be vulnerable to magnetic forces. With that realization under their belt the engineers realised that by using a rail gun built into the gun they were able to accelerate the blaster bolt. Yet, this alone would have no difference on the outcome of a fight, a blaster bolt travelling faster might hit with a greater force, but it’s not enough to win a fight.
They were stumped, until they came to a realisation, the technology they needed already existed. Overcharged blaster bolts were a commonly used technology, and one they could take advantage of. By overcharging a blaster bolt and then accelerating it via the rail gun the resulting bolt would be powerful enough to blast it’s way through some armours. Heavy armour will still stop it, the blast being equivalent to a heavy blaster rifle, albeit with less ammunition and less range.
