And as far as RP is concerned, no, you don't. You can if you want to. If you want a custom super special lightsaber though, you might wanna check the Factory category out and check with the judges there.

This is all about having fun and not getting weighed down too much in crafting and creating everything. Big, special and ultra-unique items or weapons/ships/planets extra will need to be created by you in our 'Factory' area.
But get to grips with the site and the RP system first before worrying about all that!
Just say you were handed down a lightsaber, or found it, or assembled it yourself from studies and blue-prints (not that you need to explain everything about your character history) and have fun out there!

But sometimes, there are these things that could be proven to be god-modding or cause more damage a single character should have so then we have the Factory, not just for lightsabers either. There are those who love to create things for themselves and others but some of us (like me) know very little of this (and yet I'm quite gifted when it comes to home improvements, lol) so we stay clear of that place. But like I said, there are those that are quite good at it so if you're ever curious, you can always talk to someone!
But [member="Connor Harrison"] right. Plenty of ways of getting a lightsaber. I have a character who arrived to group training without a weapon and her Dad just tossed her one of his own (custom made by the writer but that's irrelevant). So just go and have fun!

[member="Rach Tarvus"] As you learn more about the site and the community and the "galaxy" we RP in you'll probably get more ideas and knowledge to craft your own lightsaber with unique attributes, so give it time and you'll be right into the more technical side of creating your character's own items.
