- SubLight Maneuvering Thrusters
- The SUPER-9 Auxillary Boosters are a nice touch for any ship looking to increase its maneuverability in realspace. These boosters are particularly dangerous for ships that would typically be vulnerable to a flanking frigate or corvette, as they’re able to suddenly swing their vulnerable engines away and bring their weapons to bear.
- Inclusive
- From shuttle pods to Dreadnaughts, the SUPER-9s can be outfitted on just about any ship
- I take the Dodge action
- The SUPER-9 Boosters provide sudden and powerful acceleration along an unexpected axis when triggered. This can either be a continuous boost in a single direction to rapidly reorient a ship or a series of unpredictable bursts to throw off incoming fire
- Mini-Engines
- Due to their incredible power, SUPER-9s can actually function as backup engines. Granted, they're much slower than dedicated SubLight drives, but they allow ships to move throughout realspace if their engines are damage or malfunctioning, albeit at what is likely a non-conventional angle
- Momentum Transfer
- Moving at high speeds and activating SUPER-9 Boosters to try and throw a ship out of danger is risky, the sudden acceleration could damage the ship as it's ripped away from its axis.
- Additionally, on ships with damaged gravity systems or inertial dampeners, or on ships without sufficiently advanced ones, those on board might be thrown around during a maneuver with the SUPER-9s if caught off guard.
- Ravenous
- The SUPER-9 Boosters require quite a bit of power to generate the acceleration force they do. Like SLAM functions, SUPER-9s often need to draw on power from a ship's other systems. Most commonly this is the engines, but this is merely conventions as SUPER-9s can draw from any viable power source (such as weapons, shields, etc.)
DESCRIPTION
Proposed by Treatech R&D as an alternative or supplement to SLAM, the SUPER-9 (Sublight Uniformed Principle Engine Reserve) Booster system is able to rapidly accelerate a ship in realspace along any axis. Quick enough to throw off targeting computers, and sometimes missiles (especially when installed in smaller ships), the SUPER-9 acts as a way to artifically (and cheaply!) increase the sublight maneuverability of any ship without having to install advanced engines.
