- The Need for Speed: Recalling the tales of Surrel and his squad mates, his namesake X-Wing was built for speed with a high speed and maneuverability rating.
- Top Down: The canopy is perhaps the X-Wing’s easiest target, made of glasteel, and although shielded. It’s one of the Surrel’s drawbacks, as the pilot is essentially exposed for the duration of their flight.
- Welcome to the Slam: The Surrel’s teeth are reduced significantly while SLAM is activated, limiting its firepower and overall damage output.
Ethanael, having access to some of Primo Victorian’s assets, sought to create an X-Wing that could be utilized throughout the rim. One that could withstand today’s modern technology but still allow the different systems within both the Unknown Regions and the Outer Rim to imprint their own unique designs onto the X-Wing. Consulting Primo Victorian’s archives regarding intergalactic vessels on Dosuun. The young man took to the drawing board and created what he called the Surrel-class.
The Surrel-class is named for Ralo Surrel of Red Squadron, a member of the Alliance to Restore the Republic. The Surrel would in effect create a uniform standard for the Rimward Trade League, allowing both Rescue Service and Defence Forces a basic, bare-bones fighter that could then be further modified for different tasks.
Unsure how to go about the construction of the X-Wing, Ethanael turned to Primo Victorian’s archives and began to build utilizing what was available to him. Working under the premise of if it isn’t broken, don’t fix it. The Dosuunian maintained most of the T-70’s armaments, with few adjustments. The addition of the SubLight Accelerator Motor meant that the fighter had to be larger to accommodate it, and that meant smaller squadron sizes.
Another adjustment to the X-Wing was the inclusion of an auxiliary battery and its emergency backup. This battery would not do anything more than allow life support to come on and maintain the fighter’s bare minimal survival systems. Essentially keeping the pilot alive and the droid powered until other systems can be powered up, or the duo are evacuated.
Once satisfied with his adjustments, Ethanael called an old friend of the family to help test the Surrel’s prototype. After the friend was satisfied with the fighter, the young Dosuunian had the fighter put into production with the first squadron having been personally delivered to the Ranger Corps.
