Highly decorated within the Royal Atrisian military before the death of emperor Akio. Suzaku rose to be one of the martial instructors taking pride in his works until the battle against the lords of the fringe when they invaded Atrisia. Dropping one of the defensive towers on the city from sustained attacks the instructor was with what military forces were in the capital at the time and the lone survivor. For his dedication he was given new cybernetic limbs but wasn't able to meet the original levels he strived for. So to save face he was presented with a post in Kansai far from the capital where he could over see the Onyx empresses experiment in fashioning some of the strongest fighters.
He took the academy posting and brought back from their decadence the Southern academy. They didn't have the activism of the eastern or the military prowess of the west and engineering wise they couldn't match the north but they had discipline and drive to become the best. Fashioning their skills with support craft and airships. They could become more overwhelming with practice rounds and mobile artillery compared to the other academies and when it was clear they only needed to beat the eastern academy who was more interested in marching and claiming what was wrong or shouting... well when the empress came and said one of the academies was going to be cut out of the reconstruction of the city he made sure it wasn't them.
