SPECIAL FEATURES
- Essentially reverse 3D printing. Can be programmed to assume a solid shape and it flows into that form and locks. See below for further elaboration.
- Strengths are adaptability, resilience, small carrying size (can form into little balls which then form into what is needed) and how the thickness is variable since it's all based on volume.
- Easy to reform and reconfigure itself unless massive damage is done to the overall.
- The nanobots cannot form complex mechanisms or incorporate other tech.
- EMP. Nanobots are affected by ion and EMP attacks as any machine. Though they have some protection, strong ion strikes will destroy the bots.
- Not great at stopping lightsabres, mechu-deru and massive damage blowing up chunks of the swarm, and giving it less to reform with. Strong technopaths are particularly disruptive to its ability to self-repair and reform.
Nanotechnology is a fairly recently opened field of galactic innovation, picking up from ancient attempts to utilise this technology during the Clone Wars. For Enyo Typhos and her clone siblings, their takeover of Archangel allowed them much greater access to resources than they had previously. They found that Archangel had attempted to create nanotech items, but had never reached completion. Further information and even some workable prototypes were acquired from stealing the research of the defunct Contingency.
There were obviously many ways a clone group running a ruthless, self-serving syndicate and raised by genocidal HRDs could employ such dangerous technology. Nanotechnology has myriad applications, though some are...uncontrollable. Unleashing apocalyptic grey-goo plagues is not of interest to Enyo because she deems it illogical. She does, however, have an interest in nanobot constructors. Essentially, it is like of like reverse 3D printing. Thus the Multi-Configuration Nanobot project came into being. Much to her annoyance, her posse prefers 'Swarm of the Myriad" which Enyo thinks makes no sense and suspects her siblings are trolling her over. She's probably correct.
Regardless, the nanobots can be programmed to assume a solid shape and it flows into that form and locks. There is a multitude of tiny which can be programmed to form together into shapes. That could be as simple as a table or as relatively complex as a table and chair set. They key is that each little robot is its own thing but is commanded as part of a whole.
On a practical spectrum the technology is best used in prepared situations. But there are some where it is useful in the moment. For instance, can't get up somewhere, or there's a chasm blocking your way? The nanobots can form a stairway or a bridge. An enemy is shooting at you and you have no cover? They can form a wall. This can, of course, also be used to set traps.
In a broader sense one can have rooms or buildings where the furnishings and items can adapt and change dependant. However, there are limitations. The nanobots cannot form complex mechanisms or incorporate other tech, though this is not a huge problem.
