Sylus (Γ059)
Rama-Actual
Born to unknown parents on a certain day, Sylus' birth coincided with that of the Sith Empire. Growing up on Bastion in those tumultuous days, Sylus lived as a war orphan in the large tent cities surrounding the rapidly expanding military facilities. As time went on, he was forced by circumstance to take on a leading role and enforcer of a roving orphan gang, learning from the adults and teens of his first real family how to look over his even younger charges and the necessity of meting out swift vengeance on those that tried to wrong them.
He began to display Force Sensitivity during this time, but somehow evaded notice until around the age of eight, when crackdowns by Sith authorities on the shanty cities led to their discovery of his force-sensitivity and his position as leader of his pack of cast-offs. Sylus was swiftly removed from his family and placed under the 'care' of the state. Compounding his misfortune, his psychological, Force and physical profile matched the requirements of the Gamma Project, intended to construct living weapons out of children, and so was whisked away to hidden facilities. He endured brutal training and indoctrination with the other children which pitted them against each other. As one of the oldest, Sylus attempted to thwart their masters' attempts at weeding out the weakest through maintaining cohesiveness, but the brutal manipulations of their trainers prevented this. In time, the subjects of Gamma split into several groups as the trainers intended.
During this time, Sylus managed to regain some normalcy as leader of his small group. These came the closest to becoming a functioning group of friends, supporting each other, and covering each other's backs if they should run afoul of the masters. As time went on, the seeds of hate and resentment were planted. When Sylus and the oldest of the subjects entered their teenage years, the subjects were formally split into their informal groups and pitted against each other in a final brutal round of months of conflict, pushing the subjects to their limit and cementing the skills that had been hammered into them. Sylus was forced to slay many of his fellow subjects himself, sometimes to protect his group and sometimes by direct command and threats from the masters. When all was over, the remaining subjects began the augmentation procedure. Brutalised and subject to immense agony, Sylus underwent cybernetic and alchemical enhancements, his body evolving to unnatural capabilities. When the procedures were complete, Sylus's new body and his training had transformed him into a powerful and brutal tool for the Dark Council.
Over the next few years, the Gamma commandos were put to the test in real combat. The suppressed force presence of Gamma operatives made them perfect for taking out hostile Sith and Jedi, but over time they were increasingly used on any and all targets that threatened the increasingly unstable Sith Empire. Sylus was placed in a leadership role and led group missions into the heart of enemy territory. His group's missions tended to be larger destablising missions that sowed rampant destruction. Over time however, his group lost members from attrition and the risks in such missions. Sylus' mental state became worse, becoming more controlling and even harsh to the only ones he called friends.
Nearing the collapse of the Sith Empire, attrition across all of the Gamma group resulted in inefficient mission allocation, making things worse. By this time, almost all of his remaining friends lay dead. His increasing instability and controlling personality had alienated him from many of them, but their deaths still hurt him. Vowing never to let them come to any more harm, he delivered worse results and increasingly outright ignored objectives as it suited him. He began to prioritise the survival of his comrades, which increasingly came at odds with the Sith Empire's more desperate situation and the missions Gamma was assigned.
On a fateful day, Sylus' team was sent to destroy a rebel group on yet another a backwater planet that wish to join the growing New Imperial Order. However, the rebel base was heavily entrenched, and soon to be reinforced by NIO forces that were cutting their way through Sith space in their direction. Weighing his options, Sylus decided on a slow, methodical approach. However, the Sith Empire's patience on almost anything was wearing very thin at this point in the war. Big and flashy results bred fear and obedience in potential rebels, and Sylus' team was not delivering even though the uncoordinated rebels were already falling apart. Scant days after silent deployment, the Sith decided they were taking too long. Unable to contact the team that had gone silent-running, multiple legions and a carpet-bombing strike hit the base. Sylus' team died at the hands of wholescale bombardment and trigger-happy Sith soldiers.
The death of his team broke Sylus, one of only two survivors of the annihilation of the base. He had failed what family he still had and was Betrayed by the state he had been forced to give so much for. Only vengeance drove him now, and he vowed to destroy the Sith. An ill-advised effort to take on the Sith army resulted in the death of his last friend, who forced Sylus to run and save himself. Wandering the blasted wasteland, he turned himself in to the custody of an old Imperial Knight when the NIO finally arrived.
He was hesitant to share all of his past, but divulged most of his past to the Knight who was his interrogator/debriefer, enough that he was handed over to the Imperial Knights for training due to his (then suppressed) Force Sensitivity. For the next few years, the Knights took him on as an acolyte under the aging Knight. Sylus, however, was spiritutally unbalanced. Apart from his suppressed Force connection, his obsessive vengeance and bubbling resentment made retraining a time-consuming task. When his master unexpectedly passed several years into his training, COMPNOR and ISB specifically had gotten wind of the true nature and scope of Sylus' enhancements and the Gamma project. Without someone to vouch for him, the Knights were not unenthusiastic in handing him over to ISB. There, his handlers promised Sylus that which he truly sought: vengeance. He combined the skills he learned as a Gamma with the rudimentary training under the Knights to become a weapon for ISB in rooting out and destroying Dark Side threats to the New Imperial Order, and has since further honed his skills as a commando and assassin. Since then, Sylus has also worked to trace leads on any Gamma survivors to join him in his quest to eradicate the Sith once and for all.
