"Relax, think about what you want the suit to do, and then let it do the work."
-Norr Instructor
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
  • Intent: Create a bodysuit technology that forms part of Norr Powersuit designs utilising principles of piezoelectricity to create significant mechanical advantage without the presence of large exoskeleton systems to permit the construction of power suits that resemble a traditional suit of armour.

PRODUCTION INFORMATION
SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Hololink Connectivity: This technology connects to the user's central nervous system through the Hololink device; the Hololink converts the electrochemical signals from the brain into digital instructions; these digital instructions travel to the wearer's muscles through the spinal cord. As the electrical impulse contacts the motor control neuron, the layer generates an electrical impulse from the wearer's nervous system, which causes a piezoelectric effect, and the layer deforms along the desired axis of the moment. When the layer ceases to generate electrical impulses under mechanical load, the material inside the layer reverts to its original state. In short, the user's thoughts move a bodysuit equipped with this layer, and the bodysuit itself moves the wearer, a fully neural-linked suit.
STRENGTHS
  • Reaction Time: Because the layer drives the wearer's body in response to electrical command stimuli from the nervous system, it significantly reduces reaction time to external stimuli.
  • Scaled Strength: The amorphous lithium-polymer layer generates mechanical force in response to an electrical impulse from the wearer's central nervous system; the wearer's thoughts compel a bodysuit equipped with the layer to move their body which in turn drives the suit and any attached armour or accessories. It scales strength fractally rather than by a pre-defined sum. The more excellent the wearer's physical constitution and power, the more potent the physical outputs.
WEAKNESSES
  • Hololink Required: This technology requires a Hololink device to function correctly; without a Hololink device, the layer remains inert, and its' properties cannot be leveraged.
  • Psycho-somatic injuries: There is a two-way street because of its connection to the user's nervous system; damage to the equipped body glove or mounted armour pieces can result in an immune response and the infliction of psycho-somatic injuries with symptoms including but not limited to fatigue, pain and aches that can range from uncomfortable to excruciating, trouble breathing or shortness of breath.
  • Reaction magnitude: All things working together, the synthetic muscle drives the wearer's body to an equal or greater extent to the applied electrical impulse. This can have dramatic consequences for the physiology where the technology user applies excessive mechanical stress to the wearer's body in response to a desired movement, and this causes feedback onto their own body with the capacity for injury depending on their physiology's constitution; as a general rule, Baseline Humans and Near-Humans are not eligible to benefit from this technology as its use is likely to cause severe bodily harm.
DESCRIPTION
The Synthetic Muscle Polymer is a technology designed and manufactured by the Ryk government's State Defence Industries; it is used in vacuum-sealed body gloves where it can connect with the wearer's holo-link device through the spinal port. The Synthetic Muscle Polymer generates a mechanical force from an applied electrical impulse. Electrical stimulation comes from the user's central nervous system when they desire to move, creating a kind of 'thought-to-movement'. The electrical impulse from the spinal cord causes the amorphous polymerised lithium to change its' state of matter, generating a mechanical advantage directly proportional to the user's physical constitution and axon cell density. For baseline Humans and Near-Humans, this phenomenon is overwhelming and almost always, without fail, results in significant bodily injury as the Humans' nervous system tries to compel the suit to make their bodies do things they're incapable of performing safely. The Norr of Homo Sapiens Augeus, however, has a hardy physiology that can safely tolerate the application of this technology.
