- Jack of All Trades: carrying 4 heavy laser cannons and 3 warhead launchers capable of carrying a variable payload of up to 12 warheads total, the T-65XN proves a worthy analog for its ancient predecessor, the XJ-series X-wings, and a flexible weapon capable of fighting everything from capitals and space stations (not alone, of course) to fellow snubfighters and interceptors
- Built to Last: With an updated shielding suite compared to comparable starfighters, The T-65XN is capable of taking quite a bit of punishment for its size, in keeping with the doctrine of protecting pilots and focusing on the quality, rather than the quantity, of a squadron's piloting personnel.
- Master of None: While a formidable enemy for almost any opponent it could find itself face-to-face with, the T-65XN isn't a bomber or interceptor, and will always be outclassed in a given role compared to dedicated and specialized fighters designed for that role, even more so if a given loadout is specialized for one mission or the other.
- Low Squadron Count: The T-65XN was designed to be flown in smaller squadrons compared to most fighters, preferring to use its armament and shields to make up for the difference in numbers.
- Parallax Error: like most X-wing designs, the T-65XN places its laser cannons at the tip of all 4 of its wings. The distance between the pilot and each of the cannons is roughly 2.5 meters on the Y axis and 1.5 meters on the Z Axis, and around 15.24 cm on the X axis. This causes for some serious Parallax error if the cannons are not zeroed in, and because of the complexity and difficulty of maintenance a self-adjusting system would provide (especially for fighters meant to be flown away from full support), the cannons must be zeroed in at a static distance (Normally 250m for Starfighter combat and 1km for ground attack). Only skilled pilots are capable of engaging in combat that's unsuited for a given zeroing distance.
Ari Naldax had been approached multiple times during her mercenary times by industry insiders - especially from the venerable Verpine Slayn and Korpil and Fresian Incom-Freitek - to work on a new snubfighter. However, at first because she was reeling from having lost her homeworld to the Bryn and later because of the transitory nature of being a mercenary squadron, she was never in a position to oblige and offer her help on their new designs. This changed when she was recruited into the GADF's starfighter corps, and finally had a stable enough living and financial situation to dedicate time to continue the long tradition of Officers and Pilots designing new generations of starfighters.
The first offer she accepted was from Incom-Freitek, who were looking to create an updated line of X-wing pattern starfighters, outfitted with the munitions and avionics to allow for a wide variety of mission profiles and capable of operating long stretches without complementary fighter support. This resulted in a modern equivalent to the venerable and legendary XJ-series X-wing, the Incom-Freitek T-65XN, nicknamed the "Wolf-X" by Nemesis squadron in honor of their veterans' and leader's former mercenary squadron, and the lead flight's designation.
Outfitted with Taim & Bak laser cannons and three variable-munitions ordnance launchers capable of being loaded with anything from Proton and Intruder Torpedoes designed to take on capitals to Conner Nets and Concussion missiles made for starfighter combat, the T-65XN's hat is to wear a great many hats, and it's designed to do this well, trading how many can effectively operate together in a squadron for its armament, an upgraded shield generator and countermeasures suite, and a relatively high maneuverability which, while not on par with purpose-built interceptors and ships outfitted with crazy thruster complements, is well on par with comparable snubfighters.
The T-65XN isn't meant for mass-production or front-line duty, but is designed to serve as a versatile and flexible platform for special missions squadrons, dignitary escorts, and squadrons with other duties that require smaller squadron sizes, higher endurance, and that must be prepared for a wide variety of threats. Though imperfect, the T-65XN should serve as a true and worthy spiritual successor to the centuries-old T-65XJ.
