SPECIAL FEATURES
  • Wide Angle Particle Wave: The weapon fires a wide angle blast as opposed to a linear laser
  • Armour Penetration: The weapon has the ability to punch through heavy armour, especially in close range.
  • Lingering Wave Form: The Taurus' energy lingers in the air as it disperses for a few moments, acting as a shield or deployable hazard
  • Primed: Always primed and ready to go, after firing the weapon, the Taurus has a switch which can be engaged to automatically eject its ammunition when its spent.
  • Concealable: The Taurus due to its composition is shielded from detection from sensors.
  • High Quality Components: The weapon boasts quality materials and circuitry which aren't prone to misfire and is able to use the weapon without restraint.
STRENGTHS
  • Wide Angle Particle Wave: The wave emission projects in a 75 degree cone rather than in a single concentrated shot, firing a blast of pent up blaster gas in such high concentrations that it clouds the area directly in front of the user. The wide angle of the weapon makes it difficult to evade entirely making it an incredibly potent weapon at short range and even in CQC.
  • Armour Penetration: Especially in close ranges the Taurus is able to punch holes in Durasteel and titanium, even capable of damaging Starship plating with its blasts, though this effect falls off the further from the weapon it gets.
  • Lingering Wave Form: While the blaster-gas fired from the weapon begins at extremely high velocity its momentum is quickly arrested as it spreads out, the volatile particles and the stretched EM Field which barely contains it lingers in the air for a couple of brief moments before its energy disperses into the air. The miasmic cloud of condensed super-heated plasma is powerful enough to burn like a blaster weapon on contact and disintegrate small objects like small-arms fire giving it a defensive purpose in allowing it to hold a corridor.
  • Primed: The Taurus, due to its small size and pressure loaded frame is a weapon which thrives on surprise and rapid deployment on a split seconds' notice. The weapon pre-primes its deadly payload ready to fire from the moment it's loaded so that it can be rapidly deployed during a combat and lay down some much needed fire.
  • Concealable: The Taurus due to its composition is shielded from detection from sensors, its construction lined up in such a way that rather than simply shield the weapon entirely, it uses a weave to, shielding the energy signatures to disguise the area as a routine part such as a micro-repulsar or other random component, looking far less suspicious to even visual detection.
WEAKNESSES
  • One and Done: The Taurus uses an extraordinary amount of power and energy with its blasts, the power-cell short of being connected to a larger energy source can only handle a half dozen shots before needing to be reloaded or recharged, while the blaster gas canister requires reloading after every shot of the weapon. This, combined with the cost of the high density blaster gas casings make the weapons ammunition a commodity which must be monitored closely.
  • Diminishing Returns: Disruptors have short ranges at the best of times, the Taurus, having a wide angle particle wave makes it shorter still. The weapon is far more effective in close quarters, at maximum effectiveness within ten meters, within ten to twenty meters the weapon is about as effective as a standard blaster weapon. Beyond twenty meters the weapons effects will decline rapidly, becoming less and less effective as distance increases.
  • Ray Shields: As the disruptors payload being an array of overwhelming heat energy, ray shields are universally effective against the Taurus. While a point blank shot into an average shield, may force she shield to break or overload, even a direct hit at that range would likely see the intended victim largely unscathed by the attack.

DESCRIPTION
"New ordinance!" The words rang out within the small barracks to the hails and cheers of the men and women surrounding the man as a black insulated crate was slammed into the ground. The soldiers around it would surround it like prey about to befall the ravening claws of the pack of hungry wolves which they had seem to become at the sight of a new gun, veritably salivating at the thought of a new firearm. As dexterous fingers went to wrap themselves lovingly around the clasp, the foot of the ordinance official would slam down on the roof of the case. "A couple of things first..." The air became immediately anxious, as such required missives normally meant that the items they were about to handle were to be dangerous, potentially to themselves.
"The weapons within this case have a firing arc of 75 degrees and an effective range of 25 meters, with a maximum range of about 35 meters. They are dangerous, and technically designated as an anti material pulse delivery system. It is recommended that it be integrated into your Aegis armour in the mean time. These weapons prime on a hair trigger once they are loaded, so, do not aim them in any direction when loaded unless you intend that thing to no longer exist on this material plane, is that understood?"
The Sir-yes-sir echoed across the barracks, the foot came off and the hands unceremoniously tore open the lid of the box to reveal small emitters which looked as though they could integrate into one of the arms of their armour, while a pack of diatium power cells and concentrated blaster gas shells. They would begin to inspect each of the small modules, poking and prodding as one of them would engage the hair trigger with no ammunition, as the weapon would open, dry-priming as they would inspect the wide angle lens as well as the delivery method in play.
"Are these Disruptors Sir?" One of the soldiers would ask, their voice penetrating the silent concentration of her peers, to looks moving between the ordinance and the officer who would indicate a nod with them, mixed feelings would begin to well up within each of them. Disruptors had a nasty reputation, excessively cruel weapons which were meant to be used for their Ion component against droids and material targets, however they proved uniquely effective against biological targets. The massacre of Lothal came immediately to mind for some, there wasn't a class that didn't learn about that atrocity at one point in their careers. It taught a lesson of what true terror looks like, corruption and abuse of power.
A grim seriousness would wash over the group as they would move to the armour stands at the side of their bunks, one to the left and one to the right holding their Aegis armour ready to be donned or doffed. They would spend the better part of the next hour installing the weapon system into their wrists in relative silence, attempts to break it with a joke or an awkward conversation would be met with minimalist responses, drawing them back into the status quo. Once equipped they would be testing these weapons, they only hoped that the galaxy was ready for them.
On the field, the weapons performed admirably, the soldiers learned to reload them swiftly as time went on and they became familiar. At optimum range the weapons were blowing three meter chunks out of durasteel plates and obliterating the mannequins and droids that had been set up. As the full day of testing came to an end, the men would be laughing and the mood would be far lighter. The wide angle array made the weapon feel less like a cruel weapon, anything hit by this thing would cease to exist in a fraction of an instant, unlike the slow molecular chain reaction of the old worlds disruptors. It was a welcome change. The men and women would be moved into rooms on their own for debrief, answering a questionnaire on the performance of the weapon and offering critiques. Small tweaks were offered, but in the end, the weapon was given an final review.
"8.7 out of ten from the test group sir, no faults or misfires over ten thousand rounds... I think the Taurus is ready for use. "
"Yeah, It'll punch through that like butter..."
