[ + ] The T1 Mainframe is a top-of-the-line quantum supercomputer, capable of tackling even the most daunting computational tasks with incredible speed and ruthless efficiency.
[ + ] The presence of Type S Crystals allows the T1 to be suffused with the power of the Dark Side, improving performance beyond what is normally possible.
[ - ] T1 Mainframes are housed in durasteel storage units, but are otherwise not well protected from any form of serious attack.
DESCRIPTION
The T1 Mainframe is purpose-built and designed by the Sictis Order. In order to run the advanced future-casting formulas hypothesized by Darth Tenebrous, a supercomputer must not only be outlandishly powerful, but capable of Dark Side attunement. The T1 is the first of two necessary steps for the Sictis Order as they attempt to turn theory into practice.
They may also be used as cradles for Artificial Intelligence units, and by extension be used in the maintenance and control of complex infrastructure systems.
Like its cousin, the A-02 Super Processor, the T1 combines quantum computing best-practices with metaheuristic architecture. The final result is predictable: a robust supercomputer capable of resolving any theoretical problems set before it, as well as evolving its own processes to increase efficiency over time.
Unlike the A-02, however, the T1 Mainframe foregoes traditional superconducting architecture in favor of a complex network of intertwined “time crystals.” Time crystals are ions which have been entangled together in an artificial structure. When disturbed, these ions will oscillate, gradually transitioning into a natural rhythm of their own.
“Normal” crystals are the result of atoms moving themselves into preferred arrangements over time. In almost any other instance, this preferred state is one of equilibrium, where nothing moves. For example: the freezing of water particles creating the patterns of snowflakes.
Time crystals are different. Their preferred state is non-equilibrium. Once disturbed, their structure will come to oscillate in a set pattern, forever. If this sounds like a violation of several widely accepted natural laws, that is because it is.
Once created, these time crystals are subject to a complex process referred to as “braiding.” This allows information to be encoded within the movement patterns of individual particles, which produces far more qubits of information than superconducting systems.
In addition to providing more qubits, time crystal-based architecture has reduced the need for large cooling systems. The T1 Mainframe is significantly smaller than other supercomputers, quantum or otherwise.
The T1 was designed by an elite team of Sictis Artificers, composed equally of Givin and Verpine. This has given it a reputation as an esoteric and enigmatic device – very few people can understand the workings of the T1 on the same level as its creators. Even the other Artificers of the Sictis Order have a difficult time with the T1 Mainframe, despite the skill and intuition granted to them through Mechu-Deru.
This led to a number of operational problems, partially solved through the creation of the Amalgam Unit. The memories, experiences, and dispositions of the T1's creators were extracted, cataloged for relevance, and imprinted onto a semi-sapient artificial intelligence unit.
Now, at any location with a T1 Mainframe, there is also a separate console that will connect users to the Amalgam Unit, which can then answer any and all inquiries regarding the device… Sometimes with bitter sarcasm and indignant cruelty, depending on the memories accessed. Very few people within the Sictis Order enjoy working with T1s.
T1 Mainframes can be found only within the Sictis Order's clandestine facilities, though it wouldn't be impossible for other parties to gain their own... For a predictably steep price.
