BIG Z1776
Baboon with a MAAWS
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Built on the sturdy and proven T80 chassis for providing artillery fire for armored formations and keep up with them. Despite the large gun this vehicle is actually a bit lighter than the T80-T's it follows into battle far behind. This vehicle usually can be found in a spread-out or close-in battery of six guns with two T80-LAS Articulated Tracked Logistics Vehicles carrying each SPG's ammunition supply. Two of the SPG's gunners work in tandem with the vehicle crew and ammunition handlers of the ammo carriers to keep a constant supply of ammunition running between the staged ammunition carriers and the SPG itself. These two men use the handles on the protective casings to hoist the shells up to a pivoting shell hoist to the level of the other two gunners and who then remove the shell from its casing, and drop it into the feed tray where the autoloader will ram the shells into the breach with each shot. This can be done quickly with a good crew which possesses the CRAF's C-TER Exoskeleton Rig to assist in lifting these heavy shells over a long period. This vehicle is capable of shoot and scoot tactics, because it lacks to the extensive protective armor of its frontline comrades. Because this vehicle is less complex in regards to its hull assembly it is potentially an attractive option for those in the market for a self-propelled gun, and there are plenty of them in the underground warehouses of the CRAF due to that force's emphasis on artillery power.
However, it is a juicy target for those who can overwhelm its shield and for raiders on sabotage missions the only active defense this vehicle has is its crew-served HOB/F on top of the turret which doesn't have a protective turret to protect that weapon's gunner. But, if the raiders are not careful, they may find that the J-34 Proton Cannon in the main turret is a very dangerous weapon to be looking down the barrel of, because this vehicle, as a last defensive resort, can go into a direct-fire mode, and this is a weapon that peel open some space-going ships.

- This vehicle's communications and computer systems allows it and its crew to transmit precisely what its seeing to anyone and everyone in its data network, allowing for smooth and accurate command and control with all vehicles capable of becoming part of an integrated battery fire mission for more complex firing tactics. This system for the user is as simple as selecting a point on a map and selecting the trajectory for the shell. The fire control system will take care of the rest.
- Gunners use magnetic clamps to move the proton shells.
- Offensive Abilities:
- Basic sensor suite for the driver, can see pretty much around them in either normal or IR (night vision).
- Independent magnetic stabilizers for its main gun and stabilizing arms in the back of the hull and on the sides for completely stabile firing at any angle.
- Defensive Abilities:
- Possesses a digging bulldozer blade on the front of the vehicle controlled by the driver so the vehicle can dig itself into a position
- Main Hull: Layers of high-chromium durasteel, depleted baradium, and heat-resistant carbonite ranging from 200mm Frontal Armor, 100mm Side Armor, and 100mm Rear Armor. Bottom is V-Shaped to deflect blasts from mines and IED's. All weapons systems possess a fire-fighting system to prevent catastrophic magazine detonations, and in the event this cannot be avoided the magazines have blow-out panels that funnel the explosive force outside of the vehicle to protect the hull itself and the crew.
- Crew Cockpit and turret: Made of 180mm titanium and 80mm of heat-resistant carbonite. It also sealed against all biological, radiological, and chemical weapons for crew protection.
- Turret: Possesses a similar armor scheme to the hull, but it is only 1/2 of the hull's thickness, with the rear able to split open for feeding ammo.
- Has the same limited shield abilities of the J-34 gun it has on the vehicle.
- Post-Production Addons/Upgrade Packages: (All are currently used by the Crossroads Republic Armed Forces)
- Detonite-Explosive Reactive Armor Blocks
- Slat Cage
- Active Protection System capable of detecting and defeating most incoming ballistic threats (Exceptions being heavy weapons and very small micromunitions.
- IR Dazzlers to disrupt laser-guided munitions and enemy night vision
- IR and Thermal Masking Smoke Canister Deployer
- IR and Thermal Masking Smoke Generator
- Multispectral Camouflage Netting
- Modular construction, making repairs somewhat easier.
- It is an older design, meaning it is available in large numbers.
- Unaffected by traversing through shield bubbles due to its tracks.
- Very long-ranged gun with full 360 degree field of fire.
- Ammunition elevators aid rapid fire missions.
- Requires trained motor pool personnel to properly keep a fleet of these vehicles running.
- Requires large amounts of time to properly train in the operation of this vehicle and longer to learn how to properly use it in combat.
- Slower than hovercrafts, and cannot traverse over water or thin ice.
- Going top speed makes this vehicle difficult to control in anything but a straight line or long bends on prepared surfaces and is very hard on its transmission.
- Requires a large ammunition train to fire for an extended period.
- Can be clumsy to move through an urban environment due to the long barrel.
- Limited defensive capabilities, relies on the shield of the main gun.
