OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
Technology: Below Galactic Standard. Modern technologies is slowly taking a foothold on Taighean. Modern medicines, sources of light and power, along with stronger forms of steel have been readily accepted by the people of Taighean. While things such as droids and automated tools have been quickly turned down. Although reluctant for most things, some buildings are showing signs of using modern building materials.

- Planetary Features: Taighean is a planet of vast wilderness. Rocky snow capped mountains dominate the northern hemisphere, these rocky moss covered slopes lead down to dense forests of tall pines and oak. Moorlands make up most of the planets equatorial terrain, stretching out in a near endless sea of sage brush, grasses and other low growing plants. Dense bogs surround the cold shallow seas that dot the planet. The cold water of these seas hold a vast abundance of fish and other sea life. Water blown of these seas moves inland in the form of light rain and mist on a daily basis. All this water has made moss one of the most abundant plants on the planet, covering everything from the rocky slopes of the mountains to trees and forest floors.
- Planetary Locations: Armanach is the largest city on the planet and home to the planets ruling family and ambassadors from each ruling territory. The city itself is shaped like a massive tree, towering above the landscape. An ingenious combination of both living plants and the stone foundation that holds it together. Surrounding the city are now newly built landing pads for the planets only spaceport.
- The Dragon Back mountains are the ancestral home of the Trodachen people. High up on these slopes, their ancestors found refuge from larger, now extinct, predators. The Dragon Back mountains are also home to the planets largest flying species of bird. Which uses updrafts rising up from the valleys to keep its large frame airborne as it hunts the mountain cliffs and slopes.
- The Moorlands of Lorai. The largest open space on the planet. Spanning for kilometers across the equator in a massive almost unbroken band. Sage, flowers and shrub brush dominate the landscape, providing food for large herds of grazing animals. Despite its lack of large vegetation, these moorlands contain the most fertile soil on Taighean. Which has turned it into the largest provider of food on the planet. Large herds of cattle are raised here, along with other beasts of burden.
- The dense moss covered forests of Taighean provide a near endless supply of lumber to the villages surrounding them. The forests themselves are never truly named but identified by the closest village or hamlet. Much of these forests have remained unexplored and are home to many large predators, such as packs of wolf like animals that hunt in packs in the dense undergrowth. While large, long necked, herbivorous travel in small herds feeding off the tops of trees.
- Native Species: Trodachen
- Immigrated Species: None
- Population: Sparse. 3 Million
- Demographics: 100% Trodachen
- Primary Language: Trodachi
- Culture: Taighean, at the worst of times, can be a very harsh planet. Cold snaps, famine, fierce predators and rival noble families have carved the Trodachen into a strong and hardy people. A people who love feasts, good drink, tales of grand adventures and the occasional drunken brawl. As loud and boisterous as they may be, they are a well grounded people with deep ties to their families and Royal family. Trodachen live by the saying it takes a village to raise a child. Every member of the family pitches in to help raise the next generation, from elders who tell the oral history of their people and bits of wisdom. To parents who teach the more needed basics of life such as farming, hunting and warfare. Even aunts, uncles, siblings and cousins lend a helping hand. Many Trodachen families are large, some clans stretching to well more than a hundred.
- The Trodachen are a somewhat spiritual people. Believing that many spirits live deep in the untamed wilds of Taighean. They believe that the great ruling spirits reside deep beneath the ground and that the planet resonates with their power. For this reason, Trodachen don't wear shoes, as they believe it brings a stronger connection to the spirits below. Such beliefs have given the Trodachen a great respect for their home planet, treating it with great care and only taking what they need. The largest center for spiritual gathering is in Armanach, housed deep in the cities center.
- Warfare is another important aspect of the Trodachen way of life. From the time a child learns to walk, they begin to learn how to fight. Rigorous daily training and mock battles help hone a child's skills towards being an expert fighter. In the eyes of the Trodachen, an expert fighter isn't the one who kills the most, but rather the one who can defeat many opponents in combat without killing any. Most disputes caused between rival noble families are settled through a series of games involving strength, endurance and cunning, although skirmishes do happen more often than not. Over the years the games became more of a tradition to not only settle tensions between clans, but to strengthen bonds of old allies. The most common game is the traditional wrestling. Both male and female Trodachen have horns on top of their heads, that more often than not arch backward. Traditional wrestling involves both opponents locking horns and then attempting to either toss their opponent to the ground or out of the ring in a true test of strength and endurance. One of the greatest honors bestowed upon the Trodachen is to be selected as a member of the Royal families Honor Guard.
- Trodachen are not all warfare and drinking. They also pride themselves in their craftsmanship of trinkets, furniture and other handmade items. Most Trodachen could spend hours trying to get the perfect details on a piece of work even if that means pushing back the delivery date. The best craftsmen set up shop in Armanach, where there's a higher chance for their goods to be sold offworld. Trodachens aren't found of automated machines or droids, as they see them as a poor way to do a job. Very few if any droids will be found on Taighean.
- Government: Monarchy
- Affiliation: None
- Wealth: Medium. Do to its recent discovery and little contact with the galaxy at large. Taighean has quickly turned into a hotbed for trade for those looking for new and unusual goods to sell across the galaxy.
- Stability: Medium. Small skirmishes exist from time to time between ruling noble families. Many offworlders are safe as Trodachens have no reason to cause them harm.
- Freedom and Oppression: Traighean has a high level of freedom. The people are free to move about as they want as long as they don't break any laws of the ruling noble families. Most clans aren't strict with their laws, except for those that would harm everyone as a whole. Such as stealing, murder, etc..
Historical Information
- The Trodachen people originated in the Dragon Back Mountains. A massive rocky sloped mountain range that covers most of the northern hemisphere. Moss and squat trees fill the valleys and lower slopes where the snow isn't to extreme. These forest filled valleys provided an oasis of safety for the their ancestors, as the forests and plains at the bottom of the mountains where home to many dangerous predators. Unfortunately the oral stories of their ancestors decent from the mountains and eventual settling of the planet was all but lost during the Winter of Bones.
- The Winter of Bones: Around roughly 1930 BBY a great cataclysm engulfed Taighean. A large meteor struck the southern hemisphere with enough force to cast ash and debris high into the atmosphere. Enough debris hung in the atmosphere that it blotted out the sun and cooled the planet, sending Taighean into a small but devastating ice age. Crops failed, livestock died and famine and sicknesses began to spread. Even the wildlife even began to succumb to the storms devastating effects. Vast grazing herds dwindled from lack of food, large predators themselves couldn't find enough meat on the dead to keep themselves full. Soon war broke out between the clans as each sough simple resources just to survive. The Winter of Bones lasted ten years and in that time more than half the population died to either sickness, starvation, cold, war or wild animals. Entire clans and bloodlines were wiped out, along with much of their oral history. Even many large herbivores and predators went extinct during that time.
- The first Monarchy: The summer 1915 BBY saw the formation of the first true monarchy on the planet. In the wake of the Winter of Bones, many tribes and clans banded together for survival. Many of these tribes grew into powerful territories. After several small wars, the noble families of each territory came together and founded the first Monarchy in order to keep order. Lest they fall into the same amount of bloodshed as was seen during the Winter of Bones.
- The Twenty Years War. 150 ABY marked the start of the Twenty Years War. A massive war that encompassed almost every territory on the planet. A war that started near the end of a three year drought that plagued much of the equator of Taighean. Noble families became desperate to feed their people and tensions ran high as the ruling king was slow to resolve the issue. Things finally boiled over as war started between several nobles. The war spread like wildfire as sides were chosen. The next twenty years would see some of the bloodiest warfare since the Winter of Bones. The fighting finally ceased when the Blessed Summer arrived.
- The Blessed Summer: 170 ABY to 173 ABY was not only the end to the Twenty Years War, but also the summer that lasted three seasons. No snow fell for nearly three years and the weather remained mild enough to grow crops year round. An abundance of crops filled every store house in the villages and they still didn't have room for it all. Many Trodachen took it as a sign to officially end the Twenty Years War. Others were just glad to have food they didn't have to fight over.
- First Contact: 673 ABY brought about the ground shattering revelation that the Trodachen weren't alone in the universe. A ship made of steel descend from the heavens and made landfall a short ways outside Armanach. Beings like none the Trodachen had ever seen before exited the ship in large numbers. A man by the name of Kellmat Crieg led these newcomers. He was what his followers called a Sith Lord, a being capable of manipulating the force in powerful ways. The Trodachen were impressed by his abilities and were eager to learn from him. Peaceful relations lasted for only a few months, however, until it was discovered that Kellmat was secretly running experiments on the royal family. Kellmat had been collecting DNA from the children of the ruling family in an effort to create a better soldier, after being impressed by the Trodachens ability in warfare. Enraged, the Trodachen people struck out at Kellmat and his soldiers, inflicting heavy casualties. The Sith Lord knew his forces were fighting a losing battle, but he wasn't leaving empty handed. In a bold move, he managed to kidnap the Queen and two of the royal children before escaping offworld. This was a devastating blow to the Trodachen people.
- Second Contact: Sometime in early 800 ABY, another vessel descended from the skies. The weary Trodachen people approached this small vessel with caution. Stories about the first offworlders to visit were at the forefront of their minds. These offworlders were small in number and claimed to be mere explorers looking to trade. After long negotiations, the traders were allowed to stay. Week after week, the traders returned bringing with them goods from across the galaxy, such as unusual foods, advanced technology and stronger metals. The Trodachen also benefited by trading lumber, trinkets and agricultural goods. Overtime one ship a week turned into several a day. Landing pads went from dirt plots to duracrete platforms. The weariness the Trodachen people had before began to fade as relations have grown stronger. For the past eleven years, Taighean has began to slowly open up to the rest of the galaxy.
