I can feel your heart beat faster (Faster)

Katarine listened, eating her pasta under his brooding gaze. She couldn't help but notice he answered her question without really providing any information about himself. She figured this was second nature by now, as this undercover life meant never give anything away for free. Back before the Clone Wars the agents in the Republic would exchange information about themselves only when they lost at strip poker. You had to beat those suckers at cards just to learn where they were from and it might cost you the shirt off your back. She wondered if the Alliance was the same way. Being an enigma had its advantages out in the field.

"Not so fast Mr. Smith. You haven't told me anything about yourself yet. All I know about you is that you are an SIA agent, totally comfortable taking your shirt off in front of a woman you just met, and used to bang the Grandmaster regularly. Oh and she said you guys parted on good terms."

She smiled daringly at him as she threw this remark out there, wondering if it would make him embarrassed. "What's it going to take to get some answers about you then.... dear husband?" She smirked at him and picked her wine glass up, sitting back in her chair and fixing him with a steady gaze.

Dean’s smirk deepened as he leaned back in his chair, his gray eyes glittering with amusement. “Hold on a second,” he said, raising a hand in mock innocence. “I had my back turned to you, Mrs. Smith. You were the one staring. Hardly my fault if you got an eyeful.”

He grinned, the playful edge to his tone sharpening as he continued. “And as for Valery...” He paused just long enough for dramatic effect, his smirk turning downright wolfish. “Yeah, we did. And if she said we parted on good terms, she’s not wrong.” He winked.

Dean let the moment hang there, letting her reaction simmer before leaning forward slightly, resting his forearms on the table. “But me? You want to know more about me?” His voice dropped a fraction, his tone playful but carrying an air of intrigue. “I’d be a terrible Agent if I just handed out all my intel, don’t you think?”

He tilted his head, his grin widening as he met her gaze. “What’s in it for me?” he asked, his voice low and teasing. “You’ve got to sweeten the deal, dear wife. I’m not exactly the open-book type.”

Dean reached for his wine glass, swirling the liquid as his eyes stayed locked on hers, the challenge clear in his expression.

Katarine smiled genuinely as he became playfully innocent, claiming it wasn't his fault since he turned his back to her and confirming that he and Valery used to hump like bunnies. She laughed, a musical sound when it was genuine like it was now. His tone turned a little more serious as he explained he'd be a horrible agent if he just put all the facts out there at once. She grinned at him and nodded.

"You've got to sweeten the deal, dear wife. I'm not exactly the open-book type."

"I see... so this is a negotiation then?" She folded her arms over her chest and studied him for a moment, her deep green eyes searching his face. They had plenty of time before the work day ended and they could go bug that office and realistically until they could hear what was going on inside they were no closer to building a case against the slime criminal across the way. They may as well use the downtime to have a little fun.

She picked up her glass of wine and drank what was left, hopping for a little liquid courage as the alcohol slipped down her throat. She then got up and returned to the in suite bar and came back with a pack of playing cards, two shot glasses, and some Corellian whiskey. Katarine was a light weight drinker but he didn't know that, so she was acting tough. Plus a little alcohol might unseal those lips of his she hopped.

"We will play cards. If you lose a hand I get to ask you a question, which you have to answer honestly. If i lose hand... well then...name your terms Mr. Smith."

She shuffled the cards and stared at him, a playful glint in her eye. Katarine had spent a lot of her life in the Underworld so she was no stranger to cards. She'd gotten pretty decent at them. Hopefully decent enough to at least get a few answers out of her new partner.

Dean’s smirk widened into a full grin as Katarine returned with the cards, shot glasses, and Corellian whiskey. The playful glint in her eye didn’t go unnoticed, and he leaned back in his chair, resting his forearms casually along the armrests as he watched her shuffle the deck with practiced ease.

“Oh, I like the sound of this,” he said, his voice warm and teasing. He reached for the whiskey bottle and poured them both a shot, the amber liquid glinting in the light.

Dean picked up his shot glass, his stormy gray eyes locking onto hers as he lifted it in a mock toast. “If you lose a hand, you have to answer a question honestly. But if you refuse to answer… you lose a piece of that outfit.” He smirked, his tone carrying a subtle challenge, and a lot of eagerness.

Maybe the alcohol was already controlling his tongue too much - this demand was bold, even for him.

With that, he clinked his glass lightly against hers and downed the shot in one smooth motion, setting the glass down with a sharp clink. The whiskey burned, but in the best way — a familiar warmth spreading through his chest.

“Alright,” he said, leaning forward now, his elbows resting on the table as he gave her a devilish grin. “Let’s see if you’re as good at cards as you are at teasing, Kat. Shuffle up and deal.”

Dean’s confidence radiated as he watched her closely, the tension between them unmistakable but tinged with humor and excitement. This was going to be fun.

Katarine smiled innocently at him when he mentioned teasing, as if she had no idea what he was talking about. Her eyes were alight with an impish fire however as she watched him take a shot of the whiskey she'd brought over. This was certainly the weirdest undercover assignment she had ever been on and part of her did feel a twinge of guilt that they were drinking on the job. Times had certainly changed since the Clone Wars!

"Sounds like we have a deal then."

She took a seat across the table and dealt the cards. She carefully studied her hand, re-ranging a few cards here or there. Finally she smiled at a fairly impressive hand and sat her cards down with a grin. "so Dean where are you from?"

Dean leaned back in his chair, the grin never leaving his face as Katarine laid her cards down and claimed her first victory. He tapped the table lightly with his fingers, shaking his head in mock defeat. "Well played," he admitted, his stormy gray eyes glinting with amusement.

When she asked about his homeworld, he chuckled softly. "Starting with something simple, huh?" he teased, leaning forward to collect the cards for the next hand. He was expecting some wild questions, especially after the demand he made to even play this game. But perhaps she wanted to warn him up a little first.

She'd regret that.

"Alright, fair enough. I'm from Anaxes," he finally answered with a grin. He began shuffling the deck with practiced ease, his tone growing softer for a moment. "Grew up surrounded by the military, discipline, and order. It's a place that shapes you — some say for the better, some say otherwise. Guess I turned out okay, though."

Dean handed her the cards to cut, his smirk returning. "Your turn to shuffle and deal, Mrs. Smith. Let's see if beginner's luck holds out." His gray eyes met hers, the tension and playful challenge between them as sharp as ever.

Her smile was genuine as he talked about growing up surrounded by the military. She could picture him as a little boy, playing soldier with friends. It warmed her heart to think about, or perhaps her heart was warming at the first piece of information she was receiving about her new partner. Katarine did truly want to know who he was.

"I've actually never visited Anaxes. Never had an assignment there but now that i know the men are so charming I'll have to change that." She grinned at him as she accepted the cards and started to shuffle.

She playfully scoffed at his comment about beginners luck. "No luck here. Only skill." She sat down her next hand and raised her eyebrows at him.

"So tell me Mr. Smith... Was Valery your first love?"

Dean squinted at Katarine as she laid down another winning hand, his stormy gray eyes narrowing suspiciously. "Twice in a row?" he muttered, leaning back in his chair with a playful frown. "You must be very skilled." The smirk tugging at the corner of his mouth made it clear he was still competitive, though he did wonder... could the Force be used to cheat at these games?

She wouldn't, right?

Her next question, however, brought his attention squarely back to her, and his expression softened slightly. "Valery?" He let out a soft chuckle, shaking his head. "No, she wasn't my first love. We dated briefly, but it didn't get too far along — though we did have our fun."

Dean's smirk returned, though it didn't quite reach his eyes this time. "Your turn to shuffle," he said, handing her the deck with a playful glint in his gaze. "But let me guess — you're going to make it three for three, aren't you?"

His tone was light, but there was a flicker of curiosity beneath it, his attention fully on her now.

She listened as he described his relationship with Valery, which seemed to just be a casual thing like the Grandmaster had said. She could see the suspicion in his eyes and it made her chuckle. She knew how easy it was to mistrust a Force user at times like these. Katarine was playing fair though and hopefully her luck would hold out.

She took the cards back to deal and shuffled them. "Keep playing like that and this might turn into an interrogation dear husband." She smirked at him and started to deal. When the cards were dealt she realized she did not have a good hand at all this round.

"You might just get lucky after all." She sat her cards down with a grimace at how lousy they were.

Dean's smirk grew into a full-on grin as he laid down his cards, the unmistakable look of victory lighting up his stormy gray eyes. "Well, well," he drawled, leaning back in his chair and crossing his arms. "Looks like luck finally decided to pay me a visit."

His gaze flicked up to Katarine, noting her grimace at her own hand. "Alright, Mrs. Smith," he began, his tone teasing but laced with triumph. "You know the rules. I get to ask you a question, and you have to answer honestly. Unless..." He let the word hang in the air, his grin turning wolfish as he raised a brow, and looked her over.

She knew what would happen if she didn't answer.

Dean leaned forward slightly, resting his elbows on the table, his chin propped on his hands. "So here's my question," he said, his eyes sparkling with mischief. "What's the most embarrassing thing you've ever done on a mission?"

The challenge in his gaze was clear, the playful tension between them crackling as he waited to see how she'd respond. "And remember," he added, his voice dropping into a mockingly serious tone, "I'm no Jedi, but I can tell when someone is lying."

The victory in his eyes was amusing but she felt a twinge of nervousness as he contemplated what his question was going to be. She gave him a lopsided grin as he reminded her of the rules. His question was a thinker though. What was the most embarrassing thing that had happened to her on her assignment? Recently she'd done a striptease with Valery to catch a drug kingpin. Grinding with the Grandmaster was certainly on the list of embarrassing escapades. Of course there were also the incidents when anybody was stupid enough to let her drive. She remembered crashing a speeder into a local cafe one time with a fellow Jedi inside. That had not been a high moment of her day for sure.

She sat back in her chair, her deep green eyes focused as she sifted through the many memories. "Embarrassing... hmmm... " There was that time she had gone undercover in a full Wookie suite and they had to glue hair everywhere. Or the time on Naboo.. teaching James Terran how to use telekinesis. The memory brought a blush to her cheeks and she closed her eyes cursing herself. She knew Dean's stormy gray eyes had caught it and there was no backing out. If a memory was enough to make her blush then it was embarrassing for sure.

"I once taught a padawan how to use telekinesis by removing his swim trunks on Naboo." She opened her eyes and looked at him, her blush deepening and a hint of pain behind those deep green eyes. That had also been the night she'd lost her virginity, but she wasn't sure she could bring herself to say that out loud. She narrowed her eyes at Dean, wondering if he could tell she was holding back. She sized him up for a moment or two and then reached down and slid off a boot and kicked it over by the sofa.

"Don't get cocky. I intend to win this game." She smiled at him and collected the cards for another hand.

Dean's grin widened as he leaned back in his chair, his stormy gray eyes flicking to Katarine's blush and lingering there for just a moment too long. She had answered his question, technically, but the way her gaze faltered and her cheeks flushed told him there was more to the story.

"You know," he started, his voice slow and teasing as he propped his arms on the chair's armrests, "I get the feeling you're not telling me everything. But..." He paused, smirking as she slid off her boot and kicked it away. "I'll let it slide this time. Especially since you're already starting to strip for me, Mrs. Smith."

His tone was playful, his grin wolfish as he reached for the deck of cards and shuffled them again. The way her green eyes narrowed in playful determination only added to the tension crackling between them, and he couldn't help but feel a pang of curiosity about the rest of her story.

"You better watch yourself, though," he added as he dealt the next hand. "I'm keeping score."

They played the next round, Dean focusing hard on his cards, determined to turn the game in his favor. But as the final hands were revealed, he let out a low groan and ran a hand through his hair. She had beaten him again.

"Alright," he said, his smirk returning despite his loss. "I'll admit defeat. What's your question?" His stormy eyes glinted with challenge as he leaned forward, resting his chin on his hand, ready for whatever she threw at him next.

He was a good investigator with deep instincts as he could tell she hadn't admitted all of that story. Even this bit of information told her something about him. He was damn good at his job and that was a good thing. Despite their fooling around this mission might turn out successful.

The wolfish grin on his features was somehow primal and animalistic. It made her knees weak and she was thankful she was sitting down. The way he groaned and ran his fingers through his hair was endearing and she giggled, enjoying her moment of triumph. He admitted his defeat and she grinned, holding his gaze and wondering just how mean she wanted to be.

"Alright Mr. Smith... what is one thing about yourself that you truly do not want me to know?"

Dean leaned back in his chair, his gray eyes narrowing slightly at Katarine's question. A slow grin tugged at his lips as he folded his arms across his chest. "Alright," he drawled, his voice smooth but tinged with a hint of mischief. This wasn't an easy one to bring up, but it did kind of played into what Kat was poking at earlier.

He cleared his throat, glancing down at the cards in his hand before setting them aside. "First time with Valery," he began, his smirk widening as he noticed Katarine's reaction to the opening line, "Was in a hotel room just like this one."

He leaned forward slightly, his elbows resting on his knees, his grin taking on an almost daring edge. "And let's just say… we turned the whole room upside down with how heated it got. So yeah, when we walked in here earlier, I might've known exactly what Valery was trying to set up."

Dean's gray eyes locked onto hers, and for the first time, a faint flush crept up his neck and into his ears. He reached for the deck, shuffling it quickly to distract himself as he drew a new card. His grin softened but never completely disappeared.

"Your move, Mrs. Smith," he said, his tone playful but carrying just enough heat to keep the tension between them alive.

She listened as he admitted what he and Valery had done before and grinned at the way a flush crept up his neck. Winning had its advantages as she got to see him just a little uncomfortable. She could tell that Dean was a man who always liked to be in control and she was pushing at those buttons a little, which made the game even more fun.

She chuckled and shook her head when he brought up Valery. "Yes Valery is a troublemaker for sure. She thinks I don't date enough. I have a feeling she's going to keep sending me on missions with eligible men until something sticks."

This time he started to shuffle and deal the hand and her grin widened to almost indecent level as he played the worst hand of the game. She smirked at him and she placed her own cards on the table.

"You are not a lucky man Mr. Smith." She grinned and sat back in her chair, holding his eyes and teasing him just a little with anticipation. She folded her own arms across her chest and smirked.

"Tell me about the one who broke your heart." She knew every man must have that one woman who got away, or who did them wrong. He looked to be in his early thirties, maybe late twenties so by now he had to have a story or two.

"If you just can't bring yourself to discuss such things I'll offer you the same deal you offered me." She lifted her leg, wiggling her boot free foot, indicating he could lose an item of clothing if he wanted to skip the question.

Yep, Valery was trouble.

Dean tilted his head, his gray eyes narrowing slightly as he studied Katarine across the table. Her smirk was daring, and the teasing glint in her eye was impossible to ignore. He let out a low chuckle, leaning back in his chair and tapping the edge of the table with his fingers.

"Alright, Mrs. Smith," he drawled, his voice smooth but with a playful edge. "Fine. First girlfriend. I was sixteen, and she was… everything to me back then. Young, stupid, and head over heels."

He leaned forward, his stormy gaze softening slightly as he continued. "We were together for five years. I thought I had it all figured out — thought we'd end up married or something. Then, right before my twenty-first birthday, she decided she needed something... different. Left me in the dust."

Dean shrugged, his grin returning but softer now. "It hurt like hell, but it taught me a thing or two. People change, and sometimes... it's for the better." His grin sharpened as his eyes locked onto hers. "But you're not getting a boot off me, Kat. Not a chance." He lifted a brow, the playful challenge clear in his expression.

Grabbing the cards, Dean shuffled them with practiced ease and handed her the deck to cut. "Your deal," he said, smirking as he leaned back in his chair. "Let's see if you can keep that streak going, or if luck's about to turn my way."

The tension crackled between them, the playful banter and challenge making the game all the more thrilling. Dean's focus stayed sharp, but there was no denying the fun they were both having.

His story told her a thing or two about him. First, he wasn't opposed to the idea of marriage, or at least at one time he hadn't been, second he was at least twenty one, judging older though based on how he seemed to be over this particular woman, and third he was strong willed and stubborn in his adamant announcement that she would not get his boot off. Katarine took that as a challenge and was determined to get that boot off his foot now.

"Oh we will see about that Dean."

She shuffled the cards and they played their hands. Kat's eyes widened as he played a near perfect hand. Her own wasn't the worst of the game but it certainly wouldn't beat what he had.

"Alright I'm ready."

She sat back in her chair and folded her arms, studying him and waiting for his question.

Dean's smirk turned downright devilish as he leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table and lacing his fingers together. His stormy gray eyes locked onto Katarine, and he tilted his head slightly, studying her with a mix of amusement and intrigue.

"Alright, Mrs. Smith," he began, his voice low and teasing, "Here's one for you." He paused for dramatic effect, letting the tension build between them before delivering the question.

"What's the wildest fantasy you have?"

He raised an eyebrow, his grin widening at the flicker of surprise in her expression. "And before you think about dodging," he added, leaning back casually in his chair, "Remember the rules. You either spill, or..." His gaze flicked pointedly toward her remaining boot, the playful challenge clear in his tone.

Dean's grin stayed firmly in place as he watched her, the tension crackling between them like a live wire. He didn't care whether she answered or not — either way, he was having far too much fun with this game.

Maybe it was the booze? No, there was something genuinely fun about her.

Her eyes widened in surprise at his bold question. She'd lived most of her life before the Clone Wars when Jedi were forbidden to have any attachments, let alone wild fantasies. She was a repressed good Jedi who had only broken the Jedi Code once in her life and paid dearly for it. She wasn't about to admit to him the thoughts that flickered deep at night, thoughts about dominance and reluctance and forceful play. She could barely admit them to herself!

She narrowed her eyes at him playfully and slid her other boot off, kicking it over by the sofa with her other one.

"You are loving this aren't you?" She picked up the cards and started to shuffle, hopping her next hand was better than the last one. When she saw what she had in her hand she raised her eyebrows and smiled, laying the hand down with a flourish.

"Now THAT is luck."
