- Trenchant: The edge of the blade will, like most Sith swords, due to the altered molecular structure of the materials that composed the blade during the forging process, retain a heightened level of sharpness in perpetuity that goes beyond traditionally forged blades in regards to the quality of its edge.
- Thunderous Talon: The Talon of Typhojem was forged in an intricate process of inlaying an obisidian kyber crystal at the center of the blade just above the hilt. This kyber crystal was marked with Sith runes during this process, along the interior of the crystal through vitrography accomplished with Sith alchemy, which allows the wielder of the blade to draw on the dark side of the force to channel sith lightning through the blade of the sword. This lightning, black with a red hue in a similar manner to the color the obsidian crystal imparts on lightsaber blades, will gather along the blade of the sword and discharge into whatever it comes in contact with, be it the ground, a person, or another blade. The power of this lightning is equal to the degree of power Vesta, at the time of the blade's forging, could muster in producing their own force lightning. The blade still retains the normal ability to act like a lightning rod that other Sith swords generally have.
- Left-Handed God: Taking inspiration from the head of the ancient Sith pantheon, Typhojem, the ornate guard of the blade is covered in small swirling runes which act to manipulate ambient force energy. Using notes left behind by the late Darth Alekto/Braith Achlys, Vesta's mother, Vesta reversed the process Braith took in the Fate's Embrace and other similar creations to instead siphon light sided energies rather than dark, effectively an opposite to the scepter of Marka Ragnos of legend, and convert it into the dark side of the force to increase the presence of the blade in the dark side of the force in a manner similar to the dark side power named for its ability to taint objects with the dark side of the force. As the dark presence of the blade grows so, too, does the corrupting influence of it and the one who wields it, tempting others through the force in a personal range to fall to the dark side.
- Mirrored Edge: Like with most Sith swords, the Talon of Typhojem can contend with lightsabers and reflect blaster bolts, as well as light-based weaponry.
- Traditional Sith Sword: The edge of the blade will never lose its enhanced edge and become dull and can withstand contact with lightsabers as well as reflect blaster bolts and light-based weaponry.
- Lightning Discharge: The blade of the sword can generate force lightning along its edge to be discharged into a singular point of contact to devastating effect with the same power of its creator, Vesta Zambrano.
- Tainted: The blade is tainted with the dark side of the force to such a degree that the dark side radiates from the sword and can cause sensations of pain in those connected to the light-side of the force as well as can compel those who have not yet given into the dark side to do so, the effects of which increase as the blade's presence in the dark side does.
- Aberration: Ambient light side energies are converted into the dark side within the blade, meaning that the use of the blade in locations especially steeped in the light side of the force actually increase the presence of the dark side of the force in the sword in a proportionate manner while reducing the surrounding area's presence in the light side of the force.
- Heavy: The process of forging a Sith Sword involves the addition of materials which make the sword heavier, and the Talon of Typhojem is no different. It is thus more difficult for the wielder of the blade to make efficient use of the sword's ability to reflect blasters and other ranged weapons when under sustained fire, as well as tires out the wielder somewhat faster than a normal sword of the same length.
- Force Light: Ever the bane of objects and beings created through alchemy, the Talon of Typhojem is capable of being damaged or destroyed through a sufficiently powerful exposure to the abilities known as Force Light and Wall of Light over a prolonged period of time.
- Presence: While the corrupting influence of the dark side of the force is a theoretical boon, the presence of the dark side in the force in the sword is so great that it is impossible to conceal or mask it from others - even those without the ability to sense through the force will easily notice the utter wrongness of the blade.
- Evil is: Even the wielder of the blade is not safe from the corrupting pull of the blade, which influences its wielder into more impulsive decisions and cruel acts through prolonged contact or close proximity with the blade.
- Ysalamir: Ysalamir can negate the ability for the sword to call upon the power of the force, temporarily rendering its force-related ability inert until it has left the general vicinity of the ysalamir field. Being wrapped by nullification resin may also dampen or entirely prevent the tainting ability of the blade.
As with all Sith Lords, Vesta desired a creation, as well as a weapon, of her own making and sought to test the limitations of her abilities in Sith alchemy. Taking advantage of this project to expand her skill in the art, Vesta drew on old notes left behind by her late mother, known by some as Braith Achlys and others as Darth Alekto, and other sith manuscripts to create something more or less unique and personal to the Shi'ido. The weapon turns a process created by her mother on its head in order to make the weapon a true tool of the dark side, while not straying too far from the standard Sith Sword aside from clever nuances and the ability of the blade to generate its own force lightning through the inscribed kyber crystal inlaid within the sword.
