STANDARD FEATURES
The Tannhauser features all standard systems for a good cargo vessel, including:
- Multiple means of securing loose/contained cargo
- Redundant inertial dampeners
- Professional-grade navicomputer (MVSE Mynock system)
- Threat detection sensors
- Wide range of life-support settings and safeguards (MVSE Chrysalis system)
- Long-range, low-bandwidth subspace comm transceiver
- Basic medical bay
- Spacious hallways and cargo bays
- External cargo container mounts
- Modular bridge/cockpit (MVSE Cornerstone system)
ADVANCED SYSTEMS
None of note, though individual ships can accept a wide range of customized components.
STRENGTHS
- Faster than just about anything in the sky apart from a starfighter or a custom light freighter.
- Much room for cargo and internal customization. A Tannhauser can easily serve as a home, a base of operations, a Q-ship, a tanker, a dropship, a fire ship, etc.
WEAKNESSES
- Basic, unimpressive armament. Some owners detach the guns entirely and use the modular mounts for utility attachments like better tractor beams or tow apparatus.
- Basic, unimpressive shields for a vessel of its size. A few starfighters can harass or cripple a Tannhauser with relative ease.
DESCRIPTION
The Tannhauser is a fast, high-capacity, reconfigurable civilian freighter. Deeply unsuitable for combat, it's still a useful vessel in a wide variety of scenarios. Gallofree Transports began producing the Tannhauser around two decades ago. Within the last few years, GT upgraded the Tannhauser using newer Merrill-Valkner Systems Engineering (MVSE) components shipped from the Outer Rim. This was probably not a wise decision -- the Rim is always in flux, and MVSE is no longer a rising star -- but for now, plenty of Tannhausers have the MVSE gear. Some GT ship designers, including Jerec Asyr, have played a reluctant role in the Tannhauser modernization project, and have begun looking for new component sources -- either for future projects, or for an upgraded Tannhauser variant.
