SPECIAL FEATURES
Strengths:
  • Speed and Maneuverability: Unlike previous iterations of the Basilisk war droids, the Tbarsr, or Swarm-Class Basilisk war droid has much better maneuverability. Designed to be primarily used as a means of transportation and strafing infantry targets. They move about as well as your average starfighter in the air
  • Mandalorian Trade Secret: Throughout the ages tales of the bond between a Mandalorian and their War Droid have been passed down from generation to generation. Nobody knows what they do, but the Heuristic processor that Mandalorians use in the production of their War Droids' droid brain somehow makes them almost sentient allowing for incredible bouts of bravery, maneuverability, and sacrifice when their rider's life is on the line.
  • Bombs Away: Within the abdomen there is a drop bay where a myriad of explosives can be stored. It is about big enough to hold one proton bomb, but the Mandalorians have seen it more effective to fill the cavity with thermal imploders to drop down on their enemies from above.
  • Drop Pod Tech: Like most Mandalorian Drop Pods, the Swarm-Class Bes'uliik can fall straight through planetary particle shields.
Weaknesses:
  • Limited Shielding: While its Mandalorian Steel armor plating provides an average amount of damage protection, the lack of true particle or ray shielding makes it more vulnerable to high caliber slugthrowers and blaster weapons.
  • Firepower: While its payload might be great for small infantry targets, the Swarm-class is completely outclassed by starfighters in a dogfight.
  • Lumbering Beast: Similarly to its cousins, walking on the ground is incredibly difficult and slow for this. Coupled with its lack of energy or military particle shields make these mechanical beasts big targets when on the ground.
DESCRIPTION
One of MandalMotors first droids in nearly a decade, the Tbarsr-Class Besu'liik was a concentrated effort by MandalMotors and MandalTech to give Mia Monroe a slight edge in the planetary civil war between Ra Viszla's Deathwatch and Mia's faction of Mandalorians. While both parties wished to rebuild Mandalore, many flocked to Ra despite his questionable return due to the fact that the later had been the cause of many Mandalorian deaths. Feeling something off about Ra's return, previous Mand'alor and MandalMotors shipwright Gilamar Skirata decided to focus MandalMotors' efforts on constructing a production model of the prototype droid they were constructing prior to the second great Mandalorian Excision.

Designed for the mostly planet-based battles Gilamar predicted, the Tbarsr, or Swarm-Class besu'liik, excel at atmospheric combat, outclassing many air speeders in aerial combat. Able to be deployed in large numbers due to their relatively small size, they overwhelm infantry without the need for complex piloting skills required for riding true Besu'liik or even a starfighter. Able to be connected directly to a Mandalorian's helmet systems, the droid will generally look in the same direction their rider is when idle or when direct control is enabled. Equipped with a classic weapon among almost all classes of Besu'liik, the Swarm-class' shockwave generator rods are the primary weapons for the droid. Foregoing a proper warhead deployment and targeting system, instead the Swarm-class holds a crude, lever activated drop bay in its abdomen. While it is large enough to hold a proton bomb, without a targeting system the Mandalorians have found it more useful to fill it with large amounts of explosives such as thermal imploders, thermal detonattors, and other explosives to rain down death on their, usually, squishy targets.

All in all, the Swarm-class is a quick and dirty stripped down version of a true Besu'liik. However with the art of riding the beasts exclusive to few clans and soldiers, many of them being killed in the Great Burning, the need for a similar mount in the coming war was obvious. Easier to ride and almost as deadly it serves as an adequate substitute for young and new riders. Also of note, the Swarm-Class is equipped with the same technology found in many Mandalorian drop pods, allowing it to re-enter atmospheres as well as penetrate particle shields, allowing for swarms of these to fall from orbit and through planetary shields.

So, looking over this thing, you've got some strengths that you seem to have overlooked when writing up the strengths section. We'll take a look and see how it turns out.

First off, you've got a lot of sensor tech listed under special features. That probably deserves a strength entry.

That's a clever way of saying it's good against infantry. Please add the part about infantry to the strengths. Also, you've got starfighter laser cannons, bomb bays, a sensor suite to rival just about anything, and those shock rod generators, plus the maneuverability of one. Let's just go ahead and omit this line altogether.

Gilamar Skirata said:
Mounted on its shoulders, on either side of the cockpit are starfighter-class laser cannons, easily able to punch through the armor of most beskar'gam with a direct shot.
So, that's not going to happen. You can keep the cannons, but please omit the part about punching through beskar'gam. Also, the fact that you've got starfighter laser cannons on this thing is probably something that should go on the strengths part.

This is also a strength.

So, depending on how you toss the other stuff in, you're looking at an additional 3-5 strengths, on top of the ones you already have, and you're going to have to drop a weakness. As such, before this can proceed, you'll need to balance that out. I'll leave the how up to you, but it needs to be real, tangible things that affect how this thing will function in combat.

Which line? Also being good against infantry isn't really a strength considering ANY flying machine with guns is going to be good against infantry. That's like saying a sword can cut.

I think there is some confusion here. Beskar'gam is personal armor. A single person wearing beskar'gam isn't going to take a hit from a laser canon, which is different than a blaster. Lasers are starship grade weapons, no amount of armor save a mech are going to even take a hit from it, even unshielded starfighters go down in two or three hits. A blaster is a personal weapon, which beskar'gam CAN take a hit from with little to no damage.

You still have yet to address the sensor capabilities in the strengths section.

The part about being able to stand up starfighters. It has equivalent maneuverability and weaponry to a starfighter. The armor might be light, perhaps, but there are several starfighter designs that feature little to no armor, so that's not really a problem. And being especially effective against infantry is a strength. It will need to be listed as such.

I get that this is a higher grade of weapon than your average blaster, but submissions that specifically mention being able to penetrate restricted materials are very rarely approved, and only with the highest scrutiny. Even then, the damage done is still entirely up to the writer taking it. If you wish this submission to be approved, you will have to remove this line.

Its not "especially" effective against infantry against infantry.

These sensors are standard in advanced combat droids and flying things that are piloted in SW. The only reason they are listed is because the submission would be boring to look at otherwise.

Beskar'gam is not a restricted material. It is a name for a kind of armor that SOMETIMES uses a restricted material. But if it appeases you I have removed the line.

I have reservations about this being submitted in the technology forum. From the Basilisk War Droid article on wookieepedia, and from every source material it is used in, the Basilisk war droids were treated and used in roles that were more akin to gunships than "true" droids. They are piloted and used as a means of transportation and as a vehicle more than they are used as completely individual droids, their intended use to be rode on and used as one would a droid tank than an actual droid that can and is intended to primarily act on its own.

So we have two options: We can move this to the vehicle section of the factory and modify the submission to fit with the template that will most accurately portray how this will be primarily used in role-play, or we can have the submission modified so that it is to be utilized primarily as a droid.

How do you mean modified? Considering they can be used without a rider and that there have been several of these types of droids on the board over the years it would make more sense to leave it as is. I don't want you to over-complicate them. At their core they are and have been used as droid companions and through the board's history have taken more of an active role in ground combat than space or even anti-starfighter combat.

By modified I mean use the vehicle template, which will come into play by moving this to the vehicle section of the factory - as the most recent basilisk war droid you've used as a primary source did. Regarding modification to being primarily used as a standalone droid, not intended to be solely used or primarily used as a vehicle, the submission should reflect a droid which will be acting on its own, not a gunship that is being submitted under the droid template.

If you want this to be judged as a simple droid submission, please go through and remove the majority of the submission which refers to its use for boarding, air superiority, and so on, when used as a vehicle. If you want this to be judged as the last basilisk war droid, which you are using as a primary source, we will move this to the vehicle section of the factory and you can add the vehicle ratings to this template. Just because a basilisk war droid contains a droid brain does not mean it is not a vehicle - droid tanks, droid walkers, and other automated units are submitted as vehicles, just as basilisk war droids have been submitted as in the past.

If we move this to the vehicle section the only changes I will need are vehicle ratings added to this. If we keep this as a droid I will need the concept of this submission moved away from its current intended role as a vehicle.

Gilamar Skirata said:
Weak Armor: Unlike other classes of Basilisk war droids the Swarm-class doesn't have the large, armored bodies that its cousins have, leaving the rider more vulnerable to starfighter and small arms fire. The armor also isn't as strong making its resistance to different types of damage lower than a typical Basilisk war droid.

Gilamar Skirata said:
Defenses: High
I am not seeing a correlation between the rating you have for defenses and the weakness you have listed regarding its armor and lesser resistance to damage, including small arms fire. The defenses rating is generally in reference to shields, armor, hull integrity - stuff that regulates how well a vehicle or, when used in the starship template, a starship can take damage. If this is strictly referring to not being made of beskar, I will need the weakness removed because it isn't actually a weakness to not be made of one of the most durable materials in the galaxy. A valid rating for lowered defenses to be utilized as a weakness would be low and below, while nuanced approaches (such as a weakness stating that it is lacking shielding, or one stating it is especially vulnerable to specific kinds of damage that aren't themselves already something most things are not capable of resisting) are acceptable regardless of the rating.

More or less, you can lower your defenses rating to justify the weakness, or you can replace the weakness with a more nuanced approach, such as one of the examples I made above.
