Teach me to Fight

At it's most basic, the idea of RP fighting is that you and your partner take turns throwing attacks at each other and receiving hits in such a way as it doesn't kill your character. The first character to run out of stamina for a fight, (or die,) loses.

Now. Here's some basic tips that I find have helped me over the years,
  • Pm your partner before the fight and ask them, what do you want from this fight? This is very helpful as they will always give you their perspective on fighting. I've gotten answers like; I just want to do something wild, I just want to try out my new gun, or I need to have my character tempted by the dark side. So, this can help you see what your partner is looking for in a good solid PewPew
  • If your partner believes that you are having fun, they will also want to have fun too.
  • Ignore peer pressure and anxiety about death. I can't tell you how many people I've Rp'd with who believed they had the right to kill my characters. I've seen hundreds of reasons why "they are right" and "I am wrong". None of which have any bearing on the rule: Only you can kill your characters. Even if somebody writes your character into a corner with no way out? (Which is not a real thing btw.) ...Just remember. They are welcome to take the win. But they can never kill your character. So be fearless.
  • Be self-aware of your emotions while writing a fight. If you are frustrated, angry, and indignant while writing your posts? You've already lost the spirit of good collaborative Rp. And probably the fight too.
  • You don't have to write out a withdrawal. You can drop from a fight just by not posting. After 48 hours your partner will simply move on. Leaving your character both alive and their fate, open ended.
