GENERAL INFORMATION
Unit Name: Team Mirage.
Affiliation: Archangel Research and Design, Iron Fist Consortium, Revenant Industries, Typhos Clone Family,
Agent Helga, Enyo.
Classification: Special forces.
Description: Enyo's relationship with droids is an ambiguous one. She was created by a cabal of manipulative HRDs who desired to wipe out all organic life and sought to use her as a living weapon. When she rebelled, they took the drastic step of remaking her in their image. Today she is stuck in limbo, not quite droid, but also far from an organic being. She believes droids must be controlled, but also regards mechanical beings as superior to flesh and blood ones. Due to her upbringing and peculiar nature, she finds it difficult to relate to many organics.

As a result, most of her minions tend to be cyborgs or droids. It helps that she is extremely proficient in mechu-deru. Machines feel no pain or fear, do not tire, complain about working overhours or receiving orders that violate codes of conduct. One also does not need to pay them. All they require are maintenance, software and hardware upgrades. This makes them ideal servitors for a Lawful Evil warlord. Rather than deploy hordes of simple-minded automatons, Archangel favours small elite groups of droids that can think and show initiative. Team Mirage is one of the mechanical assets at Enyo's disposal. It is a small team composed solely of four Malediction HRDs. Mirage is not a frontline combat unit, but designed for special operations. Being HRDs they can store vast amounts of data, process and analyse it at a rapid pace. They also learn from experience.

Generally its deployment can take two forms. Mirage can be utilised for what could be considered to be classical commando droid missions: Infiltration, sabotage, reconnaissance, intelligence gathering, raids, false flag attacks, abductions and assassinations. However, its members can also provide direction and support to allied forces. This can take the form of training guerillas or militias, supervising logistics, interrogating high-value prisoners or providing advice to allied officers. Naturally they can also engage in combat. However, it would be a waste to utilise them in the manner of common battle droids.

They make great commandos though. Enyo has trained them in lightsabre combat. They have become proficient in the use of these powerful weapons, though their lack of Force affinity means they cannot utilise them to their full potential. Enyo considered rectifying this by implanting Force-Sensitive Shards into their droid bodies. She ultimately abandoned this idea because the sentient crystals would have been more difficult to control. After all, she had briefly been an ally of the Contingency, before turning on them after discovering the true nature of Onyx' plans. Thus the Mirages remain 'pure' machines, each of them controlled by a sophisticated droid brain, which is created by processing an organic template, as is the case with all Archangel HRDs. Nonetheless, their skill makes them dangerous adversaries in melee, even for Force-users.

The team is assigned to Archangel's special operations division and receives its missions from high-up. Aside from Enyo herself,
Alexia Zarides is the only clone allowed to give them orders. The 'brood mother' of the clones likes to keep a tight lock on her assets, after all. Johanna Tyrone and Charlotte sometimes work alongside them on covert operations. The organic templates of Mirage Squad already worked together in their previous lives, as they formed a One Sith kill team. The fact that they were a team in life has carried over to their unlife. It makes them extremely well-coordinated. Though they are machines now, the Mirages do feel a certain degree of attachment to one other and some of their organic quirks have carried over. However, they do not feel concern for beings outside of their group. Enyo is their controller; others are threats or assets.

The members of the team are designated Wulfgar, Thoric, Helga and Gulnir. These are not their birth names or designations Archangel gave them. Instead they received these names from their late Sith Master. Helgar has been the leader of the team since inception. She is the daughter of Darth Reinheit. Her father considered her a disappointment because he wanted a Force-Sensitive son. However, she served some glorious purpose by being conditioned and turned into a Sith supersoldier, so he drilled her into being his enforcer and subjected her to experiments. It is probably not particularly surprising that she shot him when he decided that it was their duty to go down with the sinking ship. She is the leader of the team.

Wulfgar is a former Republic soldier who defected in the early stages of the One Sith-Republic War. He deemed the Republic weak because it was losing, whereas the Sith represented strength and 'respected warriors'. Bribes also helped sway him. So he sold information and betrayed his oath. He probably did not expect the turn his life took. Thoric was orphan who grew up in the slums of Lower Coruscant, becoming a criminal. This shaped him into a hard, tough man. He was 'volunteered' for the programme as part of an initiative to clean up the streets, partly due to his skill as a slicer. Finally, Gulnir was a Sith stormtrooper who was inducted into the programme due to his skill and bravery in the field. Reinheit considered him a model specimen due to his strength and physique.

The members of the team have a pretty big disdain for Force-Users; something Archangel emphasised but which was already there. Since they had to work their way up in a system where they were looked down on, they use any opportunity they have to get back at 'the great and good', be it Jedi, Sith or other. Due to the nature of their work and the master they served, the members of Team Mirage were always pretty ruthless, so Archangel did not need to emphasise that much. They are now pitiless killers, thinking nothing of using whatever methods necessary to achieve their missions.

Combat Function: The unit is composed of four Malediction HRDs. These are highly advanced Humanoid Replica Droids. They are extremely skilled infiltrators, assassins and killers. Their sophisticated programming enables them to operate alone or as a team and learn from experience. Due to the use of Pyronium circuitry, Malediction Droid are able to absorb ion, electrical and EMP discharges. Indeed, the attacks that would normally harm the machine empower it. This is because the energy is absorbed by the Pyronium and subsequently diverted to specialised converters, to feed its hardware and software applications.

They are extremely strong, fast and durable. They feel no pain or remorse and will continue to operate unless destroyed. Being HRDs, they excel at infiltration and have the ability to mimic voices, blend into social situations and simulate organic behaviour, including emotion. Nonetheless, while their mimicry is near-flawless, HRDs are not infallible. Anyone able to detect their weight will find it off, whilst someone able to do a deep scan will notice oddities. Moreover, a perceptive mentalist or empath could sense that something is off as the machine beneath is not truly living and lacks internal emotion. This would require focus though. It is easier to use mental powers to detect that something is not right in one-on-one interactions instead of while the HRD is in the midst of a crowd. Damage to their organic covering will reveal their true nature.

The droids possess a good selection of high-tech weapons, which allows them to adapt to most combat situations. They also have an extensive understanding of combat tactics, logistics, interrogation and a knack for stealth. However, their Pyronium circuits are not invulnerable. Extremely powerful ion or EMP blasts can still have an effect. Heavy blaster salvoes, lightsabres and explosions can also deactivate, damage or destroy the droids. Moreover, the unit is extremely small. It is meant for special operations, not battles, especially on its lonesome. It would be self-defeating to have the Mirages death charge entrenched fortifications or large enemy forces. In such a scenario they would be more likely to be overwhelmed and destroyed. They are a surgical instrument, not a hammer or a broadsword. They are not meant to take on tank platoons or any 'heavy' combat force. They are a fast, mobile infantry force of elite droids, and thus vulnerable to such obstacles. They only have very limited access to heavy weapons. This is an issue when confronted with heavy armour or aircraft, especially in the open. In such a situation they would be advised to evade contact. They sacrifice raw firepower for mobility and stealth.

The HRDs have received training from Enyo in the use of a lightsabre; training which has been added to their databanks. They prefer to use crossguard lightsabres as they offer better hand protection than conventional ones. Though their weight and lack of the Force prevents them easily blocking blaster bolts or doing acrobatics, they are capable duellists and can fight without tiring. However, they cannot use lightsabre as well as even an Apprentice when it comes to blocking blaster bolts, as they lack Force precognition. They might detect and calculate the path of an enemy shot but deflecting and especially reflecting is less easy. HRDs are extremely fast and have excellent reflexes, but the weight of their mechanical endoskeletons prevents them from performing intense acrobatics. Depending on the opponent and terrain, this can be disadvantageous.

They do best with lightsabre forms that are similar to conventional sword fighting, such as Shii-Cho, Makashi and Djem So. Their excellent coordination also makes them good at Jar'Kai. The fact that HRDs do not tire makes them good at utilising Soresu in melee combat, as they do not face the risk of exhausting themselves and can strike when an opponent is tired or has made a mistake. However, they have the aforementioned difficulty with defending themselves against blaster salvoes, especially if confronted by multiple opponents. They cannot use Form VII because they have no dark emotions - or emotions in general - to tap into.

Strengths:

  • Elite special forces operators. They are also trained to use lightsabres.
  • Composed of Malediction HRDs. These are extremely strong, intelligent and resilient. Moreover, their Pyronium circuits protect them against the usual bane of machines - EMP, ion and electricity. Indeed, the attacks that would normally hurt a machine in fact empower it.
Weaknesses:
  • Extremely small unit. It is composed of only four operatives.
  • Surgical instrument, not a hammer or broadsword. Ill-suited for protracted combat or taking on heavy armour. They are a covert ops unit, not frontline assault troops.
  • While the durasteel skeleton is very resistant to damage, their organic overlay is more vulnerable. In an infiltration situation, damage to it will easily break their cover, as it will expose the metal beneath their synthskin.
Historical Information:

Team Mirage is one of the newer additions to Enyo's 'collection' of cybernetic death dealers, Shards and assassin droids. Enyo is always eager acquire more minions who can do her bidding and further her goals. Regardless, before Team Mirage entered into the services of Archangel and later Enyo, it served the One Sith Empire as part of its war machine. In those days, the Sith had returned with a vengeance after seemingly returning to the shadows following the complete collapse of the Sith Empire.
After seizing Coruscant in a surprise attack, they went on a victorious rampage across the Core Worlds, prevailing in battles against the Galactic Republic, the Mandalorian Clans and the Omega Protectorate. Sith and Imperials flocked to their banner, eager to gain their share of the spoils.

One of them was Darth Reinheit, a powerful Sith Master. He was a ruthless Social Darwinist, believing that the Galaxy belonged to those who commanded the Force and not to those who let it command them. According to him, equality was a lie, for nothing in nature was equal. Only the strong survived and thrived in nature. In his opinion, the current state of the Galaxy was wrong not only because it was disorderly, but because it allowed the weak to flourish, leading to a 'regime of inferiors'. Reinheit believed the old Sith Empire had lost its way, becoming corrupt and weak.

This belief turned into an obsession and so he initiated an eugenics programme to condition a superior human 'master race'. According to him, this programme would create a new generation of leaders and warriors who had been bred for their roles and would be able to crush those who clung to the grand delusion of democracy. Some of those experimented on were Imperial veterans, others were POWs or orphans from the lower levels of Coruscant. In the Sith Lord's twisted imagination, the people in the last two categories owed him a debt of gratitude because he was 'saving' them from their degenerate environments. On the one hand the Sith Lord held the poor in contempt, but on the other he regarded them as proof of his beliefs because life in the slums was defined by brutal natural selection.

Many of those who were surgically enhanced and heavily augmented to perform “Beyond Human” capabilities died or were crippled by the experiments. It did not help that the Sith Lord believed that duels to the death were a good way of 'weeding out the weak'. The loss of potential soldiers did not seem overly problematic to him. Those that made it were heavily indoctrinated to uphold the values of the Sith in general and their master in particular.

Team Mirage was one of the products of this programme. Much to Reinheit's disappointment, attempts to give them artificial Force-Sensitivity through Midichlorian experiments failed. The experimental procedures had also turned them sterile. He decided to utilise the members of the team as black ops operatives. Over the next few years, the Mirages performed covert operations for the Sith. Their missions included assassinations, abductions, bombings, industrial espionage and false flag attacks. They helped the Sith eliminate rebel cells and hunt down Jedi. Sometimes they performed terrorist attacks while in the guise of rebels or nations hostile to the One Sith in order to help discredit them. However, as time passed their patron grew increasingly irrational and paranoid, directing them to target Imperials he deemed 'impure' and conduct scorched earth missions.

This only intensified when the Galactic Alliance succeeded in its campaign to take Coruscant, herading the end of the One Sith Empire. Team Mirage and their patron joined the Rogue Sith, a group composed of Sith and their retainers who refused to capitulate. They retreated to the remote world of Castameer, where they built a superweapon called the Omega. In the best tradition of fanatics, they decided that if they could not have the Galaxy, no one else would. Team Mirage put its skills to good use by helping acquire crucial materiels for the superweapon and plugging leaks. However, inevitably the main powers of the Galaxy became aware of the project and launched an assault on Castameer.

The Rogue Sith had hoped their enemies would come to them for a final showdown. Unfortunately for them, the fleets of the various powers decided to enter an alliance of convenience instead of slaughtering each other. A fierce battle was fought on the ground, and then enemy forces boarded the Omega. Team Mirage was one of the units drawn into battle. With all hands on deck needed, they were put in a conventional infantry role. They fought bravely, battling a Firemane task force before being forced to fall back.

However, they had grown disillusioned with their superiors. The space battle was going ill, and when the Grand Admiral ordered the Omega's super laser to commit full power to the space battle, he was executed by Kith Verloren, the leader of the Sith sect. Reinheit ordered his minions to fight to the death, threatening them with death and worse if they did not comply. Team Mirage decided they had enough and turned on him. Unfortunately for the would-be Sith superman, sorcerous powers did not make him immune to sonic weapons or bolters. Omega was dying, and so they did the logical thing and fled after looting a bit. In the chaos they managed to secure a shuttle and escape from Castameer.

They were free of their Sith master, but also at a crossroads. Their past affiliation with the Rogue Sith made it difficult to find stable employment and they were not eager to work for Sith again. So they became mercenaries. Then they were suddenly contacted by one of their former One Sith handlers. This was a surprise to them since they'd believed she had been purged by Reinheit for having a 'defeatist attitude' shortly before the fall of Coruscant. But here she was - alive and well. Regardless, their former handler knew of their difficulties and offered them a job with Archangel, a corporation that specialised in creating droids, especially HRDs.

The team was wary, but accepted as they were in need of credits. The former Imperial agent introduced them to Anna Komnena and Nalia Alderana, the directors of Archangel. The meeting was cordial. Archangel seemed to run a tight ship. They were given a few missions. Most of them revolved around eliminating competitors of the corporation or stealing tech Achangel wanted. They went off without a hitch and paid well. Yet something seemed...off about their employers. Everyone was just a bit too perfect. None of Archangel's employees ever slacked on the job. They were always professional, polite and a bit aloof. The same extended to their families. Their children were all straight A students who were always polite and never got in trouble.

They grew even more suspicious after being ordered to abduct a few researchers. They vanished without a trace, but when they returned seemed unusually hyper focused and pleased with their lot. The team decided to investigate the corporation, partly to acquire blackmail materiel if needed. Team Mirage began to shadow their former handler. It came to a confrontation and it turned out that the agent was no longer a human being, but a droid. The team slicer's accessed the HRD's chip and reprogrammed the machine. They also had some success at slicing into an Archangel databank to obtain information about the corporation.

The answers they got led them to a clandestine Archangel base. The team was able to infiltrate it and discovered that it was a huge factory, where organic beings were being processed into machines. There was also a cloning facility. However, then they were ambushed by Archangel forces. They fought bravely and tried to perform a fighting retreat, using explosives to blow up part of the place. However, they were outnumbered and outgunned. But Archangel was not interested in slaughtering the team. Instead they were stunned, captured and subjected to the same treatment as their old handler.

When they left the machines, they were HRDs. They had already been ruthless killers, so their rebirth did not change their morals. The machine cult emphasised the disdain they felt for Force-Users, building up on something that was already there. Archangel utilised them as a covert ops squad to help it secure advanced technology, acquire processing victims and eliminate beings that got in its way or had discovered its secrets. They also abducted Force-Sensitives for the machine cult to experiment on or clone. After Enyo Typhos rebelled, they were deployed against her criminal organisation, the Iron Fist Consortium. They missed her attack on Elysium Base, the place where they had been processed.

Putting their training to good use, they were able to ascertain the location of her base through a mixture of guile and brutality. Archangel launched a counterattack, driving Enyo from her base and forcing her into an alliance with a group of Eldorai renegades. Team Mirage was one of the Archangel units thrown at Enyo and her forces during the final battle. However, the renegade clone prevailed and took control over the machine cult. In the aftermath of the battle, she remembered the ex-Sith kill team and decided to repurpose it. After all, she was a believer in recycling and opposed wastefulness.

Thus the team was reborn again. They were programmed to serve Enyo and her clone family. Their missions are pretty similar to what they did under the old management, though their new boss is not interested in wiping out all organic life. Aside from abandoning schemes to commit genocide and achieve galactic domination, most of Archangel's business model has remained unchanged.

This is a pretty powerful group. That said, there's only four of them, and you could have easily opted to just use the factory sub as the basis for utilizing them in RPs. You stuck to the nature and limits of the already approved factory sub and fleshed out the fluff and how this will look in RPs. Have responsible fun with these.

Approved.

Great job with these subs!

I've only found one issue with this one:
  • Equipment: As per the template and given this unit's size and experience only items/weapons/vehicles/ships of Limited or higher production can be listed. The Infiltration Vessel 1A is of Semi-Unique production and therefore cannot be featured in the submission. I'll have to ask you to remove or replace it with a ship of Limited or higher production.
