A defensive missile system that specializes in the anti-starfighter and counter-missile roll. The missile racks can track targets moving around the ship or location they’re mounted to and fire counter missiles to intercept incoming ordinance, fighters, and other threats. Once expended, the pod retracts and is reloaded through an internal magazine. While the Tempest can be mounted straight to an emplacement or fortification without this reloading system, it will have to be manually reloaded, not the most appealing task mid-fight.
This system effectively trades a single launch, for swarm and rapid launch capabilities at the trade-off of a protracted reload. The turret design also allows for a larger field of fire than recessed missile tubes. Also, while the Tempest is billed as a point defense weapon, it's equally effective against anything that doesn’t react well to being hit by a swarm of missiles.
