Tempest
Storm of the Force
Tempest’s Assegai
OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
The natives of Dahomey grew up in a long period of isolation and technological regression. This did not mean they were primitive or savages. Quite the opposite, it meant that they adapted to their home environment perfectly. With no higher technical knowledge available they used what they could on their own underdeveloped world. This meant that weaponry returned in large part to basic melee and ranged weapons which could be made and maintained.
When the galaxy returned to Dahomey and after the Omega Pyre liberated the planet from slavers, the Dahomians switched to modern weapons. However, their skill with melee combat remained despite all this and many took to using vibro-weapons.
For Tempest, she used a lightsabre and learned to use it with great skill. However, after the Incursion she captured a quantity of Orichalcum ore and worked with Firemane to manufacture a spear with it which would use her old skills with new materials and technology.
The basis of the weapon was the electro-staffs used most famously by Grievous’ Magna-Guards. By making the shaft and head of Orichalcum the weapon was lightsabre resistant as well as strongly heat and cold protected. The long spear could outrange lightsabres and deliver powerful attacks which could be tailored from stunning to lethal.
However, Tempest added one twist. To go with her powers of lightning and electricity she added a capacitor which would take electrical energy to power up the internal power cell to deliver an even more powerful zap.
The weapon can also be thrown like a javelin, allowing her to add a ranged component to the weapon. This can be a useful means of surprising an enemy, especially when her telekinetic powers allow her to speed up and guide the spear’s path.
With these strengths also came weaknesses of course. The spear was heavier than a lightsabre, and thus harder to duel such an enemy. It also lacked the penetration of a lightsabre, though it made up for that in other areas. Finally, the weapon could potentially reach a point where it become overcharged and would need to be discharged or the capacitor would be burned out.

- Material: Orichalcum, electronics, electrostaff components, energy capacitors.
- Classification: Hybrid melee/ranged weapon.
- Size: One or two handed.
- Length: 1.8 metres.
- Weight: 2.5kg
- Lightsabre resistant
- Electrically conductive
- Heat/cold resistant
- Can be powered up by Force Lightning
- Can be thrown up to 20m with or without Force enhancement.
- Resistant. Orichalcum is resistant to lightsabres as well as heat and cold to a high degree.
- Versatile. The spear can be used in one or two hands in attack or defence. It can also set the power of the projector from a mere zap to a fatal discharge.
- Reach. The spear is longer than a lightsabre blade, and can keep an enemy at a distance.
- Charging. By using the conductive nature of the spear and the capacitors in the head Tempest can use her lightning to overcharge the spear to deliver a powerful electric discharge on contact.
- Javelin. The spear can be thrown up to 20m by Tempest. She can use her telekinetic powers to guide and increase the velocity of the throw. She can also use those same powers to pull it back to her.
- Penetration. Though powerful (literally) the spear lacks the penetration and cutting ability of a lightsabre. It also cannot easily deflect blaster bolts like a lightsabre.
- Weight. The spear is obviously heavier than a lightsabre, making duelling such an opponent harder.
- Overcharge. The capacitor absorbs electrical energy…no matter the source. Thus, it’s possible for the capacitor to become completely overcharged and either explode or need to be emergency discharged, wasting the built up power.
- Shatter. Orichalcum is only moderate at resisting physical damage. This is usually enough, but a crushing weight such as a walker foot, closing blast door and so on might shatter the spear in half.
- Miss. If the spear is thrown and misses it’s not always so easy to find again in a heated battle! Also added to this, even with telekinetic enhancement, the spear still lacks the velocity and mass to pierce heavy armour, relying more on shock.
