DESCRIPTION
Developed by the various minds within the Trade Federation, the TF01 Droid Cruiser; Barracuda Pattern was designed to operate as an effective mid-scale capital ship that could operate in a multitude of roles. Unlike the Remora, the Barracuda was designed from the ground up as a combat vessel. There were no lengthy periods of redesign, nor was the concept ever taken back to the drawing board. In many ways, the Barracuda was a bonafide warship with spartan quarters, stripped down corridors - free of any ornamentation - and the bare essentials needed to perform amicably in a combat environment. Naturally, this meant that every amenity that was often seen in an organic starship was placed in the upper habitation decks, as to not interfere with the combat operations that took place below.

Where one would normally find recreation decks or crew quarters, on the Barracuda, a passing observer would find rows of databanks, recharge stations, and all manners of equipment that assist in the automated processes of the warship. The additional computational power also serves a twofold purpose, as it allows for the storage of an advanced artificial intelligence system to administrate and effectively govern the warships processes, with little interference or oversight from additional synthetic or organic interfaces. Truly, the Barracuda was a marvel for the modern age. But, despite the heavy automaton, there were still systems that needed to be overseen by an invasive presence. This was where additional support details, such as engineering drones or droids, came into play.

The true beauty of the Barracuda lay within it’s weapon systems. Like the ancient Mufficient that came before, the prow section of the Barracuda was outfitted with a brace of super-heavy turbolaser cannons. The power that those two cannons offered was capable of punching holes through and melting small moons made of ice. When that lethality was applied to the various ships of the line? Well, the results varied depending on the target. Those two cannons were capable of allowing the Barracuda to punch above its weight-class and threaten their larger cousins in the Star Destroyer / Battleship line. That alone, made the Barracuda a dangerous vessel to face by itself, but when deployed in a pack formation?

It was doubtful that their prey would escape with their lives.

From there, the Barracuda was outfitted with a comprehensive array of weaponry that would supplement the starship’s primary armament. These weapon systems included a collection of long-range turbolasers and ion cannons. While they weren’t as powerful as the prow turbolasers, or their heavy compatriots, they still offered a significant boon to the Cruiser’s armament. These weapons allowed the Barracuda to engage their target from beyond conventional ranges, which often led towards their target’s defences being softened up well before the warship arrived within standard turbolaser range. Add on the flexible missile launchers and the sweeping point defence grid? Suffice to say, the Barracuda would become a potent addition to a government’s naval force.

As became standard with every Warship that was produced by the Trade Federation and their partners, there were portions of each and every Barracuda that was outfitted with strips of Electrum. These strips served no purpose in the successful operation of the starship, but were implemented to assist in tanking the Electrum Standard, which served as the foundations for several currencies throughout the galaxy. Soon enough? It would be a standard that would never again be utilized, leaving room for more… favourable monetary systems.

All hail the Trade Federation.
