- Effectively a massive gun with legs, the Mjolnir serves only one purpose in a conflict - the propelling of enormous projectiles to incredible distances, whether this is a distant stronghold, another continent, or even a planet's orbit. The shells themselves come in either guided or more traditional unguided variants and can house pretty much anything that fits - proton shells, cluster munitions ("popcorn shells"), and EMP shells are the most common, but CryoBan warheads, nuclear bombs, and even Trihexalon delivery systems are not uncommon. Unique payloads available to specific factions, groups, or individuals may be used in a similar fashion, such as the Sith Empire's Deathmist and Hellpyre or even the unconventional "droid dispersal shells" sometimes used by the Erakhian Federation.
- Hammer of the Gods: A weapon of fearsome potency, the Mjolnir's gargantuan shells strike with a power reminiscent of the gods of myth, shattering duracrete like glass, drilling through several metres-thick capital ship plating, or even blowing the top off a mountain.
- Walking Fortress: The Mjolnir is a walking target and fully cognizant of this fact - its armour plating is thicker than thick, a quartet of powerful antipersonnel blasters stand ready to shred incoming infantry, launchers on its legs are able to launch smokescreens and flares, and its powerful generator fuels a molecular shield able to shrug off fire from lesser artillery like stings from a gnat.
- Slow and Steady: Even using repulsorlift technology to avoid sinking down to the bedrock, the Mjolnir will never be a graceful beast, and wise commanders know to deploy it near where they want it to stay for most or all of a conflict.
- Supply Lines: The sheer size of the shells used necessitate a steady supply of new ammunition, for even with a firing rate of only four shells per minute - one from each barrel every thirty seconds - the weapon will have run dry after around five minutes of continuous fire.
Commissioned alongside the Thunderer, the unique difficulties posed by an artillery piece of this size - especially a mobile one - slowed down development, though Glimmersteel's engineers were eventually able to solve most of the issues plaguing the early prototypes, including using specialised repulsorlift technology to keep the walker's legs from sinking into soft terrain.
With the standard model complete and the mobility issues resolved, the engineers quickly created a stationary variant able to be incorporated into strongholds and, in theory, spaceships, though the latter would be laughably impractical under most circumstances.
Leaning heavily on TriTech's droidmaking expertise, the Mjolnir is automated enough that only a single crewman is needed, though the strategic value of the artillery piece means that it rarely operates without a full complement of five weapons technicians, housed within a cabin featuring a design reminiscent of corvette's bridge with an attached rec room; the stationary variant often removes this cabin in its entirety, opting to instead connect the weapon directly to a central command centre - this is especially common in Erakhian-built fortifications.
The bulk of the artillery platform's body is, however, not generally accessible to its organic crew, the process of loading and unloading shells being entirely automated; its droid complement is kept in specialised tubes designed to allow them to roll out and unfurl should the Mjolnir be threatened by advancing infantry or saboteurs - a hallmark of modern Erakhian military engineering.
