The Black Priests of Nemeroth

History: Ever since Darth Carnifex united the world of Panatha and the entire Pacanth Reach under his lordship a wound long sealed split open and continued to fester in the underbelly of his realm. This wasn't the first time that someone united the epicanthix people under one rule before. In ancient times an ancestor of the Black-Iron Tyrant and perhaps one of the most infamous figures of the Zambrano family accomplished such a feat.

Solomon Zambrano I

A renowned, extremely powerful Dark Lord and master of vile sorcerous, alchemical ways Solomon united Panatha under one rule, one nation under his leadership as the undisputed God-Emperor after usurping the throne from his father King Magnus Zambrano I. Solomon through his mastery of dark magic tainted Panatha with his experiments and power, carving out his own citadel, creating fonts of dark side power to fuel his own experiments, empowering himself with dark rituals, and more. He ushered the epicanthix people into several centuries of his dark rule.

Early on in his reign Solomon was so absorbed into his own unique concept of divinity, immortality, that he had a massive ceremony where he 'ascended' from mortal to god. From then on he would be addressed as Nemeroth, the Supreme One, the God of Death, War, Blood, Tyranny, and Violence. It was through his legions of vile creatures, dead, and sith spawned and epicanthix warriors that he ended worship of all other gods and established himself as the one true god. For virtually his entire reign the people were forced to build churches, statues, idols, altars to Nemeroth, daily sacrifices were made in his name.

Nemeroth created the Black Rites and was the sole progenitor of the Zambrano Line, believing his blood that of divinity, and they would not taint his line by breeding with others. It was this act that created a brutal line of cold, sadistic, bloodthirsty, and perhaps mad Zambrano heirs. It was said that every generation after Nemeroth each Zambrano through this practice of incest embodied one extreme trait of their ancient ancestor Solomon, but never more than one or two and always to the absolute extreme.

Hardly anything is known as to how or why his reign ended, but what is known is that his reign seemingly ended after his infamous disappearance. Not even his own family knew where he had gone, Solomon was such a cruel and dark being he treated his family just as cruel as he did his subjects, and they were rarely allowed to directly interact with the god who lived in a mountaintop citadel far away. What is known is ancient, forbidden lore locked away deep in the vaults of Zambrano lore.

There were a rare few who directly protected the dark one on a daily basis and the last of these upon their death bed said "One day I shall return and you will know it is I because the world will tremble in my wake. If I do not like what I see my wrath shall come down from the heavens to strike down all heretics". Eventually the worship of other gods returned and the massive amount of altars, churches, statues, and idols to Nemeroth disappeared until they were just as numerous as the other holy sites devoted to the Pantheon that Nemeroth joined, truly and completely deified by history.

Always in Panathan history there remained a radical cult devoted to the dark one and his cryptic prophecy of his return. They were quite powerful under the public Church of Nemeroth and operated with impunity, acting often in a more public guise as its inquisitors. The cult truly took a massive hit when [member="Darth Carnifex"] known as Kaine Zambrano I returned to Panatha and took over his homeworld. One of the first things Kaine did in a deep, dark hatred of his family's ways, the eternal power of the bloodline run so dry that they were even deposed and forced off of Panatha, forbid the worship of Nemeroth and ended the incestuous rites of his bloodline.

It didn't stop there.

Kaine led the entire Blackblade Legion in a crusade over the entire surface of Panatha, along with each and every world in the Pacanth Reach and destroyed every church, cathedral, statue, altar, and idol to Nemeroth the Defiler, slaughtering all priests, warriors, and loyalists to this religion he could get his hands on. However it was in these smoking ruins that the Black Priests of Nemeroth, vile sorcerers lived. When the Butcher-King focused his gaze elsewhere in the galaxy on galactic conquest, his fervent watch for these hated cultists lessened.

They grew and festered on the dark underbelly of the Zambrano Monarchy, spreading like a virus through this administration and working quietly on their quest to crucify Kaine Zambrano, the greatest heretic in the entire organizations history. However their greatest goal is the return of Nemeroth to the known world. They take their symbol from the ancient representation of Nemeroth as a menacing being, who sees and knows all, his reach extending everywhere and into all things.

The Forgotten Realm of Kosumoth

In ancient times at the height of the reign of the supreme one Nemeroth over the Pacanth Reach, he already began plans to distance himself from the realm of mortals, as the one true god. Already he was rarely seen in public his decrees sent down through gold masked puppets who acted as the Emissary of the Supreme One. Nemeroth began a massive undertaking to carve out his own dark realm from which he would rule all of his holdings.

The project began with gathering a massive amount of slaves from planets across the Pacanth Reach, taking time to erase them from known existence on every level of government except his own personal records, then taking them through a series of holding locations until they found themselves at a secret camp deep in the farthest reaches of the jungles surrounding a long dormant volcano where a base camp was formed.

It was here that thousands of slaves in a guarded off zone by elite alchemically engineered warriors and sith spawn along with countless more automatons and droids worked to carve into, and deep underground. The project lasted for over fifty years digging deep into the volcano and down many miles beneath the surface in what could quite possibly be the greatest undertaking in Panathan history, albeit secret. It was in this massive cavern protected with wall after wall of defense, ramparts, and secret cavernous that made it appear as if nothing was there. A specialized residue to block sensors and prevent its force signature from getting out. It was these extensive preparations that allowed the ancient realm to be almost completely invisible.

It was in the main cavern that Nemeroth carved out his massive elegant palace filled with riches, statues, ancient pieces of artwork many treasures, and compound associated with it, everything he needed to exist down in this environment. However once he was finished according to ancient myth and legend he had every single slave, slaver, guard, and volunteer worker killed, all droids destroyed and disintegrated which was the true part of the story. Everyone who knew about the project, helped design it were all killed, with the exception of the Grand Warlock of his Holy Church.

When Nemeroth disappeared nowhere to be found this closely guarded secret went to the Grand Warlock, as legend went to myth, myth to forgotten and the legend of Kosumoth, meaning purgatory or hell in ancient Epicant. Over the years these ancient halls so well trapped and protected, its vaults heavily enchanted with magic, more traps and security that a good amount of the deepest wings of the Palace were left relatively untouched. Outside of the palace many adjoining caverns and plots were created with the intent on housing the faithful who would join him when blessed but never completed. Its secret was handed down on the death bed of the Grand Warlock to the next.

The latest few Grand Warlocks before the Great Heresy chose not to use the secret location, which fell into disuse. It wasn't until the Great Heresy when [member="Darth Carnifex"] otherwise known as Kaine Zambrano I marshaled his soldiers across the entire Pacanth Reach reigning fire and death upon the Church of Nemeroth, scouring them from public memory. The church and its Grand Warlock retreated to Kosumoth so safe and hidden not even the God-King or any Zambrano family member since Nemeroth knew of its location. It was here they make their ancient home.
