A family hairloom, stained with blood. Originally made by the great ancestor of Jacen Alder the weapon was designed to be passed from generaton to generation. The weapon, while designed to be dangerous was never designed to be used, it was supposed to just look pretty on a mantle. It lost that function when Jacen Alder used it to slaughter the family that he had. The blade was used to cut cheeks and throats, the point and the edge both coming in useful in the murder. The lack of blood on the pummel suggests that it wasn't used for blunt force fighting.
It was later found stuck into his thigh, causing severe bleeding. Once removed and the wound was healed, the knife was returned to it's rightful owner. The weapon, the dagger would then become Jacen Alder's primary weapon while in Sith Training and his secondary weapon while in combat. The weapon's purpose during combat is to serve as an up close stabby tool but can also be used to beat a brain into jam or slash a throat to cause bleeding damage. The weapon is also a good backup weapon if everything goes very, very wrong.
