STRENGTHS
- Modular design allowed the armor to be layered over clothing or dressed down depending on the climate and weather, while allowing the wearer a high degree of mobility.
- The use of Rancor leather, reinforced by Terentatek hide plates, made the armor resistant to plasma-based weaponry. as well as piercing damage from kinetic strikes.
- No breathing support. No air filtration. No protection against toxins, inhalants, or aerosol pollutants/poisons.
- Limited area of protection (no head or leg protection).
- No dispersal of kinetic (blunt) impact. While the armor might stop a cutting strike from piercing the armor, it won't cushion the physical blow from bruising or breaking bone.
The armor worn by Boo Chiyo was originally patterned on the design in use while serving in the Iron Empire alongside his adoptive father, Théodred Heavenshield , though over time changes to the design came to better reflect both his adoptive homeworld of Midvinter as well as his own roots in the Dark Side cult known as the Primeval. Primarily constructed of cured Rancor hide, the armor shell was extremely flexible and durable. The addition of terentatek leather as reinforcement caused the armor to become stiff, a problem addressed by the use of segmented plating that was overlaid on the chest and thigh to increase protection in those areas. A gaberwool lining on the body and bracers added comfort as well as increased thermal retention, a key facet when worn in the arctic climate of Midvinter.
The modular design made the armor extremely versatile. In cold or arctic climates, the armor could be worn over clothing and with the addition of an armorweave cape that was lined with bantha fur for additional warmth. In temperate or warm weather, such as on Kashyyyk, the armor could be worn by itself, without the addition of the cloak. The Pantoran favored terrain-grip boots when in snow or icy climates, as well as the use of an earbud comlink so to leave his hands free.
The armor was also seen as being somewhat symbolic of the wearer, with the rancor and terentatek hide construction being a conscious choice on the part of the wearer. A Sithspawn, infected by terentatek venom, Boo had a presence in the Force which closely resembled that of the infamous Jedi killer -- which were believed to have been created through Sith experimentation with rancors.
