The Art of War - Professor Fenni (open to Public)

Faith had never had the advantage of going to college she was taught a a private school and then was married, and then was a politician. She learned her craft on the job.

Today though there was a visiting Professor at the University giving a class Faith decided to audit the class. She walked the polished halls, marveling in the structure of how well it curved to the hills of Alderaan. It fit into the idea of Alderaan efforts to save the natural environment perfectly.

She kept a watchful eye on the doors they were having a class in the auditorium today to accommodate all of the students and visiting students. It seems Faith was not the only one interested in the class to be given by the Professor. She finally found the auditorium door.

"Wow this is big. I hope this doesn't frighten her off." She smiled imagine this a University where anyone could come and go to class to learn whatever was being offered. It was another one of those dreams she had when she assumed the position of Queen come true.

Faith found herself a seat among the sea of chairs which were already half full with bright eyed students, and elders wanting to hear the class.

After a brief introduction, Yusana wasted no time in telling a few jokes (however dry and morbid, given the Echanis' predilections for glorifying violence and all manner of perverse subjects) to settle the sea of an audience down. She introduced herself first as a devotee of the art of swordsmanship, and only after establishing all of the undertones involved there did she disclose her status as senator for a neighboring peaceful power - the Commenor Systems Alliance.

"... You see, students, swordsmanship and politics are not all that different", the Echani speaker continued on, as some students no doubt raised a few eyebrows at the oddness of such an analogy. "We can discuss many flowery theories and ideologies, about how swordsmanship ought to and ought not to be, but it's a fruitless endeavor unless we hold it accountable to results." Yusana simply smiled before stepping a little to the side.

"I've been invited today to discuss a topic I am sure we would all like to discuss to the galaxy's end", she began again, soliciting some laughter from the students who'd already read the invitational brochures for the lecture. "These are dark times, students, and warfare is a constant variable in our lives. I'm sure the more studious of you have read up on your history - the wars between the Old Republic and the old Sith Empire, the Mandalorian Wars, the Galactic Civil War, the Clone Wars, and that's all well and proper of study, but warfare, like political finesse, like swordsmanship, requires strategy. We assess returns and costs, outcomes and consequences. For if we cannot ascertain ends, we will not know the most profitable ways of ruling, wielding weapons, or waging war."

As she finished, the lights in the large auditorium dimmed. Above their heads a large 3-D holo was flashed above the audience's seats, and in a light blue-green hue holo-vids of the galaxy's past wars were flashed. Descriptive analytic dialogue boxes and readings blinked to life alongside the footage, detailing specs about everything from troop formations to the names of officers and factions involved. And by no means was it some light, entertaining highlight reel. Included in all the footage were also snapshots of battlefields and urban centers following these major engagements, portraying a bleak aftermath where bodies littered the ground like leaves, broken machinery formed a sickening urbanscape, and columns of smoke and fire rose from the abyss.

Garith elected not to wear his armor today nor did he warn his daughter [member="Faith Organa"] that he would be here. What he wore was civilian clothing….trendy jeans, a normal t-shirt, and comfy sports shoes. The other piece of clothing he wore was a hooded sweat jacket. The hood was up covering his features as he sat clear in the back row of the class. Garith was curious. He wished to hear what they taught of history in these classes. Having lived history he had his own perspectives. Hearing other persons opinion held its merits. [member="Yusana Fenni"]

Kaiden stood, clad in his GA Fatigues. Several students craned to look at him. His fingers were covered in tattoos, his arms, exposed by the form-fitting t-shirt, exposed a swath of scars and other smaller tattoos on his arms. The most prominent was the Havoc Squad symbol on his forearm, and the knife on the opposite. He tapped his fingers on his biceps, watching the hologram. He walked forward, in front of the students. He began to point to several engagements over the past 20 years.

"There..."He pointed to the bloody battle of Coruscant, that failed. He pointed to Hapes. "There..."Then to Charros IV. "There..." Manaan. Korriban. "There..."Metalorn. "There..."O'reen. "There..."Carida. Other small engagements he could point out, but didn't bother. He looked at the professor, [member="Yusana Fenni"] was an Echani. They looked at combat like a dance. If Kaiden was a dancer in combat, he had two left feet. He was a brawler by nature. A shock-boxer through and through.

"Professor, my name is Sergeant Kaiden Rohn. I am a soldier with the Galactic Alliance. Specifically, I am the leader of Havoc, both GA and Republic alike."He turned his head to the hologram."I am honored to be here."He took a seat in the front row, sitting beside a young girl, who was startled that he was both here, and that he had survived all the conflicts he did. And that was just the ones he told her about, at least.

[member="Yusana Fenni"]

Yusana continued to lecture for a while longer, but chose not to tarry on any particular battle. She always believed that rather than spoon-feeding students, she ought to pique their curiosity instead. Perhaps the chaotic images of these wars would jog their minds and encourage them to read up on the subject - if not, then they probably aren't the type she's looking for anyway. Eventually she stopped however, having noticed the all-too discernable and proud getup of a military serviceman. It wasn't abrupt however, as Yusana simply chose to pause as the man stepped forward. On his face were the noticeable scars of many a conflict, and as an Echani, that was always something she was going to respect - regardless of rank. The holo's turquoise hue made the Echani's pale skin glow, a smile slowly forming on her face as she acknowledged the soldier's introduction with a small nod.

"It's a pleasure to meet your acquaintance, sergeant. I trust you're familiar with many of these battles yourself. Been in one or two of the major ones that made it to the books, I presume?" The senator's tone was light but reverent, as even though as an Echani fighting was as natural to her as breathing, it was nevertheless a sacred topic - something her kind treated with almost holy sanctity and approached with a kind of humility others only did for gods and deities.

"Students", Yusana then began as she gestured with her hand to call everyone's attention and addressed herself to Sgt. Rohn. "We have in our ranks a veteran."

"Surely you won't deprive us of the opportunity to hear your own account of the chaos that envelops this galaxy?", she then said to the serviceman as her delicate features betrayed an equally soft but sinister smile - almost as if she relished the very concept of battle for its own sake.

[member="Kaiden Rohn"] [member="Garith Darkhold"] [member="Faith Organa"]

She was a scholar. She didn't understand the finer details of warfare. Or it's effects. He blinked. It was the disconnect between soldiers and the people they protected. Kaiden didn't want to be put on a pedastal. He just wanted reality to set in for these kids. Young faces stared at him, eager. Willing to listen. He turned over to the professor, after she introduced him. His facial expression never waivered. Stone-cold. Echani were like that too. Except he was made like that- she was born like that.

"Sure. I can give you a simple answer- Sith and dark-sided aggression. I can trace it back several years- but I think I should start with the Republic."He rotated his arm to show the Havoc tattoo on his arm."My Republic."He said, pacing in front of the first row of students."The Republic was meant to be the ultimate symbol, the alliance, a coalition that existed since about when hyperspace was invented. For twenty millenia, the Republic stood by cooperation and a shared, vested interest in stability, economic growth, and protection."Kaiden folded his hands behind his back.

"And within ten years, due to pressures from the Sith and their machinations for power, it all came tumbling down. Jedi turned, Jedi died- and thousands upon thousands of soldiers died. I can tell you a number, but it's an arbitary word for you to hear a thousand. Or two thousand. It's another thing to see a city on fire. A world burning. Entire planets devastated, never to recover- from one fight."He flexed his tattooed hands behind his back."The worlds they burned, they conquered- existed in a state of total terror. And do you know what happened to the One Sith? The same thing that'll happen to the First Order, or whatever alliance they come up next."He craned his neck to the hologram.

"There was a time when the Republic was beating the Sith so badly that the Sith cut and run from almost every engagement we had. The Mandalorians cut in on the action too, but that's an entire different topic."He turned his head back to the students, who were hanging on his every word.

"And then, it all came crashing down."

[member="Yusana Fenni"]

A single hand raised.

And the owner of that hand was an unremarkable man. A pair of brown eyes met the gaze of the veteran, coupled with an initial nod of respect.

"A question, sir." he began, rising.

"Firstly, I am Senator Tusano of Cyrilla, serving the CSA. You began by stating that the Sith and other Dark-Side Aggressors are the cause of the Galaxy's current instability and hail the Republic as the ultimate alliance but...Was not the fallen Republic notoriously corrupt?"

"For example, during the so-called Dark Harvest crisis, the long-standing alliance between the Omega Protectorate and Galactic Republic came to a dramatic end. Some accounts claim this was due to a squabble over war spoils. At the time, the alliance between the Protectorate and the Republic was directly responsible for keeping the old Sith Empire in check...and it was broken over loot."

"So my question...are the Sith truly to blame? Or are we as Sentient beings naturally inclined to build, destroy, and build again?"

With his inquiry posed, the Senator returned to his seat.

[member="Kaiden Rohn"], [member="Yusana Fenni"]

"Good question."

He kept his hands folded behind his back. He pondered how to respond tactfully for a moment, before turning to face the senator who posed the question.

"Senator, I worked for both the Protectorate and the Republic. I can say that there are concessions that victorious parties must come to terms with, parley about, but- the Omega Protectorate and the Galactic Republic failed to do so."He rolled his shoulders, recalling the painful memory.

"The Sith, by their nature, are the embodiment of what corrupts sentinent beings. Humans, specifically for the most part, given the Xenophobic attitudes of most Sith empires and lords. The Sith are not entirely to blame, but they are the main catalyst for many of the tragedies and aggressions that plague the galaxy."

He turned to face the map, observing the map with a somber eye. Lives made into numbers on a projector. Men who died, becoming blips on a map. Time went on without them and they became part of history simply by participation. Names would be forgotten, but their participation in the battle is what solidified their duty.

"The Sith set in motion a series of events that have set the galaxy into a perpetual cycle of destruction- of chaos."

[member="Medir Tusano"]

As the Veteran spoke, the Senator busied himself scribbling down notes. One might assume he was copying the soldier's response word for word.

Once [member="Kaiden Rohn"] had concluded speaking, the Senator raised his pen.

"A follow up inquiry, if you will."

"The Sith have been apart of the Galaxy for thousands of years. History has shown that the Republic and Jedi have always managed to defeat them, in various forms, but they always...always return. And, they always assume a place of Galactic dominance."

"With the fall of the old Sith Empire, it was only a brief span of time before the One Sith rose to take its place. I need not remind a veteran of your caliber of Coruscant's fall..."

"And now, we live in a world devoid of the One Sith...and devoid of a dominant Sith presence. So, my questions are: How long do you believe we have until the next One Sith sweeps the Galaxy? And, How does the current Galactic Alliance plan to defeat an enemy that has not, for thousands of years, stayed down permanently?"

"I was at Coruscant." He stated bluntly. He could vividly remember frantically loading shotgun shells as Sith overwhelmed his position.

"I don't call the First Order lacking any Sith influence. I would say that the First Order borrows many elements from the One Sith, Sith Empire- and all the Sith that follow it." Kaiden pulled an empty chair, sitting in it. He leaned forward, his predatorial gaze fixated on the young college students, and the Senator.

"As long as there are Jedi, there will be Sith. Do you want to know how the Galactic Alliance wants to defeat them? With the same kind of warfare that we've been using for years and years."He rubbed his hands, looking at the students.

"But we all, as citizens, have to be comfortable with a total warfare scenario. The Mandalorians dropped an asteroid on a planet to deter any aggression by the Sith. And they've been mostly left alone by the Sith, save for a few relatively minor engagements that really- didn't turn out much of an outcome."He ran a hand through his cropped hair."We don't defeat the Sith by killing them. We salt the Earth where they stood. We burn their temples. We hang them. We burn their worlds. That's how you defeat an enemy like that. And until we are ready to do so, the Alliance, and every Jedi opposed to them- will continue to fall victim to the same tyrannical nonsense that they've been putting out for thousands upon thousands of years, Senator."

[member="Medir Tusano"]

[member="Kaiden Rohn"]

"And so, to defeat the Sith, one must employ their methods. Fighting fire with fire, atrocity with atrocity. History has shown that, during the Republic dismantling of the modern Sith Empire, that the Jedi Order sanctioned and utilized means typically viewed as barbaric by most civilizations. In one instance, Jedi unleashed the forces of nature upon captured civilians in the hopes of scoring a blow against the Sith. And I need not remind you of how many times Ahto City has sunk."

The Senator nodded, speaking whilst adding fresh notes.

"And so my question then becomes, if the bastions of light must act Sith to get results, where is the line? It's easy to say 'we stop at Sith' but the Alliance wages a hot war against the First Order even now. How long until they taste these methods of total war? How long until Separatist movements, Free Systems, or any detractors from the Alliance or Republic vision taste these methods? For it is my opinion that, if a nation is willing to fight like a Sith to defeat a Sith."

"Then they may as well call themselves Darth."

"The bastions of light have failed to defend the people they sought to protect time and time again. You're confusing acts of aggression and boldness with total warfare. The Sith do not understand anything but total annihilation. You don't stop them with hugs and kisses, son. You win the wars in the future by burning their planets. You're damn right I'll burn a planet to stop a Sith."

He cocked his head.

"You sit there from your seat, telling me how war is waged and what would happen."He rubbed his hands together. He had to be at least civil with the kid."And the outcomes. But I know them better than you do. I've seen them first hand. You have to be willing to wage war, Senator. We don't get to where we are as a society by being nice anymore. That time has passed. It is time for the Sith to understand that we will do unto them as they have done unto us, if not worse. I will slit throats for the Alliance, senator. I will burn a world to save ten. Would you?"

Yusana kept silent as only a half-smirk danced about her face. It was with nothing less than enthralling interest that the Echani listened to her fellow senator and the jaded veteran exchange views in what was a very engaged, but very civil discussion. From the corners of the auditorium, still bathed in the holo's turquoise light with the above them, one could hear the hushed whispers and debates among the other students as they listened to the main discussion going on - one could say it was what every senate should be - respectful, modest, frank, but also critical in getting right to the heart of the matter.

The subject tended more towards ethics now, but in these troubled times that was just as important when discussing tactics or strategy. At one point the Echani finally decided to give her own two credits on the matter. "Very often, strategy and tactics behave independently of ethical dilemmas, at least immediately." Yusana then motioned with her hand, which immediately interfaced with the 3-D holo map above them. What immediately came up was a string of images covering the Mandalorian Wars and the Clone wars.

"War in and of itself is an injustice, students. Think of the Light Side and the Dark as opposing ends of a spectrum rather than a dichotomizing rift." She tried to simplify the rather engaging discussion the two were having - not all may have been able to keep up. "The two are not always mutually exclusive, and towards the central grey tendency they're almost indistinguishable. Sometimes, Darkness may utilize generosity and compassion if it serves them, and in like spirit Light may utilize destruction if it proves efficacious in the long run." Yusana then turned to look at the audience, smiling at both [member="Kaiden Rohn"] and [member="Medir Tusano"] before turning to everyone else.

"Also, if you study your history, you'll learn that this spectrum with respect to our own history is cyclical. We move from epoch to epoch where either Light or Dark rules. One rises, synthesizes with the other, and the tables turn. It is this imbalance that turns the gears of history, my students."

"It is this imbalance, that brings war."

Faith was quiet she had been part of the Republic but it was after the events thta Kaiden spoke of. She believed she understood what he was trying to convey she had a hard time with the Sith herself. She tried to understand she had met with Kaine a few times seeking understanding. She believed that someone pretending to be a friend of Tia's also had some kind of dark connection but not proof.

Faith raised her hand, "Do you believe then what they say it is necessary to have both light and dark, that it swings between the two who is dominant to keep this balance?" She smiled at the Professor wanting to be sure she understood.

It was a simple question compared to the lively discussion between the Senator and the Soldier not something that was often heard but here in a classroom opinions mattered as well as fact.

"I would argue that they are necessary, yes," Yusana said before pausing briefly, as if gathering her thoughts to compose her reply in her head before she said something that might be terribly misunderstood by most.

"Each keeps the other in check. We've seen this throughout our history - either side in excess leads to corruption. The Sith's mad lust for power and domination causes infighting, breeds mistrust and destroys lives. The Jedi's strict dogmatism and emphasis on the rule of law, on the other end of the spectrum, stems talent, breeds complacency, and tends to mediocrity. If I were to take anything good out of the Dark Side, Your Grace, it'd be competition. If I were to take anything good out of the Light, it'd be cooperation. Would we not all agree that both are necessary for a society that is not only peaceful, but also progressive?"

The lecturer then chuckled as she covered her mouth. "By no means am I advocating that the audience take up the robes of the Sith, the Jedi or the Rennites", she continued, eliciting some laughter, "But I want all here to understand that beyond each of our own little moral codes and whatever dogma we agree upon, the universe, the Force, all of this," she said as she gestured with her hand, directing at everything from the audience, to the walls, to the ceiling, "is indifferent to the plight of both sensitives and non-sensitives - from the highest nobility to the lowest peasant. All of this, is devoid of meaning or purpose."

"But it is because there is no pre-set purpose, that we are free to give it our own. It is in this purpose that we imbue life with for us for the sake of our own meanings, that we find our capacities and propensities for compassion, justice, order, power."

A soft smile once again appeared on Yusana's face now.

"But also, due to our individual or collective purposes, our raison d'etres, conflicting interests, that we once again return to war."

[member="Faith Organa"] [member="Kaiden Rohn"]

Faith nodded understanding what [member="Yusana Fenni"] was trying to say, "So in the Art of Warfare when it comes to defeating Jedi or Sith, do you recommend avoiding war altogether and advocate letting them run the course of their history. Knowing, or assuming that eventually the power would shift to the other?

There were many opinions regarding Sith and Jedi, and other orders that used the force by another name. She was enjoying this class hearing the different views. She enjoyed the exchange between [member="Kaiden Rohn"] and [member="Malok"] . She had not heard many opinions about the Republic or how it had been viewed from the inside and the outside. She had walked the halls of where no one spoke badly around every time a positive attitude that it was going to get better.

It didn't it got progressively worse until it fell. More like it shattered but that was also history, and it was now a lesson for classrooms such as this.

She tried not to dwell on the thought of the past it still at times weighed heavily upon her. Instead she looked ahead and waited for the answer to her question.

[member="Garith Darkhold"]

"Ah, the Jedi and the Sith are a more complex issue, Your Grace", Yusana simply replied with a smile as she looked at her watch briefly, seeing that now was a good time to conclude the session already, as some of the other students were already getting restless. At the mention of the two ancient orders however, the audience was once again reduced to silence.

"I can see that got your attention", the Echani remarked as her eyes surveyed the audience once more.

"The Jedi and the Sith are, problematic," she began, "Both seek the same outcome, but the avenues by which they arrive are radically different. There is a junction however - their ideology of the Force as a concept. In a way, most of the wars of the galaxy can be attributed to the swinging of the pendulum in the Force. Most of you may dismiss all of this as the ramblings-on about a hokey religion, but I think it demands more careful study."

She cleared her throat as she interfaced with the holo once more, bringing up images of the Mandalorian Wars, but most importantly, of Darth Revan and Darth Treya, who later on would simply be referred to as Kreia.

"Both Orders state that their rise and falls are the will of the Force. It would appear then, that these wars and cycles of strife and peace can be attributed to the Will of the Force. If that hypothesis is true, then the matter becomes more problematic. To pursue this balance, which is periodically shifted towards either side, thousands of us must die." Yusana then smiled.

"If the wars are to end, both the Jedi and the Sith must be addressed as the radical extremes that they are. The pendulum must stop. The Force, must die."

The silence that followed was so encompassing that one would be able to hear a pin drop.

Xenro

Nox Aeternum.
His fingers steepled in the back of the room as he listened to the passionate words of the woman. His green eyes flickered with some distant sentiment- perhaps amusement- as he assessed the complete picture with a crooked smile. The Jedi and Sith are the same, as they both seek to do the will of the Force.

The Force must die.

Historically, those with such beliefs were seen as dangerous, or dismissed as demagogues. That Alderaan allowed them not simply to speak, but to be heard so openly made things so much more...

"Fascinating," he murmured, his voice little more than a rattled hiss. There were things he would have corrected, disagreements he would have voiced, and lessons he would have given- had he cared to do so. What he drew from this, was that there were creatures in the galaxy that, if given the opportunity and guidance, could be coaxed to do magnificent things.

This Echani woman was one such creature.

She found merit in darkness and in light, but stood fast in neither. Her passions burnt brightly, and that was what the Sith Lord saw as he felt the warmth trickle away from every other corner of the room. [member="Yusana Fenni"] most likely knew that her words would not be well received, but she gave them anyway.

Synthetic flesh writhed against the blackened bones that it covered as he stood and offered her a standing ovation. No one else dared to clap, but the enigmatic man could not refuse the woman her due. "Bravo," he called out in a strong, lively voice that he'd recently stolen from it's previous owner.

The surgery had been lengthy.

"And how would you see it done, Professor?" he asked, a warm smile on his face.

The Force Disperser in his robes assured no one would sense that he had any presence at all.

Needless to say, the lone applause from [member="Xenro"] was enough to startle most. The Echani herself found it perplexing, as normally it was a matter of such complexity that she chose to avoid it, and she also found over time that most could not even begin to fathom the finer points and intricacies of the subject, let alone of the Force. For a brief moment Yusana found herself speechless, but she eventually snapped out of it. Admittedly, initially she could not make sense of the lone individual who offered her a most bizarre standing ovation. That same gentle, stoic smile returned to her face and her expression softened.

"Ah, I see you enjoy the finer points of the mystery that is the Force", she began serenely but also without any noticeable emotion hinting at either approval, or disapproval. Yusana stopped for a bit and turned her eyes to the audience to see if she still had him with her, and upon seeing that the entire room seemed drawn towards the complexity and gravity of the subject, turned back to the mysterious stranger and continued.

"If you would recall the Jedi-Sith War, the Sith were leveled save for one," she began, referring to the late Sith Lord, Darth Bane. "Depending on who you ask however you'll get a different answer, but were I to speak on the matter, it was a cleansing that was necessary to reboot the Sith and turn them into something better." She paused again, a masterful rhetorical move that only served to draw the audience in more. She looked at everyone once again. "To most of you, the Jedi and the Sith are myth, stuff of legend. Whether they actually exist is up for another discussion, but it is their concept that you can all learn from before I dismiss you all."

Yusana then turned to the stranger once more. "Perhaps in spirit of the late Dark Lord, I would make the same prescription. Sith of contemporary times are dark spirits raised in times of abundance. They are weak, and not of the same stuff as their predecessors. They have also lost that wonderful spirit of contention and independence that made them great. In these uncertain times, they are children clinging to the Force and their energy weapons. Sever this connection however, and I am sure you will find even the highest Dark Lord capitulating to a Mandalorian perhaps, or an Echani, whose strength is their own and independent of externals. They are weak, and for this offense against their own supposed code, must be eradicated." Her concluding thesis was enough to make even the most cynical student gasp, and none would have a moment's respite before the professor trained her wits next on the Sith's antithesis - the Jedi.

"As for the Jedi, their hubris and their complacency result in fear of what they do not understand. Rather than approaching what they cannot perceive, they retreat to their near-sighted-ness and sanctimoniously reject what is necessary to perfect their code."

"...."

"The same prescription is necessary. If we want to address this structural flaw in the Jedi, we must wipe them clean from the face of the galaxy as well. Only then will the Order be given the chance to rebuild and reform."

Xenro

Nox Aeternum.
Weakness was the blackest sin of all sentient beings. To ascend to greater heights sometimes meant to step on the back of another being to climb, and the inability or refusal to do so was a fatal flaw. This woman recognized certain aspects of Sith philosophy that even some Sith seemed to have forgotten, and yet with her prognosis, she revealed that she still fell short of true understanding.

The very idea that a Sith would fail to become powerful simply from a lack of the Force meant that they had no right to be a Sith at all.

"It is not so much the Force that intrigues me," he spoke up as she finished, "but your view of it. The collective of gifted individuals presents a problem to those of us not given to their preconditions. The people who live normal lives as Force Users do what they will, we are afflicted by their grand wars, and we die as victims to them."

The best lies were often tempered in some measure of truth, and Xenro's own philosophy was neither friend to others who shared his code nor to the Jedi who railed against it. In truth, massive disarmament of Force Adepts was a notion that he would gladly back. Those who did not deserve power could be relieved of it.

And those without power could crumble away, and finally find freedom from the torment of the Force, of war, of life.

This woman needed only to hear the parts that would embolden her view, and he intended only to serve those to her.

"As with all flawed structures, as you have presented, the eradication- no, call it pacification, since no one need die- of these orders presents an opportunity for true peace in the galaxy." The green eyed man looked across the room, aware of every anxious, disbelieving, and reproachful gaze that fell on both he and [member="Yusana Fenni"], and he bowed his head.

"The only question that remains to be asked is how you would go about stripping them of that power," he said at last. "Given that the knowledge that you intended to do so would also inevitably incite another conflict?"

No one who had power would willingly give it up. Not the Sith, not even the Jedi.

How would she proceed?
