ADVANCED SYSTEMS
STRENGTHS
  • Omni-directional fire: The vast majority of the weaponry on this ship has been mounted on rotating turrets which allows the ship to send outgoing fire in virtually all directions. This is in keeping with the tradition of having Hapan Turbolasers on rotating rails and is a hallmark of the Battle Dragon design.
WEAKNESSES
  • Old Bones: While this Battle Dragon's weapons systems have been updated, the hull, frame and power distribution systems remain relatively antiquated. Power distribution problems, such as short-outs that disable primary systems, remain a significant problem and make these ships somewhat unreliable at times. Obsidian Star contractors have stated that the only way to completely route out these problems would be to design a completely new Battle Dragon from the ground up which is an undertaking that seems unlikely given the current political climate of the Consortium.
DESCRIPTION

As Lady Rowan Vale, Commodore in the Hapan Royal Navy and Duch'a of the planet Terephon, began to study the growing war between the Silver Concord and the Bryn'adul, she became concerned. After a long period of peace for her star system, her world's defense fleet had lagged far behind the galactic standard in terms of technology. The fleet's four main Battle Dragons were old, many using the same technology that was prevalent in the Consortium during the Galactic Civil War, centuries earlier. Her fear was that if the Bryn'adul somehow were able to strike as far into the Concord as the Hapes Consortium, her world would fall without much of a fight.

To combat this possibility, under her own authority as Duch'a, Rowan nationalized a large portion of Terephon's GNP, taking a bulk of the profits from the world's business year and funneling them into a military refit contract with Obsidian Star Aerospace and its parent corporation Obsidian Star Technologies. This money was used to purchase updated turbolaser batteries, laser cannons, fighters and numerous other weaponry in order to refit her fleet. While the bulk of the grunt work would be done by Terephon's own Royal Terephon Engineers company, Obsidian Star would send a group of consultants to oversee the work. In addition, a few key ships would be sent to Obsidian Star's shipyard over Danuta for immediate refit.

This move caused rumbles of uncertainty throughout the Consortium as rival noble houses accused Lady Vale of upgrading her forces as a prelude to an armed coup against the current Royal House and Queen Mother. While she has staunchly denied these allegations, opportunistic parties within the Consortium have continued to fan these rumors for their own purposes. While the other battle dragons within the fleet underwent a similar refit, the fleet's Flagship the Bane of Lorell had an additional hangar installed to carry another squadron of starfighters.
