The Brotherhood

A History Forged in Shadow and Unity

The origins of the Brotherhood lie not in the fiery ambition of the Sith nor the austere self-denial of the Jedi, but in the heretical teachings of Kakus, a Force-wielder who defied both established orders. Kakus, unlike his contemporaries, saw the Dark Side not as a path to selfish tyranny, but as a tool for achieving order and collective strength – a binding force capable of uniting individuals under a shared purpose. He rejected the Sith's chaotic pursuit of individual power and the Jedi's emotionally stunted dogma, finding both paths fundamentally flawed.

His sons, Reign and Rellik (formerly Darth Reign and Darth Rellik, titles cast aside to symbolize their break from the Sith), inherited their father's unconventional philosophy. They witnessed firsthand the destructive nature of unchecked ambition within the Sith ranks and the crippling weakness born of the Jedi's emotional repression. Following the Galactic Alliance's subjugation of Taris, the brothers retreated to the Outer Rim planet Bastion, a secluded world where they could forge their own path.

On Bastion, the seeds of the Brotherhood were sown. Observing the galaxy's teetering balance between chaos and stagnation, Reign and Rellik envisioned an alternative – an order that harnessed the power of the Dark Side without succumbing to its inherent self-destruction. Their philosophy, crystallized in the Code of the Diarchy, prioritized unity, loyalty, and shared purpose above individual glory.

The Code, a testament to Kakus's legacy, proclaimed:

Bonds of Unity Create Power
Power Shared is Power Multiplied
Power Multiplied Creates Purpose
Purpose for Order over Chaos

Loyalty Above All

This philosophy formed the bedrock of the Brotherhood's training and recruitment. The Crucible of Order, a temple and academy built on Bastion, became the heart of their burgeoning order. Here, disillusioned Force-sensitives – former Sith weary of betrayal and Jedi cast aside for their refusal to suppress their emotions – found a new purpose. They swore oaths of unwavering loyalty, mastering the Force, both light and dark, as instruments of their collective will, not tools for individual dominance or self-aggrandizement.

Unlike the Sith, who sought domination through conquest, and the Jedi, who aimed for passive guardianship, the Brotherhood pursued a vision of active, controlled order. Their mission became the imposition of stability upon a galaxy perpetually teetering on the brink of collapse. This inherently challenged both the established orders. The Jedi saw the Brotherhood as a dangerous reflection of their own potential for unchecked power, a dark mirror to their own restrained ideals. The Sith viewed them as heretics, their unified strength and abandonment of self-serving ambition a direct threat to their dominance.

The Brotherhood, however, flourished under the dual leadership of Reign and Rellik, the Diarchs. Their collective power, amplified by the unwavering loyalty of their members, became a force to be reckoned with, expanding their influence and challenging the status quo of the galaxy. The legacy of Kakus, a legacy of controlled power and unwavering unity, lived on, proving that the Dark Side could be a path not just to tyranny, but to order, if tempered by a shared vision and unbreakable bonds. The Brotherhood stood as a testament—a powerful, cohesive force born from the ashes of conflicting ideologies, a third path forged in defiance of the galaxy's established norms.

Ranks within the Brotherhood

  • Initiate of the Brotherhood

Initiates are the foundation of the Brotherhood, the nascent sparks of power upon which the Order's strength is built. Recruited from across the galaxy at varying ages, Initiates begin their journey at the Crucible of Order on Bastion. Regardless of prior training or Force sensitivity level, all new members enter as Initiates. While the Diarchy prioritizes young recruits, those disillusioned with other Orders are also accepted, though their time as Initiates may be shorter depending on their existing abilities.
The Initiate's training focuses on developing fundamental skills crucial to Brotherhood life. Until the age of fourteen, the curriculum centers on:
    • Basic Combat Skills: Mastering the fundamentals of lightsaber combat and unarmed fighting techniques.
    • Force Fundamentals: Learning to control and manipulate the Force through basic exercises and meditations.
    • Disciplinary Training: Participating in rigorous rituals and training exercises designed to build discipline, focus, and resilience.
    • Brotherhood Philosophy: Studying the Code of the Diarchy and the principles of shared power that underpin the Brotherhood's ideology.
Initiates represent untamed potential, a raw power awaiting refinement into a weapon for the Brotherhood's cause. Their commitment and loyalty are tested daily, forging the unwavering strength that defines the Brothers and Sisters of the Order.

  • Oathsworn of the Brotherhood

Oathsworn represent the heart of the Brotherhood, the vast majority of students within the Crucible of Order on Bastion. Having pledged unwavering loyalty to a mentor and the Brotherhood's cause, these Force-sensitive Oathsworn embody the Order's core values of commitment and unity over personal ambition. The Oath, taken typically around the age of fourteen but potentially later at the Archon of Order's discretion, marks a pivotal transition in their training.

Upon taking the Oath, Oathsworn are meticulously assessed and assigned to one of two specialized schools based on their natural force tendency, each contributing uniquely to the Diarchy's well-being:

    1. Praetor School: A crucible of dark side power within the Crucible of Order, cultivates the raw power of the Dark Side. Here, naturally attuned students learn to channel its energies, not for personal gain, but for the enduring strength and prosperity of the Diarchy. Discipline and controlled ambition are paramount, forging leaders capable of wielding immense power to secure the Diarchy's galactic dominance.

    2. Justicar School: a pillar of the Crucible of Order, the School stands as a beacon of the Light Side. Here, naturally attuned Force users embrace their inherent goodness, learning to channel its power for the Diarchy's benefit. Rejecting the self-denial that breeds weakness, Justicars are trained to wield the Light's true strength, safeguarding the galaxy from the encroaching darkness. They are champions of justice, tempered by compassion and a deep understanding of their own humanity.

Inter-school rivalry fuels the Oathsworn's development. Consistent excellence in training and competitive events not only hones individual skills but also significantly impacts post-graduation assignments to the Vanguard rank. Outstanding performance against peers from other schools secures advantageous placements and career opportunities within the Diarchy. The Oathsworn, therefore, are not just students, but the future leaders and protectors of the Diarchy, their dedication forged in the crucible of competition and unwavering loyalty.

  • Vanguards of the Brotherhood

Vanguards are the stalwart warriors and champions of the Brotherhood, the embodiment of strength, discipline, and unwavering loyalty. Graduates of the Crucible of Order on Bastion, most Oathsworn achieve this rank by the age of twenty, signifying their completion of rigorous training and their commitment to upholding the Diarchy's will.

As the Brotherhood's first line of defense and offense, Vanguards serve as its enforcers, protecting its principles and its members. Upon graduation, Vanguards assume positions aligned with a specialization within the Crucible, contributing their skills to the Order's various endeavors. They are the bedrock of the Diarchy, consistently demonstrating unwavering dedication and service. This will be their first opportunity to work intimately with both aspiring Praetors and Justicars since they were Initiates. While each school divides based on force preference, Vanguards are expected to work together now for the betterment of the Diarchy.

After a period of dedicated service (typically one to two years), many Vanguards transition additionally into mentorship roles within their former schools at the Crucible. Guiding and instructing younger Oathsworn, they lead by example, sharing their expertise and providing invaluable guidance to those navigating their studies and future career paths within the Brotherhood.

The title "Preserver" is not merely a rank; it is a testament to unwavering commitment, unmatched skill, and profound spiritual understanding. It is a position earned through years of dedicated service and unwavering loyalty to the Brotherhood and its sacred ideals.

  • Praetor and Justicar of the Brotherhood

Praetors (Dark Side Title) and Justicars (Light Side Title) stand as the apex of achievement within the Brotherhood, embodying the pinnacle of martial prowess, spiritual enlightenment, and unwavering devotion to the Crucible of Order's tenets. • High Council Advisory: Serving as key advisors to the Diarchs and High Council, offering insightful counsel on matters of strategic planning, philosophical debate, and the overall direction of the Brotherhood. Their wisdom and experience inform the most crucial decisions affecting the Order's destiny.
Qualifications: Attainment of the Praetor rank necessitates unparalleled mastery of Force abilities, exceptional leadership skills, unwavering dedication to the Brotherhood's ideals, and a proven track record of exemplary service. Only those who have demonstrated profound understanding and application of Bastion's teachings, along with outstanding achievements in their respective fields, are considered for this esteemed position.

Archons hold ultimate authority within their assigned school of the Crucible and over all Brotherhood members associated with that school's disciplines. They are members of the Diarchy High Council and report directly to the Diarchs, wielding sweeping influence over the Diarchy Domain. Their decisions carry the full weight of the Brotherhood's power and are rarely questioned.

    • Enforcement of Order: Archons possess the authority to enforce the strictest codes of conduct within the Brotherhood, ensuring discipline and adherence to the Order's core tenets. Their judgements concerning internal matters are rarely appealed.
Selection: The ascension to the rank of Archon is a singular honor, bestowed only upon those who have demonstrated unparalleled mastery of their chosen school and career, unwavering loyalty to the Diarchs, and exceptional leadership qualities. The selection process is shrouded in secrecy, known only to the Diarchs themselves.
