The Cargo Run (Nova Outbound Fleet)

Oka Osaa

Well-Known Member
Oka sat a land cargo vehicle as the cargo was being loaded with valuable items. He was eating some sort of jerky or something. It was an early morning anyways. The announcer spoke up on the intercom.

"Nova Outbound Fleet. The cargo has been put on the cargo vehicle. You need to get to the destination without losing any goods or letting them get damaged. You will be reliable for any damages. The payout is two-million dollars. Your Admiral will decide the amount for each. One last thing.... you will encounter broken pathways, forests, bounty hunter and smuggler routes, and a lot of deadly enemies. We hope you have safe travel and good luck."

Oka smiled and looked at the holocron of the routes. "Okay, everybody listen up. Two people will need to stay at the rear. Two at the front and two on each side. We can minimise it to one on each side but we need all protection possible. The vehicle is slow and its possible it will break down if we hit different climates. Admiral Cross will proceed with some more directions." he said moving to the front of the vehicle.

Escort jobs. Worse kind of job out there. Chaff did not like protecting things. Period. He much preferred blowing stuff up. Too many factors that could interfere with this kinda job. Not to mention that it meant he wouldn't really be able to use the heavy ordnance without risking hitting the stuff. He rolled his eyes as he walked over to Oka.

"I hate transportation jobs. I mean, do I look like a damn smuggler?"

Another day, another run. At least this time we had a tactical advantage. High-tech speeder bikes, loaded with weapons, and plenty of ammo to feed 'em. I looked over at the map Oka was holding. There were a lot of hotspots that represented possible ambush points.

"Well, Chaff, you're gonna have plenty of stuff to shoot at. How do you guys like the new speeders?"

I grabbed my whiskey, drank some, and put it back in my jacket. I gunned the speeder's engine, and activated the guns.

"Keep 'em running hot. Never now what we'll hit."

Oka had a small smile to Chaffs response. "Who said you are the smuggler. I'll stay on the cargo trailer. " he said hopping onto the front where the hookup was. "Ready when you are Admiral, and don't waste ammo. I'm sure two-million for just a transport job means something."

Chaff looked over the speeders.

"Ya, I'll admit they look good. Should work." He said as he got on and started it up. "And I never waste ammo. By the way, how we splitting the cut here?"

"Its up to the Admiral. But I don't accept credits unless its an odd job. This, to me is a fleet job. Its our duty but I'm sure he'll make it pretty even based on how hard you work." he explained sitting on a heavy crate. He put up his brown hood and said, "It all depends on if we survive..." It was a joke but it was also the truth. Sith all these spots for attacks, they're basically sitting ducks without a good defense and offense.

Chaff could not help but laugh at this.

"Duty? Are you joking? This isn't some government operation where we worry about things like ideals and such. We're working for a PMC. You join a PMC for two reasons. The credits, or the action. You don't join cause it's your 'duty'."

[member="Oka Osaa"] [member="Cross Ikon"]

"Everybody here gets the same cut, right now. We'll figure out specifics later. For now, mount up and make sure everything's working."

"I suppose you're right. I don't see credits as something needed in my life. To get materials and stuff is basically all I use them for. Sometimes at bars or restaurants." he said having to stop because Cross gave an order. He nodded and got off the crate as he hopped on a speeder. "I'll scout the routes Admiral." he said turning the speeder on.

Rik'Tani

Cross's Gold-skinned Princess
Rikki ran her fingernails over the shiny new metal of her speeder, revving it up. "Purrs like a kitten," She said. "Admiral, dear, do you think we can paint them a more suitable color after this? Brown's nice and all, but it's a little DULL..."

I looked at Chaff with a mock-hurt expression.

"And here I thought you were here for our wonderful company... You wound me, Chaff."

I spun the speeder bike around to Rikki and Oka.

"Go on and scout, Oka. You're probably the best one for the job."

I reached out and stroked the front of my bike. It was a pretty crappy paint job, and something would have to be done to remedy that. And then I reached out and squeezed Rikki's hand.

"Go ahead and paint it, love. Mine's gonna be red and gold... Maybe even with real gold, this time..."

Chaff rolled his eyes.

"Get a room, you two. And Cross, just drink some more of ya beer, I'm sure you'll get over the pain of me not being here for ya company soon enough." Chaff said as he scanned the perimeter of the area."

Rik'Tani

Cross's Gold-skinned Princess
Rikki squeezed Cross's hand back. "It'll be magnificent, Red. Can't wait to see it." To Chaff's comment, she merely smirked. "Oh I wouldn't worry about it. I have a way of making him get over things..." She said, giving Cross a sly little wink.

"Yeah, you certainly do."

I returned the wink, and pulled Rikki over to me for a kiss. When I stopped, I whispered in her ear.

"Don't tell them yet, but I have a feeling that this shipment ain't getting to its destination. I don't know what it is, but it's valuable enough to merit a mil to transport it. If we get in real trouble, I'm gonna have us just pull out and run like hell."

Nomad turned his speeder bike's engines on. The bike ran perfectly.

"I'll go with Oka and scout" He said to cross, he had to raise his voice over the engines.

He wasn't going to enter the conversation; This was a mission not some cantina.

"Will do Admiral. Come on Nomad, see if yo7 can keep up." he joked as the speeder shot off out of the cargo hangar. This was going to be fun but dangerous.

Kadrak studied the speeder bike in front of her for a moment, mentally going over its components in her head while she silently wished she had time to tinker with it, and perhaps even disassemble and reassemble a few of the more interesting pieces of technology it was fitted with. As a mechanic she wasn't concerned with the look of things, but rather how they worked and if they would prove just as functional when the group needed them most.
"A nice piece of tech, certainly. But I have this feeling our employer wouldn't allow us the pleasure of using them if they wouldn't be needed somewhere along the line." She made this comment idly as she stowed her small toolkit away in the decently sized cargo container allotted to each of the bikes, already having many of er necessary tools on the belt she wore, her tinted goggles in their usual place slung around her neck. "Well, at least if anything breaks down it won't stay that way for long." There was a slightly cheerful edge to her tone, though she was just as wary about all of this as everyone else.

"Our dear employer didn't have a choice in the matter. These bikes are what was in the crate I had dropped here along with us. My tech, my choice, no?"

I grinned at Kadrak, and stuck my tongue out.

"You didn't think I would let us go into hostile territory with something I didn't design, did you?"
