The Chaos Wikia

Wikia.

Hey Wikia is great. Many people may disagree with that statement but I truly think Wikia is great. I think it's useful, very useful.

Here's what I'm thinking. We start a Chaos Wikia and staff allocate a group of willing volunteers to collect information and go through and add all the information about planets that have been changed via Chaos Canon and whatever else.

It's going to be a time consuming task. It's going to take a while.

But hey.

It'd be fun.

Thoughts?

I feel like this comes up twice a year. I think there is even some people working on it now. Either way I like Wikis but the last site I was on the Wiki actually killed RP. Suddenly instead of people telling stories they were just updating wiki's with half RPed events and it started sucking all their time. It was really stupid. I'd hate to see that happen here.

I think it's a good idea. It would help allow for newer members (such as myself) to learn about all the stuff that's happened on Chaos without having to go through pages and pages of threads. It would better help to categorize stuff as a whole, like planets, species, factions, etc. I'm not saying it isn't organized good right now, but we can get more specific with the wiki like sentient species, non-sentient, or lava planets, ice planets, etc.

Partly why I suggested that only a select group of people appointed by the admin and RPJ team are able to work on this. Other things get removed.

Feel like that's the best way to make sure only the important stuff goes up there.

I feel that man. I was just trying to answer any questions. Once you make a suggestion, you might as well keep active in it to reach something everyone likes. If I can suggest ideas that mean that this wiki won't be anything like you previously experienced then I plan to.

Honestly when it comes to a wiki you'd just need controls. Another problem that previous wiki had was, since it was open, random people would just post their fandom on there. Also a lot of people stole our wiki content including some of the bios and organizations and stuff that are on it. There are issues with a wiki but overall they increase the visibility of the site and also helps new people be able to quickly look at events on the wiki to get a better idea of the history of the site. We could easily set up a lore submission for a wiki similar to the codex allowing the Wiki team some control over the information. That control is needed in my opinion so we don't bloat the wiki with nonsense information.

Yeah, I feel that. Control is going to be important in this and the guys doing it are going to have to be stupidly picky on what they choose to put on the wiki so I assume those chosen are going to need to be somewhat responsible. Control is important, if things get posted that shouldn't be the delete button has to be used. Overall, wiki's make sense because yeah, visibility and new people.

[member="Kei Raxis"] A good idea but I feel it's too much work for it to be an effective tool, especially for many of us juggling RL as well as time here.

We'd need so much information on all characters, planets, Factions, starships, weapons, technology. I don't think it could reach the level we need.

Mr Negative here is willing to be proven wrong however! :D

It wouldn't be everything. Not every character, planet or anything. Any planet that's see a major incident that may affect people who RP there (the list of planets the Sith (kaine) have wiped out, the population of atch-to and whatever else) as well as like the major 50 or so characters and then we just add a few others every so often.

And starships, weapons and technolgy won't be added unless it was used in a staff event (Omega).

[member="Kei Raxis"] I see, so like a Wiki for the Timeline, so to speak for more information on who/what was involved? That could work.

[member="Stephanie Swail"]

Much like the work of [member="FN-6767"]. It'll have the major conflicts and the battles that occured during them (the threads) linked.

Omega will be added, Omega is cool. Probably any thread that affects 100% of the writers of chaos (the great galactic war I assume is a big one)

Chracters such as Kaine, Braxus, Thurion, Kyrel and probably Kay will all be added and anyone else who's work affected more than 75% of the chaos population

Planets such as Tatooine and Korriban will be added. Tatooine because of the work that's been but into it, Korriban because there was a major event that affects how people RP there.

And also just a sum up of every year *shrug*

That is a great idea! I've thought for a long time that we needed a way to chronicle the history of the site so people can easily and reliably make reference to the past (Like Omega Pyre, what happened to those guys? GA took over their place on the galaxy map a couple years back). A Wiki would be perfect for that! I think in regards to control, you could have members submit wiki pages in a similar way to factory posts and wiki admins could check them and approve them once they met the sites standards.

Teeth grinding to pull off, but everyone needs a hobby. If there are folks willing to do it, there's no harm in gathering them together and letting them have at it. If the admin want to lend one of their own or an RPJ to oversee the task that's great, but you don't really need them to get a team together. Just ask for volunteers and see who bites.

Perhaps instead of a wiki, a fortnightly/monthly summary (depends on whats going on), of the main things that have happened. To allow for a majority of the information newcomers need, without going through the additional work of a huge wiki, and without destroying the RP. A much more manageable compromise me thinks :)

Note: this is coming from someone who attempted to make a wiki about a year ago... ;) it's somewhat fun to read, source and learn but incredibly hard work and impossible with fewer members, especially with other commitments such as life.

I'd just like to point out that there is nothing stopping anybody from going out and doing all these awesome things yourself. Wikis, workshops, monthly summaries, blog magazine covers, etc. By all means, go forth and do it. Grab some people and just make this stuff happen. We don't need the Staff Team's help to do any of these things anyway. :p
