Description:
Holocrons have been a great source of knowledge and connection with the past for many thousands of years. For the Jedi they are a primary method of passing down skills and advice to new generations. Some holocrons are vast and intricate, whilst others are more personal and private affairs. Phylis herself created a holocron a few years before, but that was only a trial for what was to come.
Phylis Alince is the foremost pioneer of the art of Light Alchemy, also known as Alkahest. As the Force is a dualist state, if Sith can use the Dark Side for Alchemy, so can Jedi use the Light Side for Alkahest. Though she is by no means capable of some feats of Alchemy, her discoveries and knowledge are quite astonishing. Thus, to preserve it were anything to happen to her, she decided to create a new holocron capable of storing this and updated knowledge from her previous effort.
Working together with her friend and fellow Jedi Master, Coryth Elaris, Phylis planned for the holocron to contain the other Master’s work as well. Coryth is a foremost user of Force healing in the galaxy, and is extremely skilled with empathy and illusions. With the galaxy in such a sad state, it was important for these skills to be preserved, and Phylis was also happier having a fellow Jedi to work with in creating this.
The holocron itself is contructed of Alkahest durasteel plates. This makes it quite heavy to hold one hand, but for durability there is nothing better. Like Alchemised metal, the holocron’s exterior is immune to lightsabre strikes, and strongly resists almost all exterior damage. Only catastrophic damage on the order of submersion in molten metal would damage the exterior. The insides of the holocron are likewise protected, though to a lesser degree. The storage crystals have been Alchemised, but the inner workings are of regular durasteel. However, since prying the box open is now almost impossible, the holocron is extremely durable.
The holocron exudes a very strong Light Side aura noticeable to any Force user. A Dark Side adept holding it or being near to it will likely feel uncomfortable, just as Jedi are usually in the presence of Sith Alchemical items.
As with all proper holocrons, the Chronicle features a gatekeeper, or rather two of them. Both Phylis and Coryth have imprinted themselves on the holocron and the two of them protect access to their own areas. They also talk to the user, having absorbed the personality of their hosts with sometimes amusing results – Holo-Phylis for instance tends to go off on tangents.
In order to protect sensitive information both from Dark Siders and from unready Padawans, the holocron is capable of sensing the alignment of the user and determining by means such as age, clothing and answers to questions their suitability. A strong Dark Sider could hide their aura and exert a false Light Side presence in order to gain access, in theory.
The holocron is secured from tampering, but Phylis or Coryth are able to make additions or corrections to material. The holocron is keyed to their specific being, meaning only they can make updates.
Phylis’s part of the holocron contains updated material from her previous creation as well as new sections. These include:
[*](From here, information is mainly from her former holocron, updated and expanded for the new era.)
[*]Instruction and philosophy of Form III (Soresu) lightsabre combat. As one of the (if not the) most proficient exponents of this form in the galaxy, Phylis has a lot to teach about this. Contained is detailed background, philosophical discussion, instructions on positions and movements, and warnings of what to avoid.
[*]Instruction and discussion on the merits of Force barriers and shields. She goes into considerable detail about the abilities which can create these barriers, how to maintain them, and what their limits are. Also included is a mis-indexed discussion on the nature of Sith burial obelisks. This is still wrong in the new holocron, potentially on purpose.
[*]Discussion and application of telekinesis for a Jedi. Whilst by no means the greatest in this art, she is extremely proficient nonetheless and her observations and suggestions are quite incisive, especially after learning some things from her friend Siobhan Kerrigan.
[*]Instruction and creation of lightsabres, with special emphasis on choosing the correct crystal and ensuring it is properly seated.
[*]Theory and suggestions on interpreting Force visions and foretelling in general. Though not able to use the Force at will for such things, she has had precognitive visions in the past, and offers a studious guide on how to interpret them without being beholden to them.
[*]Discussion and instruction on the use of mind-tricks, how to defend against them, and using the Force to influence others. Also included is information on how to protect one’s mind from mentalists.
[*]Discussion and information on imbued items, Sith artefacts and other enchanted items.
Also included are as much of her historical data as she can fit into the device. This is not Force based in nature and is less restricted. Given the loss of knowledge over the 400 Year Darkness, Phylis wishes to maintain as much knowledge as possible.
Unfortunately for those who wish to escape all memory of it, ‘Levitation in the Pre-Tythonian Era’ makes an appearance, and the gatekeeper is unusually eager to begin lecturing on it. User discretion is advised!
Coryth’s side of the holocron focuses mostly on healing, empathy and illusions. Not all of it is Force based however. There is information about healing techniques without the force, from battlefield medicine, to basic surgical techniques, to even what eases an upset stomach.
In summary, the Chronicle of Light is an advanced holocron containing information from two skilled Jedi Masters. However, it does not go beyond what already exists in the galaxy and cannot be used as a weapon.
