SETTING INFORMATION
- Military Base Name: Ifradel
- Classification: Metropolis/City-Country
- Location: Confracta
- Affiliation: The City Of Ifradel (The 'official' name of the nation) | The Second Triumvirate
- Population: (Note: These numbers are so high because this 'city' covers the area of a state, roughly, comparable to the size of Texas IRL.)
General Population (Non-military, Ifradeli): 550,000 - General Population (Non-military, misc.): 10,000
- Serving Population (Military, Ifradeli): 3,000
- Serving Population (Military, misc. [Triumvirate]): 8,000
[*]Accessibility: You'd have to be blind to miss Ifradel from the sky. It covers an absolutely improbable amount of territory with rolling fields and packed city streets and everything in-between behind high Steelstone walls. To enter the city on foot you must find one of the four gates around the Lower Ring or land in a docking port in the Middle Ring.
[*]Description: Ifradel is an incredibly large city, taking its name from the species of sentient bioluminescents who live there and who originally built it. It is split between three rings each outlined by tall Steelstone walls, with everything from residential to agricultural to governmental functions of the City Of Ifradel (The nation) behind their ancient safe-haven. Most outsiders are overwhelmed upon arriving to Ifradel simply due to the ridiculous size of the city-country.
POINTS OF INTEREST
- Upper Ring: The 'highest' walled portion of Ifradel is called the Upper Ring. The seat of Ifradeli power, the Opaline Palace, is found here, alongside the majority of governmental and upper-class establishments.
Opaline Palace: Situated in the exact centre of the entirety of Ifradel is the Opaline Palace. Originally known as the Royal Palace of Ifradel back when Ifradel still had a King/Queen, it was renamed the 'Opaline Palace' when the old ways of ruling were disposed and the High Throne was established.
- IAANS Headquarters: The HQ of the Ifradeli Armed And Naval Services (Shortened to IAANS [Eye-Ans] colloquially) is located in the Upper Ring and is the hub of military activity for the entirety of the City Of Ifradel. It is also the only 'public' place in the Upper Ring to have a hanger/loading bay. IAANS is a branch of the Triumvirate military itself but is entirely dedicated to the city-country.
- Triumvirate Embassy: In order to facilitate communication between the Second Triumvirate and the government of Ifradel properly, an embassy that is 100% dedicated to the Triumvirate is located in the Upper Ring, near the Opaline Palace, so the High Prince/Princess may have constant access to Triumvirate resources.
[*]Middle Ring: Dedicated mainly to population management, the Middle Ring of Ifradel is a tightly-packed city. Sandwiched between the farming lands of the Lower Ring and the rich folk of the Upper Ring, if you're from Ifradel, chances are you came from here if you weren't from an impoverished family.
- Ifradel Spaceport: A spaceport is located here for intergalactic commerce, with hangers for long-term ship storage and access to underground storage for stock to be sold.
[*]Lower Ring: Almost entirely farmland, the Lower Ring of Ifradel is fields and small farming communities, rife with low-income housing and low-paying jobs. This is also, ironically, the first place a visitor to Ifradel who travels on foot will see, as the Lower Ring is the point of access for the entire city-country.
- Isenberg: The largest farming congregation in the Lower Ring is Isenberg, often called the town within a city. It's not actually that big, only a few houses and a bar (So not actually a town, more like 5 buildings thrown together with a name slapped on it by the locals), but it's the largest pack of places to go in the Lower Ring and is a destination for residents as a result.
'The Maze Runner': A skeevy pub. Watch your wallet in here, who knows might have sticky fingers tonight...
[*]Ifradel Docks: Traditional water-based docks. Mostly for fishermen to sell and harvest their wares, and is very close to the Sibyl Gate.
[*]Sibyl Gate: The northmost gate of the Lower Ring, the Sibyl Gate is the least defended of the four as it opens directly onto seaside docks, but is still garrisoned by both Triumvirate soldiers and Ifradel's own military presence.
[*]Sittella Gate: The easternmost gate of the Lower Ring, the Sittella Gate is more defended than the Sibyl Gate and opens onto marshy land, again protected by both Triumvirate Soldiers and Ifradel's own men. It is frequented by hunters who often chase down game in the marshes directly outside of Ifradel.
[*]Sisphy Gate: The southernmost gate of the Lower Ring, the Sisphy Gate is roughly the same defense level as the Sibyl Gate, manned by the same, and is often used for travellers.
[*]Sigi Gate: The westernmost gate of the Lower Ring, the Sigi Gate is the most protected of the four gates due to it being the one that opens on a route that leads right to the Banded Forge, Confracta's immense shipyards. Commerce, therefore, comes through here.
[*]The Underworld: Ifradeli emerged from these primordial caverns hundreds of thousands of years ago, this is the site where they evolved from bioluminescent bacteria into the sentients they are today. It is viewed both as a site of spiritual significance and has many other uses to it, such as storage or mining. You require permission from the High Throne personally to use the Underworld for such things, though. In the event of a siege, the populace would flee here, as they did during the spread of the Gulag plague.
[*]The Naxx River: Named for a now-defunct house of Ifradel, the Naxx river runs the length of the entire city -- Which is to say that it is long. Mainly used for leisure or transport, swift ships can often be seen ferrying people between the rings.
SECURITY
Ifradel has a security rating of High. It is a city-country and is the base of a Triumvirate head, which means it is extremely well protected -- Though not impregnable. Whilst there is a respectable member of both Triumvirate soldiers and local soldiers to protect the city at any given time, two-thirds not protected from the air except with AA weaponry.
- Ray Shielding (Upper Ring): Only the Upper Ring has an 'activate-in-case-of-emergencies' Ray shield with its own generators. Those in the Middle and Lower Rings must rely on gun emplacements to protect them.
- Turbolaser Emplacements: The Upper Ring has a total of 60 dual-current Turbolaser emplacements, the Middle Ring having 200 and the Lower Ring having 600. They operate as Anti-Aircraft defenses but those in the Upper Ring are rendered mostly inoperable when the Ray Shield is up due to being unable to fire out of it.
- Infantry Garrison: The absolute majority of Ifradel's military population is garrisoned in the city itself, manning the Steelstone walls and protecting the populace as both Law Enforcement & Military.
Nobody can be entirely sure when Ifradel was constructed, or even when it finished construction. It is, at the very least, millennia old, constructed possibly even before the Old Republic's time. It began once the Ifradeli, it's namesake's species, emerged from the massive caverns located directly under the territory that the city spans today, and was completed sometime during 9264 BBY, if carbon-dating has anything to say about it.
The city has always been home of the Ifradeli, and one played host to 5 noble families, who would pass the ruling of Ifradel from one heir to another. This was how Ifradeli was ruled for thousands of years, until a coup in 3701 BBY involving the oldest noble family, Vacaryn, and House Valeport of the Cerevessian Republic, another nation of Confracta, staged a coup and installed Vacaryn as the High Family. With the High Throne established, the 'round robin' style of rule was forgotten and an absolute monarchy was established in the city, with a line of Vacaryn High Princes and Princesses that has continued to this day. Following this, the first Triumvirate was formed, and peace reigned once more for a number of years.
The Gulag plague ravaged both Ifradel and it's people especially hard. This city is very full of people who are vulnerable to illness, and due to the close-quarters living style the spread was laughably easy. Millions died in days, the populace that survived only did so by hiding out in the Underground. Ifradel's population would spend the next 400 years underground, recovering and mourning and planting Maze among the dead that they had collected. Despite their fragile constitutions they would eventually build an immunity to the disease, their Vacaryn leader leading them out of their chambers to their abandoned city, overrun with wildlife, to recover.
It would take years of hard work to rebuild, but it wasn't impossible, though the population numbers have yet to swell to what they were in the oldd ays. Reconnecting with their allies in the Cerevessian Republic and recalling the Illasian Aristocracy from the moon, Ifradel has managed to recover back to a state of civility and beauty, a city of evening lights. Ifradel would then become once more a head of the Triumvirate.
