The Cold Never Bothered Me Anyway

45650-Falling-Snow.gif
Snow had been falling from the sky for three consecutive days now. Both the surrounding trees and the outpost were covered in the cold flakes. Travelers never left without a heavy coat and cloak. According to the holonet, it was currently negative fifteen degrees outside. To most the weather was bothersome, and they quietly wished for it to change. So the sight of a nearly nine foot tall humanoid stomping through the ice in nothing more then thin leggings, a tank top, and a cloak was quite shocking. They couldn't identify the being due to the metal mask it wore. Locals would lean over and whisper to each other as the figure approached. For only those who had lived in the area for years would know who neared.
"Welcome back Hijiin. catch any good beasts?" One asked, reaching for his wallet. All he got in response was a large bag handed to him. The man nodded, looked inside, then handed the much larger creature some credits. "Nice to see you back. Now get yer ass inside and warm up." Quickly he gestured to the cantina entrance before moving to stand next to the door again. Hijiin stood still for a moment, likely considering its options. Then it ducked through the doorway, muttering a "The cold never bothered me anyway," as it went. Inhabitants of the bar visibly tensed as they saw the giant enter.
Just another day in the life of a monster.

Steamed beer. Oh, how I loved the wicked creation. Despite the fact that lack of heat didn't bother me, I enjoyed the sensation of a warm beverage after being out for so long. Of course the stares I received when they saw my scarred complexion were irritating... But I shrugged it off. It mattered not if they found me ugly, because I did to. I wasn't the perfect little Null girl anymore. Sith alchemy changes people- for both better and worse.
When my drink was finished, I slipped my mask back on and relaxed. There was a band playing in the corner, the soft music resounding through the compound. Soothing was the word to describe it... Even a monster can be put to rest. My senses calmed down, letting minor details slip past for a few minutes. And then things returned to normal. I watched suspicious people, keeping an eye out for those who may cause trouble. Hoth was my home. Though my family was long gone, I would still protect the planet.

Hoth? Lilith had really decided to visit possibly the coldest planet that has ever existed? Why did she never think with her head? Actually, she hadn't thought anything at all. So she had to look around. After she had landed, her ship's engine didn't start again. So she just looked around the place. She had never believed someone actually lives on Hoth. But now it seemed like everyone lived on Hoth. It was... strange...

Lilith decided to visit a cantina. It happened to be a bit warmer than the rest of the planet. Her ship hadn't told her the exact temperature, but it seemed like it was near the absolute zero. The best thing was, that she had a nice cloak with her. It kept her body warm. Her hands had almost turned into ice cubes, but the rest of her body was safe. Oh, yeah, her staff froze into her hand, so she couldn't get it off.

"One warm drink, please..." Lilith said with her corrupted, windy, echoing voice to the bartender. There were people in the cantina, so she decided to hide the staff... It was just too embarrassing.

Nodding the barkeep turned and started preparing a drink. Currently the place wasn't terribly busy. Most of the occupants were hunters or merchants looking to buy the better cuts of meat. Not many came to Hoth just to live there. Nearly a century earlier a group of Nulls, Rodians, and a few other species had come to the planet and built up settlements. Over the following years many of them left, while others continued to maintain the outposts. One such family had been the Hijiin family. However they disappeared in roughly 788 ABY... Only one member of the family is known to be alive today.
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Someone approached. Young- or at least younger then me. Female, and obviously not used to the planet's cold environment. Quickly the bartender was preparing her beverage, heating it up to a reasonable temperature. I had no doubt that it would be downed within seconds. Outsiders were how the cantina made its money. They drank more then those that were used to the freezing landscapes. For some reason it made me chuckle, a small smirk forming under my mask.
"Another drink, kind sir," I said, voice edging on a demand instead of a request. The man behind the counter tensed up, nodding to show he heard. Locals feared me, even those who had known or heard of my parents and sister. That happens when one has red eyes and is covered in scars... My hands clenched into fists as I thought of what the Sith had done to me. If he wasn't already dead, I'd hunt him down and tear out his throat before feeding it to the beasts of Hoth.
A cup, almost full, was placed before the newcomer. Prices were displayed on a board above the counter, all within reason. My last hunting trip had earned me more then enough to pay for a few drinks. It was simply a matter of how long the imbecile would take delivering them to me. This was only my second round and yet he was already slowed by his emotions. It took proximately fifteen seconds to long for him to hand me my glass. No tip for him today I guess.

Lilith looked at the bartender as he made a drink for her. She had heard it was possible to heat something up by using the Force, but she hadn't learned, how to do it. So that's why she didn't like not having a master. A master could've taught her many really important things. But Jedi didn't believe she was strong enough to do anything. Yes... They hadn't believed in her. She hated them. Even though she had liked the Jedi ways, she hadn't liked their teaching methods. She hadn't liked their beliefs. She hadn't liked... them.

The bartender gave her her drink. It had been fast... She took a sip of her drink. And it was really good. She didn't even care, what kind of drink it was. It was just good... and warm.

(sorry for the short post...)

As expected, it appeared the outsider enjoyed the drink. Part of me was surprised she didn't quickly gulp the rest down. Which meant she had more self control then some of the others that came here. Interesting... And there was something else about her. Something that made her stand out, and drew me towards her. The force, perhaps? Ever since the Sith experimented on me, my connection to the mysterious power had been strengthened. Sensing other force users could be a gift I had gained... Or maybe the girl was simply a stark change from the predominately male population of the city. Probably the latter.
Having received my drink, I removed my mask once more. It took a moment, and I tensed as I completed the action. Others would stare again. If only the Alchemy hadn't warped my appearence... Red eyes weren't exactly considered normal. Nor were scars and burn marks... No Krag, stop thinking about that. Squinting my eyes I took a sip of the drink, letting the warm liquid slide down my throat. Then I turned to my right, gaze lingering on the newcomer. Quickly I looked away, fearing that I would scare her.

Oh how I hated being a monster.

While drinking her drink, Lilith thought about everything... She remembered morning... and the past... and thought about her future. Hoth was indeed a really cold planet. She wasn't very sure, why she decided to come here... She knew, that the planet is cold, and that there might not be many other Force-sensitive people. But still something had pulled her towards the planet. She took a sip of her drink and sighed. She was slowly getting warmer. And the staff wasn't stuck in her hand anymore. So she slowly started feeling a bit better.

Then she turned to the cantina. And she saw a huge being. It was honestly... huge. Like a giant or something. But she saw the being taking off the mask he or she (she wasn't sure yet, which gender the being is) wore to cover the face. And she saw, that the being was not very beautiful. But she understood the being is a woman. That was the only thing she was sure about now. She looked at the being and felt empathy towards her. Her face was really mutated. It had scars, it was burned... But she noticed one thing: that her eyes were red. Well, she could be a Darksider... Lilith thought, though she didn't believe it very well...

So she decided to go closer to the giant. And she said: "Hi! How are you?" She tried to sound as friendly as possible, but it probably didn't succeed... Because her voice was windy again. She sounded like a ghost... Like a really evil ghost, who wants to kill you or torture you until the end of your life and even beyond... It doesn't seem very friendly, right?

A hand had just raised a glass to the giant's lips as the young force user approached. While the liquid was drained she seemed to pay no attention to the newcomer, simply focused on downing the drink. Once that task was accomplished she turned, inspecting the girl in front of her. Her voice had been windy, soft. Some would assume she was sick, or thee... unpleasant type of person. Kraigmiir was not one of those few. This was Hoth. One of the coldest habitable planets in existence. Outsiders often did not fare well, and when they came inside, it took awhile to recover from the frost. This lass was likely no different.
But the fact that the large being's scars and red eyes didn't seem to faze her was... odd, to say the least. Most at least flinched or avoiding eye contact. Even those that knew Krag well seemed to find her flaws distracting. Realizing that this lass was unperturbed made the Null smile, her semi-sharp teeth being revealed in the process. "I am well. The snow has made the beasts restless and desperate. The hunt proved bountiful today. Our colony will eat well this week, even without outsiders assistance. Now, I believe the polite response for me is to ask how you, wee little lass, are doing yourself," she said, tipping her head to the side. Her basic was rough, and heavily accented. The language sounded... strange when spoken by her, and might be hard to understand for one not used to her speech patterns.

The giant was in fact huge. Lilith was still quite amazed. And surprised. She had never met any being like that one. But now she learned a new thing about species of the Galaxy. And it made the day good. Actually, she really liked being on Hoth now. She had just met another person who didn't look like a possible threat. She was already tired of seeing Jedi or other Lightsiders everywhere. It was just depressing. But it looked like this one was better than the people she normally met. And it was another good thing.

Lilith isn't a very strong Force-user, so she didn't know if the giant was Force-sensitive or not, but she didn't feel anything really bad about her, so she assumed everything was alright.

"I am well. The snow has made the beasts restless and desperate. The hunt proved bountiful today. Our colony will eat well this week, even without outsiders assistance. Now, I believe the polite response for me is to ask how you, wee little lass, are doing yourself," the woman had said. Lilith didn't know what to say to keep things as polite as they had been so long. There were many reasons for that. First, she had never learned to be really polite. Although she had spent her childhood on Coruscant, which was the capital of the Republic and a really formal city, she had always been a middle- or even low-class citizen.

"I'm fine, thank you!" Lilith decided to say. the second reason was, like mentioned before, the fact, that she had never seen a person so tall. She didn't know how to act near them. She didn't know anything about them.

"So I guess you had a really good day, then..." she continued with her strange voice. And actually the giant had a rather disturbing voice too, but Lilith tried to understand her. The way how the person spoke was kind of different from the way she was use to. And, of course, she had a strange accent which Lilith couldn't determine.
