The Core for the Core Worlds (Discussion)

New space on the map always gets my world-building juices going. But, I'm not really here to do an "interest check" just had a curious idea wanted to see what people would think about the course of the future to come in terms galactic power politics.

To my mind, IC'ly, the Core worlds has been under the dominance of FU associated regimes since the Grand Republic and over the decades every war fought in the core world was between FU associated regimes, and much of the utter chaos, death and subjugation that the normal folk of the core worlds had to face came from these FU associated regimes.

So wouldn't it be neat to RP that historical baggage? How would citizens of the Core Worlds react to FO, GA and Silver Jedi all making strides around the core?

I'd like to think they are crying out for a regime that has no FU association, a regime that is run by the politicians of the Core Worlds and is banded together by the ideals of governance and shared military protection, as a furious counter-reaction to the FU rulers of past. I'd imagine it like the Greek City States banding together to create a league, or something a kin to the Holy Roman Empire or Kievan-Rus. Warlords/Rulers of the Core Worlds coming together and electing a Ruler-By-Elector to govern for a term while the warlords move out and secure more members to their League or Federation. And to have a Representative Parliament, not a Senate, at its core. Give it a sort of Roman Republic vibe.

It'd be a cool twist to see regular folk of the Core Worlds unite and take their own destiny in their own hands.

What do you think will become of the Core Worlds? How would RP the Core World's citizen's historical baggage?

I'd love to see more minor major factions (does that sound right?) inhabiting the core worlds. Having one gigantic faction owning the whole space gets pretty boring, especially as I see most of the major factions ignoring their internal stories for more external ones. If that's the flavor of RP on Chaos, then more, smaller major factions should be the preference.

I really don't understand the anti-FU sentiment any more than those who put down or marginalize NFU. It takes both kinds to make the Star Wars universe tick. But Jedi/Sith are what Star Wars is about, the Force is what makes it what it is... Removing it is just... Silly...

Plus, look at your average citizen in todays world. Hard to imagine they are any better informed or less lazy in the future. They likely don't give two deci credits.

I'd think the Core worlds would be more worried about recovering than trying to come together and create an empire. While Empress Teta was left untouched, for the most part, following the invasion of Coruscant, most of the remaining Core worlds had to deal with an absurd scorched earth policy.

Now, sure, many of the planets in the core would be weary of new major faction influence, probably keen on being left alone, but I doubt the other core worlds would be banding together. If the Galactic Alliance could drive a stake through the heart of the One Sith, who's to say they couldn't simply stomp out any dissent in the core?

I'm not too sure about planetary governments of places like Byss or Prakith, but Empress Teta and Coruscant especially would have little reason to side with a few hundred planets against a galaxy-spanning entity unless they were completely certain they wouldn't face certain defeat.

Self-preservation and all that.

I wasn't referring to OOC reasons. I mean IC'ly it would seem like a natural reactionary force compared to factions that once ruled over it.

Strictly going by IC history, I can see the Core Worlds being either a loose league or a warring states kinda orientation - with little inclination for FU theocratic associations.

Lol, incidentally my idea of a Federation of Core Worlds, I'd have put Teta as the Athens of the whole organisation. :p

I think at the exact moment the Core Worlds would be in chaos...They just lost their voices of governments. Independent planets would be waiting for words coming from areas they were so used to hearing them from. Governors would be blockading news of the Sith Collapse, or the Republic retreat.

All in all a state of turmoil that is prime for roleplaying and independent thought.

Seems as probable and realistic as any other seachange in Star Wars politics. Seems as viable as a lot of the Major Faction concepts we've seen. Doesn't really do it for me personally, but there's nothing really wrong with the idea in a Star Wars context, or a political one.

What I want to see, given the number of shipyards and financial/economic worlds, etc, in the area, is a sort of corporatocracy, high on corporate social responsibility. A sort of zone where the worlds within are made prosperous if they aren't already, and companies that operate on each world are encouraged (for lower tiers) or expected (for higher tiers) to contribute to those worlds, and the zone as a whole.

Hiring is primarily done in-zone. So on and so forth.

Now, my suggestions, re: Force Users...

Force users/sensitives could be subject to declaration of their status upon entering the zone. The presence of force sects is, however, subject to planetary and zone laws. I don't imagine that sacrificial practices, or experimentation on living beings would be allowed, as a thought, and would carry heavy consequences.

Perhaps FUs would be barred from zone council, and planetary government positions? Who knows.

I figure when you take into account that you have most of the largest, most populous, and wealthiest systems in the Core and Colonies, and given the rather sudden breakdown of any sort of unifying bonds, you're most likely to end up with something resembling medieval Italy. A bunch of individually stable 'city states' (system-states?) with a common heritage of sorts (all were once part of either the Imperial or Republic system, if not both). Sure they may band together in times of crises but normally they're all jockying for power and prestige and a little bit more than their neighbor.

Not the grandest image I suppose, but no one has ever accused humanity (and the various nose-ridge aliens that make up Star Wars) of being farsighted.

Of course the burden at this point is to get players who actually have a minor major faction concept and start it up. There was a brief discussion during the talks that led to the OS going minor of how cool it would be to get people to create all their little Sith offshoot factions and such and run with it and see who comes out on top. Alas, that's difficult to manage in EU4, much less a forum RP.

Yeah, I write a concerned ruler who gave in to the Alliance the moment they defeated The One Sith on Coruscant. If she had reason to believe that this was better and safer for the people in the Empress Teta System, or if people protest their membership with the Alliance en masse, she could be persuaded otherwise.

I'm sure that the rest of the core worlds have it harder, I've just done an ample job of trying my best to do what is better for the people, IC, than what political groups in Tetan nobility might want.

On one hand the Commonwealth is all about being highly independent without FU's and in some social circles of the Commonwealth FU's are outright shunned like a witch hunt. This would appeal to the Core members who feel FU's have been a reason for war, but alternatively the Commonwealth is strictly a military government, which is half the reason for the wars in the Core. FU's haven't acted alone, they have been backed by militaries.

I think the Core would be more interested in financial and social security. Strike out as a group and face the threat of being deemed an enemy by much larger empires, keep to themselves and they're more likely to earn allies willing to help them rebuild.
