SETTING INFORMATION

  • Structure Name: Coruscant Biodome
  • Classification: Man-made biodome
  • Location: Coruscant - New Jedi Temple
  • Affiliation: The Galactic Alliance/New Jedi Order
  • Accessibility: While the structure is publicly visible, it is only accessible through the temple itself. Only Jedi and approved personnel are permitted inside, and only Jedi with special clearance can access certain restricted areas.
  • Description: The Coruscant Biodome is a large, geodesic dome-shaped building attached to the Coruscant Jedi temple. This building is home to many species of flora (and some fauna) collected from all over the galaxy, which exist within a self-contained, self-sustaining, man-made environment. The biodome is divided into multiple sections, each dedicated to the specific needs of a particular ecosystem.
POINTS OF INTEREST

Biomes - In order to meet the needs of the various types of flora it houses, the Coruscant Biodome contains a host of different biomes. These includes, but are not limited to, deserts, grasslands, forests, tundras, shrublands, and rainforests. Each new specimen is evaluated upon arrival, during which it is sorted into the biome that will best suit its needs. If the specimen has any particularly dangerous properties, or cannot survive in one of the available biomes, it will be isolated into an area where it can be properly (and safely) cared for.

Organic Archive - Each sample is catalogued regarding its appearance, habitat, and various properties. This information is stored in the organic archive, which is accessible to all Jedi. The restricted section of the archive, which contains sensitive information, can only be accessed by Jedi with authorization.

Seed Vaults - These vaults contain duplicate seeds for each species of flora that occupies the biodome. The seed vaults are under heavy surveillance and guarded by security droids or other personnel. Restricted to authorized personnel only.

Meditation Garden - On the first floor of the biome is a meditation garden accessible to all Jedi. This garden is beautifully maintained, and provides a peaceful, tranquil location for Jedi to meditate and reflect. Bota flowers, which have been said to strengthen a Jedi's connection to the Force, are planted here.

SECURITY
High
- Though all Jedi have access to the biodome, areas that house sensitive information or particularly dangerous plants are off limits to those who do not have proper clearance.

HISTORICAL INFORMATION
Established by Jedi Corazona von Ascania Corazona von Ascania , Ko Vuto , Colette , and Everest Vale the Coruscant Biodome was constructed to collect, study, and preserve various species of flora, and to educate Jedi about the types of plant life they may encounter in their work. This building is a self-contained, controlled environment that simulates natural ecosystems in an artificial setting.

Attached to The Room of a Thousand Fountains at the Jedi temple on Coruscant, the biodome is accessible to all Jedi. Occasionally, members of the public - such as professional horticulturists and university students - are permitted to visit under supervision.

Each biome has been carefully constructed to simulate the ecosystem it is modeled after. Because some of these environments are extreme (blistering deserts, icy tundras, etc.), they are sometimes used to train a Jedi's resilience against the elements. Most of the biomes are accessible to all Jedi, though some of the smaller, more particular biomes containing rare or dangerous life are restricted. Certain fauna, when deemed necessary to the balance of an ecosystem, are introduced. Caretakers of these biomes are often Jedi with an affinity for nature, though some are assigned to the biodome as a form of punishment.

All visitors, Jedi or civilian, are cautioned to treat the plants and animals within the biodome with respect. Failure to do so will result in immediate disciplinary action.

In addition to various biomes, the biodome also contains an 'organic archive', or catalogue of information regarding a particular species of plant. The biodome also houses a seed vault, which contains duplicates for all seeds. When a planet's ecosystem is disrupted due to galactic war or natural events, the seed vault comes in handy in restoring the native flora.
