Valery stood at the edge of a vast field of tall grass, the gentle breeze causing the blades to sway and ripple like waves across the landscape. The late afternoon sun bathed the plains of Dantooine in a warm, golden light, casting long shadows that danced with the movement of the grass. It was a serene and beautiful sight, yet Valery's gaze was distant, her thoughts momentarily tethered to the past.

The last time she had stood here, in this very spot, the scene had been far different. Her mind replayed fragments of that memory, flashes of emotion that still lingered in the depths of her heart.
She could almost hear the echoes of that day in the rustle of the wind, but with a slow breath, Valery pushed the memories back, locking them away where they couldn't interfere with the present.

This day was not about the past.

Turning away from the horizon, Valery allowed her gaze to settle on the young woman standing beside her. Anneliese, her Padawan, radiated a mix of curiosity and excitement. The journey they were on was one of great importance, a rite of passage for any Jedi. The crystal that would soon become the heart of Anneliese's lightsaber awaited them, hidden deep within Dantooine's caves. But first, there was something Valery wanted her to see — the ruins of the old Dantooine Temple.

"It's a special place," Valery began, her voice soft but steady as she addressed her Padawan. "The temple we're about to visit has a long history. It was a sanctuary for Jedi long before the wars came, and though it now lies in ruins, it still holds a connection to the Force that is… profound." She offered Anneliese a reassuring smile, pushing aside her own lingering emotions. "I want you to feel that connection before we go to the caves. It will help guide you when the time comes to choose your crystal."

It felt unreal -- it felt like a dream. Here she was -- standing by her Master's side, fixing to go into a dark cave to find her lightsaber crystal... and then build the friggin thing! It wasn't a dream -- rather a dream come true. So many time's she'd seen other Padawans, who'd just been appointed and chosen as apprentice with their new lightsabers, while she'd kept her training saber... and what it more special? Valery was the one she was doing it with.

Looking over the plains her eyes came to the ruins of the enclave off in the distance, a pit forming in her stomach. This planet was steeped with the living force -- and she could feel it -- you'd have to be force dead not to feel it. Then there was the history behind it -- it was rich with history that dated centuries back -- and then to top it all off -- the prospect of getting to explore the ruins before going to get her crystal? She was doing her best to contain her exuberance -- it was an experience like no other.

Looking at Val as she talked, she nodded her head. Despite her 'puppy' like excitement, Anneliese was beginning to recognizing when she needed to dial things back and mentally bring herself down a few pegs. Waiting for Val to finish, her soft voice broke the short silence. "I am honored to have been brought here to find my crystal -- and I am beside myself that we get to see the Ruins of the Enclave. I've heard about them since I was a youngling during our History classes -- but to get to stand by them, in them? Thank you Master -- I will do my best to remain sensitive and open to the ebb and flow of the force as we make our way through them and towards the caves." The words were sincere -- and standing there, a new air of confidence seemed to be about the young girl. She'd been hard at her independent studies, working to hone not just her mind, but her body as well. She was ready for this trail -- and she knew that's exactly what it would be... she'd heard the stories from other apprentices, about the things they had seen when going to collect their crystal. Pushing past the fear that tried to creep up in the face of the unknown, she took a deep breath... today would be a day she'd remember for the rest of her life.

Valery's heart swelled with pride as she listened to Anneliese's response. The young Padawan's excitement was palpable, but so was her growing maturity and readiness for the journey ahead. It was moments like these that reminded Valery of the importance of her role — not just as a teacher but as a guide for those stepping into the future of the Jedi Order. Anneliese's sincerity and determination were exactly what Valery hoped to see in her students, and it filled her with confidence in the path they were about to walk together.

"You're more than ready for this, Anneliese," Valery said with a warm smile, placing a reassuring hand on her Padawan's shoulder. "Remember, the Force will guide you, but it's your heart and your connection to it that will help you find the crystal meant for you. Trust in yourself, as much as you trust in the Force."

She let her words hang in the air for a moment, allowing Anneliese to absorb them fully. Valery then turned her gaze toward the distant ruins, the ancient stone structures standing as silent witnesses to centuries of Jedi history. The weight of the past was heavy here, but so was the presence of the Force, a comforting and steadying influence that Valery knew would be crucial for Anneliese as she took this important step.

"Come," Valery said softly, beginning to lead the way across the field toward the ruins. "The Enclave may be in ruins, but it still holds many lessons. Let the Force speak to you as we walk through its halls, and let those lessons guide you when we reach the caves."

As Valery spoke to her, there was something surreal about knowing in the caves here, was a crystal that would call to her, and her only -- and knowing that made it all the more special. To top things off, hearing the confidence Val had in her, knowing she would obtain it, made it all worth it to her -- her approval meant the world to her, because it wasn't things that made her happy -- it was the people she'd been blessed to have in it

Anneliese nodded once Master Noble had finished speaking to her regarding the lessons the Enclave still had to offer, following behind Valery, side by side the both of them working their way across the plains. In the distance, she could hear the sounds of the Kath-Hounds, their packs howling and growling. Their footsteps made soft 'crunch', their steps in sync with one another as she scanned the fields, looking at the tree's that where sporadically placed, their gnarled roots and trunks twisting up and towards the sky. Her hands came out as she pivoted backwards, basking in the warmth of the sun -- a content smile across her freckled face.

The walk across the plains hadn't been bad, just quiet... and before she knew it, they stood in front of a stone bridge, the ruins just across the other side. Walking up and to the middle of the bridge, looking small in aspect compared to the ruins, she marveled in the beauty that she saw. Standing on this bridge, here -- where several prominent figures before her stood hundreds of years prior. Walking closer, her hand extending out she touched the stone guard railing... running her hands over the weathered stone -- a pit formed in her stomach. Looking back to Valery, she spoke, a look of both reverence and admiration on her smile. "Its... amazing. We are standing, exactly where countless other Jedi stood... hundreds of years ago. I... I feel them Master... its faint, but its, its like an echo." Her enthusiasm was prominent as she spoke to Valery, her eyes moving back as she took a few more cautious steps across the stone bridge, inching closer to the ruins.... and it was the truth, something was pulling, tugging, calling to her.

"Thousands of years," Valery said with a soft chuckle, her voice blending with the gentle breeze that stirred the tall grass around them. "Countless Jedi once walked across this bridge to study, train, and rest within the sacred halls of this Temple. They communed with the Force here, their presence still lingering in the very stones." Her fiery gaze swept over the ancient structure ahead, its timeworn walls crumbling and overtaken by nature. Vines snaked their way up the stone, and patches of moss spread over what remained of the once-grand Temple.

As they crossed the narrow stone bridge, a faint echo of footsteps long since past seemed to ripple through the Force. Valery could feel it — a deep, ancient pulse that resonated with the energy of the countless Jedi who had come before. She glanced over at Anneliese, the breeze catching her Padawan's hair, and smiled. "Countless Jedi ventured into the caves before you," she continued, her voice steady. "All to seek the crystal that would become the heart of their lightsaber. It is the most important tool and weapon a Jedi can wield."

Now, as they stepped deeper into the ruins, the overgrown corridors opened up before them, revealing glimpses of what had once been a place of great beauty and strength. Stone archways, now cracked and weathered, stood like silent sentinels. Patches of blue and violet flowers peeked through the broken floor, nature reclaiming what time had worn down. Faint, whispering echoes of the past lingered in the air, carrying memories of lessons once taught and meditations held in the quiet sanctuary of the Temple.

"While I have full faith in you," Valery said, her eyes flicking around the remnants of the grand chamber, "I want you to understand that the caves will test you. Every Jedi's path inside is unique, and the trials within can often be as challenging as they are revealing."

She paused, glancing at the entrance to the caves, where the shadows seemed to deepen, a quiet stillness emanating from within. It reminded Valery of her own trials long ago — both the triumph and the scars they left behind, a testament to the journey every Jedi must walk.

"I can't tell you exactly what your trial will be like," she continued, her tone soft yet steady, "But if you have any questions, now is the time to ask them. Once we enter, it will be just you and the Force." Valery's gaze lingered on her Padawan with a quiet sense of pride and anticipation, waiting to see what Anneliese would choose to ask or if she was already prepared to take the first step into the unknown.

As Anneliese followed automatically behind Valery like a duckling, all the while her curious and awe-filled eyes taking in her surroundings. Like all things, time had reclaimed the Enclave to itself... but, it wasn't the end -- no, merely a new beginning, a new phase of its life in the Force. As she walked, listening to the ripples of wind that blew against the structure, she could hear faint whispers in the force that resonated in the area that just lingered on the edge of her senses. As Valery stopped and spoke on the heart of the lightsaber, Anneliese couldn't help but to grin from ear to ear thinking what crystal awaited her within the cave, what would choose to become the heart of her lightsaber.

Walking now into the Enclave and down the corridors, Anneliese couldn't help but feel a sense of wonder -- the light from the sun filtered into through the cracks of the walls, landing delicately on the flowers and vines that intricately weaved and covered the walls and floors. Walking, her hands out, she allowed her hands to run along the smooth stone walls -- when suddenly, a feeling, a imprint of the past overtook her senses... the words "trust in the force..." resonating within her mind as she quickly pulled her hand away clearly startled by the vision she'd been given... but not out of fear, but reverence.

Coming now to the Grand Chamber, Valery stopped, and while her tone was supportive and nurturing as ever -- there was a shift in her tone, one that she noted and gave full attention too. She spoke on a trail -- something that would test her -- push her and as she stared now at the entrance to a cavern that opened up and went into the dark depths of the earth, a sense of overwhelming inadequacy overtook her. What would she face? What questions in her heart needed answered? What weakness needed true strength of mind and body to overcome? Looking at Val, her own demeanor now clearly understanding the gravity of what she was fixing to face she spoke, her voice soft. "I have a lot of questions Master -- questions that I've sought answers for... for a long time, questions... I have no way of understanding how to ask. I understand that what I face -- will be for me, and me only. All I know to say is... I'll be brave even though I'm afraid, and I'll trust in myself but most of all... I will trust in the force." Giving Valery one last look which seemed like she wanted to hug her more than anything, she took a couple steps forward, but abruptly paused as a gust of wind came from the entrance of the cave -- a feeling, a... sense of awareness sending chills down her spine. The cave knew she was here... and while normally it would bring a natural curiosity and excitement to her -- in this moment, it caused a pit of fear to swell up within her -- it was aware, it was waiting.

Gripping her fists, she clenched her teeth as she willed her legs forward, her soft and nervous voice coming out in a whisper. "I am the force... and the force is me.. my breath, is my light...." Closing her eyes and breathing deeply, she focused on the light that was her breath -- she exhaled... then inhaled once more -- allowing that light to expand and fill her mind, she reopened her eyes as the darkness of the cave began to overtake her form... until, her body blurred and became one with the darkness of the cave.

Valery watched Anneliese with a deep sense of pride as she stepped forward, ready to face her trial despite the clear fear that lingered in her expression. The way her Padawan spoke — acknowledging the fear but vowing to trust in the Force — reminded Valery of her own journey long ago. It wasn't about being fearless; it was about moving forward in spite of it.

"You're stronger than you think," Valery said softly, her voice gentle yet full of conviction. She wished she could take away the fear, but she knew this was something Anneliese had to face on her own.

"You can do this."

As Anneliese moved toward the cave entrance, Valery felt the shift in the air as well. The Force stirred, and the cave seemed to call out to Anneliese, aware of the new presence stepping into its depths. Valery's eyes followed her Padawan's figure until the shadows consumed her, leaving the Jedi Master alone at the cave's mouth.

Valery stood still for a moment, her fiery gaze focused on the darkness. She sent a quiet blessing through the Force, wishing Anneliese strength, and then, with a soft sigh, turned her attention back to the surrounding ruins. The trial had begun, and now all she could do was wait, trusting in her Padawan and the Force to guide her.

Her first signal — a gentle pulse from deep within the caves, calling out to her.

It wanted her to get closer.

The cave was dark, which caused her throat to tightened, Anneliese still focusing on her breathing as she reached out in the force. Unbuckling her training saber, the familiar 'crack-hiss' breaking the silence and reverberating loudly, the blue light from it lit up the immediate area she was in. "I am the force -- and the force is me...." She spoke alone to herself as she continued down the dark tunnel.

How in the world would she know where to go -- she'd been walking for sometime now, but nothing stood out, she'd seen no signs of any crystals yet. Pushing the mind-killer down, she took in a deep breath. "I am the force -- and the force is me...." As her voice faded into the darkness, Annie holding the saber out like a light, a feeling -- a sensation of being, watched overtook her entire being as the hairs on the back of her neck stood up, her form turning around quickly as an odd sensation crashed into her, a whisper reverberating around her... "A..n..n..i..e....." "What? Who's there!?! Master Noble? Is that you?" Turning quickly back around again -- her heart beating hard in her chest, speaking aloud in almost a shout from how startled she'd been, only for it to fall on deaf ears -- her shouts echoing in the distance.. until, yet again, a whisper echoed, her ears picking up on it again. "C..o..m..e....". Freezing, the darkness now playing tricks on her eyes, swearing up and down the path she'd been following now plagued with shadows that were moving. Tear's swelled up in her eyes as she swallowed hard, a lump forming in her throat as she forced her body, forced her legs to move -- internally saying "It isn't real... It isn't real... trust the force... It isnt... real...".

"I'm not afraid of you! Your not real! Your not here!" Anger rising from the fear that was beginning to fill her senses, her boots taking unsure steps. How far in the cave was she? Was this the test? Was this just her? What if this wasn't the test... what if the test was worse? Behind her, the sound of moving gravel and rock shifting causing her to break into an all out blind sprint further down the tunnel ahead. Something was behind her, something was playing tricks. "I'm not afraid, I'm not afraid -- Leave me ALONE!" Her chest feeling like it was going to explode, her field of vision disorientated as she ran down the tunnel, her foot catching an uneven rock in the ground, now sending her flying and landing face down with a loud 'SMACK" onto the hard and jagged floor, her body hitting like a rag doll as she landed, her saber deactivating -- leaving her in perpetual darkness, a sob escaping her mouth. She wanted her Master -- she wasn't brave -- she wasn't strong -- she wasn't worthy of anything. Her sobs echoed into the dark as she lie there, trying her best to compose herself and find the strength to trek ahead.

As Anneliese lay on the cold, jagged floor, the darkness around her pressing in, she suddenly heard a voice — faint but unmistakable. It was Valery's voice, calling out to her.

"Anneliese,"

But the voice didn't come from behind her; it echoed from deeper within the cave system. Confusion and fear gripped her heart, but through the shadows, she caught a glimpse of a figure moving ahead, barely visible in the dim light. It looked like Valery, her silhouette unmistakable as it moved gracefully through the cave.

"Anneliese... come this way."

A familiar, comforting pulse began to ripple through the Force, drawing Anneliese towards it with the same warmth her Master always tried to show her. It was calm, and soothing and tried to pierce through the panic that was keeping the young girl down on her knees. She had to get up.

She had to keep going.

Laying there, her breath uneven, her chest tight as she willed her body to sit up in the cold, damp and dark cave. Bringing her hands up to her eyes, doing her best to control her sobs, a voice -- one without a doubt she knew -- it was Master Val. "Master? Master Valery? Where are you!?!?" She turned her head in all around, her sense of direction incredibly disoriented from the dark... until yet again, just beyond her senses in the dark the shadows shifted and moved -- the voice calling out again.... beckoning her further into the cave.

A soft sob breaking free from her mouth as she came to on all fours, lifting off the ground, closing her eyes as she stood -- inhaling sharply from the pain of the fall she'd taken which pinched at her side, and then exhaling -- her breath shaky. "My breath -- is light." Again -- inhale, exhale. "My breath -- is light..." Repeatedly, she worked at grounding herself -- until, the most unexpected thing happened. As she stood there, centering herself, reaching out to the force, a low blue light began to emanate all around her. At first, she felt it was some mind-trick, something new the cave was beginning to throw at her -- but as she allowed her eyes to open, a soft gasp escaped her lips. "By Ashla -- they're beautiful."

Cave dwelling glow-worms.

The light that emanated from her light-saber had caused them to not produce their fluorescent glow -- but standing there, looking down the endless tunnel, thousands of them hung to and from the wall's producing a calming glow and path for her. Walking a few feet from where she now stood, she picked up the training saber that had flung away during her fall, clipping it to her belt. Her hands shaking --She had to be brave... she had to keep going -- there was no other option, she wasn't going to fail, she was going to get her crystal -- she needed this, she had to do this. Staring up and all around her, she giggled as she sniffled. "Thank you little ones -- thank you for helping to light the way -- thank you for lending me your strength." With the small thank you, she continued on down the tunnel -- her mind wondering what would come next -- wondering if she would come face to face with this shadow that called and beckoned to her.

As Anneliese pressed forward into the cave, the voice grew louder, clearer — Valery's voice, calling her deeper into the labyrinth. "Anneliese," the voice urged again, filled with that familiar warmth, though something about it felt... strange. The glowing worms continued to illuminate the path, guiding her through the twisting tunnels, but each step forward seemed to blur the lines between reality and her own fears.

The sensation of being watched returned, stronger now. Shadows shifted in the corners of her vision, as she entered a larger, darker cavern. The soft glow of the worms barely pierced the suffocating darkness here, but just ahead, she could make out a figure standing still — the unmistakable silhouette of Valery.

For a moment, perhaps relief washed over her, but something was different. The figure stood motionless, far away, her features barely visible through the oppressive gloom.

"Are you done crying?" The voice came, sharp and unexpected. The familiar warmth Valery's voice once carried was gone, replaced by a cold, unsettling edge.

Eyes of disappointment were upon the girl, staring straight into her soul.

Following down the cave path with a new found sense of urgency, Anneliese sought to find her Master. A smile creeping up at the edge of her lips as she thought there must have been another entrance and Val was simply waiting at the end for her.

Coming into a large antechamber, a distinct and palpable change to the air occurred. No longer was there warmth and reassurance in the voice that spoke to her... no longer was there joy and peace -- instead, it felt cold... malicious, evil. Standing far off, but not so far she couldn't make out slight details, Anneliese spoke up -- the words spoken about her crying stinging like a knife to the ribs, she didn't mean to let Val down, that was the last thing she'd wanted to do. "Master-- I-- I... I made it.. I tried my best to be brave like I said I would be before you.... " As she spoke, earlier, thinking there must have been some way to get down here, something caused pause to her... logic and reasoning kicking in. There had only been one entrance to this cave, Valery had said it was her test... and her's alone to face -- that she would be waiting at the entrance for her once she was done.

Her blood chilled as her eye's narrowed, this thing, wasn't Val, yet it looked like and sounded like her. A growl almost exiting her mouth as her voice clawed forth in the darkness. "Your not real -- your not my Master... she would never talk to me like that... ever." Her hand touching the hilt of her saber.

Anneliese stepped deeper into the cavern, the voice of her Master echoing through the darkness with words sharp enough to pierce her heart. The disappointment laced in Valery's tone was palpable, and so very unlike her. But as she spoke, Anneliese would not only hear her Master's voice but also feel her Master's presence.

Warm and strong in the Force, yet disappointed.

Frustrated.

The figure, barely illuminated by the soft glow of the worms, remained unmoving, its presence almost oppressive as if the weight of judgment itself had manifested before Anneliese, "Why do you hesitate?" the figure asked, almost cruelly. "Is this how you wish to be remembered? As a failure?" Valery scoffed and looked deep into Anneliese's soul.

"Even the wisest Masters lose their patience when a student doesn't learn and doesn't grow," Valery continued, "You want to make me proud, yet this is how you present yourself to me?"

"Pathetic."

Anneliese could hear the utter disdain in her voice as the words poured from her mouth like venom -- stinging with every syllable... a verbal slap to the face from the one she came to love and admire more than anyone. This cave had a cruel sense of humor.

Her emerald eyes shone with a righteous anger as she glared at the impostor standing before her. "Yeah -- straight for the original insults -- a failure, like I haven't told myself that a thousand times." Her teeth grit as the Val standing before her continued her onslaught, beating her down with insecurity after insecurity.

"I do want to make you proud. The day you picked me was the best day of my life -- I felt like someone saw me, knew I could be more." Her eyes brimmed with hot angry tears her fist gripping the hilt of her lightsaber hard as the other hand balled into a fist. "Shut... up...." Her eyes gleamed in the darkness like an animals as she yelled aloud, her voice echoing in the cavern.

"HOW LONG DID I HAVE TO WAIT TO BE CHOSEN FOR A MASTER! HOW LONG!" Her voice heavy with frustration as a rumble echoed through the cavern -- her fist slamming towards the ground in the air. "I'm not weak -- I"M NOT PATHETIC! I who watched while others were picked, I who practiced everyday, LONGER than everyone else.. day, after day.. AFTER DAY -- ME!!" Her voice reverberated all around, a pain, a bottled up fury that had been withheld deep within for years now being released. "I, who was left to navigate and wade through the muck after being sent into war -- no one asking if I need help --...." Her breath was heavy as her teeth clenched together. "Your. Not. Val...." She paused as she pointed the hilt of her saber towards her. "And I don't have to take this chit from you -- I know my Master -- I told you, your not her."

She stood, her demeanor filled with tenacity as her head tilted back just slightly, her body language refusing to take anymore -- a sleeper beginning to awaken from within.

"Then believe in yourself."

The words hung in the air for a moment, and the cold edge in Valery's voice softened. Her figure, once so harsh and menacing, began to blur, like mist dissipating with the first light of dawn. The shadows that had clung to her form faded into the darkness of the cavern, and with a final flicker of her fiery eyes, the illusion vanished completely, leaving only the echo of her words reverberating in the silent space.

Anneliese stood there, her breath ragged and her body trembling with the release of all the pent-up frustration and fury she had just unleashed. The cave that had once felt so suffocatingly small now seemed to expand around her. The weight pressing down on her chest lifted, and the lingering anger and self-doubt that had coiled inside her heart for years loosened its grip.

Her mind, once clouded with confusion and anger, would suddenly be clear. Valery's voice — no, not Valery's, but the cruel imitation conjured by the caves — had hopefully left her with a truth that resonated deep within her: believe in yourself. Valery, who had taken her on for her fiery spirit and the true kindness of her heart would always be proud of her.

As her senses opened, the oppressive energy that had once consumed the cave faded. In its place, there was calm. There was light. A soft, rhythmic pulse began to ripple through the Force, steady and unyielding, calling to her. It was faint at first, like a heartbeat just out of reach, but as Anneliese allowed herself to relax and let go of the lingering tension, the pulse became clearer.

It was the presence of her kyber crystal.

The warm hum of the crystal resonated deep within the cavern, guiding her toward it. The glowworms, which had once seemed dim against the dark cavern walls, now shimmered with new intensity, illuminating a path forward.

A path towards her next step as a Jedi.

Believe in yourself... the words resonated to her very core.

Standing there as the imposter Val faded back into the cavern's darkness -- she couldn't help but to feel the sudden release of all the anger she'd stuffed way down in her heart release its hold upon her. Tears flowed down her cheeks -- but these were not sad tears, they were tears of joy. A soft giggle escaped her lips in the dark, until, almost humorously laughter erupted into the cavern, echoing all around until Anneliese let out a loud cheer and holler of victory. No, she wasn't celebrating thinking the trial was over -- she was celebrating the new found joy that had for so long evaded her.

Believe in yourself. I am strong. I am enough. I am not -- alone.

Those words now branded in her mind -- the bright glowing light of the glow-worms shining and illuminating the cavern, a soft escape of awe escaping her lips as she looked all around her now, taking in the sheer beauty that was the cave. A heart beat... and again... it echoed in her soul, and pounded at the doors to that was her heart.

Her Kyber was calling to her...

Looking down and across the room of the Cavern, she squatted down just slightly as she jumped from stone to stone like a spring loaded gun and came to yet another tunnel -- following the drumming heart beat. It was this way, how she knew -- she wasn't for certain... but she would follow the call of her heart.

Anneliese's steps echoed softly against the cavern floor as she ventured deeper, drawn like a moth to the flame. The glow-worms lit her path, but it was the drumming pulse she'd feel deep within would likely guide her every move.

There, nestled atop a jagged rock formation, was the source of that call — a small, unassuming crystal. Its surface was dull and without color, its edges rough, but it emanated a quiet energy that stirred something profound inside whoever felt its call. It sat there, waiting for Anneliese to reach for it, and when she did...

The moment they made contact, a sudden burst of warmth flooded her senses, and a radiant yellow light enveloped the entire chamber. The crystal hummed with life, glowing brighter and brighter, its luminous energy pulsing in perfect harmony with her own. It was like a reflection of her soul — pure, unbroken, and full of potential.

A mirror created by the Force itself.

This was her Kyber, a symbol of her inner strength and the balance she sought. It felt as though a piece of her heart had been returned, filling a void she wouldn't have known to have existed until now. But then, just as quickly, she felt it — a familiar presence waiting at the entrance of the caves. Valery's comforting aura wrapped around her like a soft embrace, steady and reassuring. Anneliese would know, without a doubt, that her Master was there.

Ready. Waiting for her.

She was close... by Ashla she was close.

Walking in an almost hurried manner, she came to yet another chamber, but this chamber, was different, this chamber... she knew, held her crystal. Closing her eyes and focusing on the thrumming heart beat that was the call of her Kyber, she listened.

Tha-thump.... Tha-thump.... Tha-thump....

Opening her eyes, shining in the low-level light like that of animal they came to focus and rest on the very top of a rocky ledge... and somehow -- she knew, it was there, it was hers. "I'm coming -- my heart -- I'm coming." Bounding forwards across the chamber she began to scale the rock wall, checking every foothold and handhold before scaling the face -- every bit of her body tense with the adrenaline that was now pumping into her system.

Coming to the very top, and swinging herself up and over, she stood in front of the crystal... the humming and pulsing of it shaking her very body. Slowly reaching her hand out she went to grab it... and as her hand touched it, a light that seemed to envelope and illuminate every dark crevice of the camber burst forth before her very eyes.

As her vision came too, she dropped to her knees as she looked at the crystal in front of her. It was as bright as the rays of the mourning sun... as pure as the wisps of fire that help heat and purify. It felt warm, pure, strong and safe... and somehow she felt like it was her own inner light that she was looking at now expressed outwardly in this crystal. Carefully reaching out and cradling the crystal, Anneliese held it in her hands, the soft thrumming of it vibrating her hands -- it was a beating, living heart... made by the force, for her.... it had chosen her.

Tears of joy slowly ran down her cheeks.

As she held the crystal she felt another presence just on the edge of her senses -- Valery. A giggle of unbridled joy escaping her lips she let out a massive and triumphant yell. "I GOT MY CRYSTAL!" This... this was something she would never forget. All those years wishing, and now -- here she stood.

Time would pass -- how much, she wasn't for sure. The caves caused her to loose touch with time... but she knew she was getting close to Val, to the entrance.

As she would approach, cradling her Kyber like a precious flame, a brilliant yellow light would begin to emerge from the cave mouth -- the silhouette of Anneliese seen as she saw in the light, Valery standing ready for her return, tear's swelling in her eyes as she took off running to her, shouting, yelling -- "I did it Master! I did it! I found my Crystal!" Sobbing laughter escaping her lips as she ran to her.

Valery's ears perked up at the sound of excited laughter echoing from within the cave, and a smile immediately tugged at her lips. She stepped closer to the entrance, waiting patiently as Anneliese's voice carried through the passageways — brimming with joy and unrestrained elation. The sound was so pure, so filled with life, that Valery couldn't help but feel tears of pride welling up in her own eyes.

"I did it, Master! I did it! I found my crystal!"

Valery's heart swelled, and as the brilliant yellow light began to emerge, she saw Anneliese's silhouette framed against it, cradling the crystal in her hands like it was the most precious thing in the Galaxy. And to Anneliese, it truly was.

As soon as the young woman crossed the threshold, Valery didn't hesitate — she stepped forward and wrapped Anneliese in a tight, warm embrace, one hand gently cradling the back of her head. "I'm so proud of you, Anneliese," she whispered softly, her voice filled with warmth and sincerity. "I knew you had it in you."

She pulled back slightly, enough to meet the Padawan's gaze and see the joyful tears sparkling in her eyes. "This is a moment you'll always carry with you," Valery continued, her own eyes glistening with unshed tears. "Your crystal chose you because of who you are, your strength, and the light within you. It's yours, forever."

With that, she brushed a thumb gently across Anneliese's cheek, wiping away the tears. "You've proven yourself today, not just as a Jedi but as a person. And I couldn't be prouder."

As Valery took her into an embrace, she breathed deeply relishing in the motherly hug that she gave her... one of the many things she loved about having Val as a Master -- she wasn't just that to Annie, she was a Mother, a Mentor, a Master, a Friend. Val gave something to Annie that had been missing for so long -- and there was nothing she loved more than moments like these.

Looking up at Val as her hand came to her cheek to brush away the tears -- she couldn't help but to grin from ear to ear as she continued to cradle the thrumming Kyber -- listening to her speak on what had transpired today. There was so much she wanted to tell her about what had happened, but the only words she could seem to form in her mind, echoing and repeating like a one track hit, were "Believe in yourself...".

Her head tilted just slightly as she let another giggle out -- her hair was slightly more unkempt and dirty than it had been before she went in -- and scrapes now adorned her exposed arms, clearly from a fall of some kind within the cave. Her gaze meeting with Val, she spoke, trying to contain the gratitude and unbridled emotions she was feeling, her soft voice cracking as she spoke. "Thank you... for always believing in me... Thank you for choosing me. I've always felt different -- always felt overlooked. It didn't matter how hard I worked at something.. No one saw me -- until you did." Holding her Kyber up slightly she bowed deeply to Val. "I promise I will always believe in myself -- like you do, because now I see -- I am strong, I am loved and I am enough." She rose from her bow as she giggled, sniffling just slightly. "I just may occasionally need a reminder... or a kick in my rear."
