The Dark Jedi/Sith Debate.

I thought with dark jedi their either Sith who aren't fully devoted to the ideals of the jedi or sith. They have dark and light side abilities and all but they're not fully evil or fully good. Some are more self-centered than others while some can be more anti-hero. That's how I've seen it.

What makes them different or the same?
Dark Jedi was used to describe anyone using the dark side of the Force (originally just fallen Jedi, but the meaning expanded since it was the only available term). Even Darth Vader and tons of other characters were put under this category before the Prequels.

Then the concept of the Sith was introduced as a group that not only used the dark side of the Force but had a distinct culture.

So essentially, all Sith are Dark Jedi but not all Dark Jedi are Sith. In the end, Sith get called Sith while everyone else is called Dark Jedi.

To ME a Dark Jedi is not concerned with Galactic Domination or ruling over others to increase his renown and etc. A Dark Jedi connects to the Darkside and allows it to move through them freely, which is why most dark Jedi kill for fun and pleasure where as the Sith leash the Darkside and enslave it. In my Sig it says the Darkside will not be enslaved because i believe that. Dark Jedi only care about them self's and really dont give a kark about much else.

Good example is Aurra Sing.

The Sith and Dark Jedi are Darksiders.

Being a Sith is an Ancient Tradition and the Modern Religion originally formed by a select few "Dark Jedi" who were introduced to the Sith Species that predated them in their Sith Beliefs by thousands of years.

The Dark Jedi are merely Darksiders who are often mislabeled in the terminology of "Jedi", giving the misconception that they may have once been part of the Jedi Order, which may not be the case. As such, Dark Jedi should just be known as Darksiders (if unaligned to a specific religious sect), and Sith should be known as well... whatever the current incarnation of the Sith Culture/Religion/Tradition dictates you call them.

Done. End of story. They are both Dark siders and are virtually identical, except one is organized, and generally more powerful in nearly every instance.

Not true. It's explicitly stated that he was a Sith in contemporary, Lucas canon sources.

Tl;dr for my earlier post in the other thread:

Rewatch the original trilogy, guys. The word "Sith" was never mentioned; I made sure of that the last time I watched it. Fun fact: neither was the name "Boba Fett".

imo

Dark Jedi refers to the original Jedi who joined the dark side. They then reformed into what is now known as the sith order. Current DJ are essentially those who haven't joined or assimilated into the Sith. Thus changing into the minority.

Like the Jews and Christians.

For Force's sake, here's what a dark jedi is. I really hope I don't need to explain what a Sith is at this point - but knowing a few contemporaries who disagree on canonical sith being "true" sith, I may have to do so after all. Oh, and this is all information I'm gathering from canonical sources, not opinions.

  • Dark Jedi are those whom A) Are fallen Jedi that have been seduced to the dark side, Non-Affiliated dark siders that do not belong to a named cult or group (Nightsisters and such would not be considered dark jedi. Sorry, kiddos).
  • Dark Jedi have their own goals, just as Non-Banite Sith do. I'm sorry if I have to spend the time to explain this, as it appears everyone believes the Order of the Sith Lords (Darth Bane's Sith Order circa 1000 BBY) is the only Sith Order to exist and that all previous incarnations are the same (The Brotherhood and Vitiate's Empire beg to differ). A Dark Jedi can wish for galactic conquest if they want - Look at Boc Aseca, whom wished to have all the power of a Sith without actually being a Sith. Sorry, polarizing fact or not, he is a Dark Jedi, as are hundreds (or dozens?) of others.
  • Dark Jedi are not a cult, a group, an entity, or any semblance of an organization or faction. The Dark Jedi is a broad term for what was mentioned in the first bullet point. Once they form a group and their own beliefs, they have become something else. Dark Jedi in origin, not Dark Jedi in status.
I probably missed a few things, oh wait.
  • Dark Jedi originated in 7000 BBY, 18000 years after the Republic was formed. Also 20000 years after the Sith cult began. Just throwing that out there.
It should be noted that the page for Sith on wookiepedia refers to the first merge between Dark Jedi and the Sith Purebloods post-100 years darkness and schism.
