- For Shadowrunners in Darkwire moving forward
- Material: Non-replicating Nanomachines
- Classification: Cybernetic Tattoo
- Size: Extremely Small
- Weight: Extremely Light
- Resistances (Optional):
- EMP: High
- Ion: High
- Invisible - These Nanomachines do not register on technology scanners, and appear as naturally "organic" to the body as any normal tattoo would. Additionally, if the wearer wishes it the Nanomachines can respond to their desire and alter the pigment so as blend in with their skin, concealing the tattoo from the naked eye.
- Nanotrip - Similar to the corporate experiment gone wrong on Parcellus Minor, these Nanomachines when activated can send its wearer's mind into a virtual environment shared with others who have a Darkwire Tattoo activated. This allows for secure and very personal communication between members without a traditional record that can be traced or eavesdropped on through the holonet. Time perception is also altered and can allow for long conversations in the real world to be condensed in the virtual space to just a few minutes.
- CryptNet - Incorporates CryptNet's CryptFi tech so it doesn't need the holonet when around a mesh network
- Selective Invisibility - The Darkwire Tattoo present on a person distinguishes them as a prominent member in the Darkwire organization, as a Shadowrunner. However, to protect the organization and its members, it is able to conceal itself should a member not want to be seen as a member, and otherwise does not trip anything unusual in scanners beyond being a tattoo. The fact that it is also a simple dark line, and not something more eye-catching, makes it easier to dismiss or claim it was imagined once it disappears.
- Secure and Personal - Being able to share a face to face conversation with someone from a long distance without a trace on the holonet or elsewhere in virtual space, goes a long way towards security, and establishing a brotherhood. CryptNet capabilities only enhance this aspect of it. Additionally, given that it is surrounded by flesh and often integrates closely with nearby cells to perform its functions, it's resistant to ionic and EMP energy, though not immune.
- Changing Loyalties - Once granted, a Darkwire Tattoo cannot be shut out of the shared experience. If a Shadowrunner decides to betray the organization, they have an easy means of spying on them without recourse. These Tattoos are not given out lightly because of this, but nothing can prevent a person's mind from changing.
- Interference - Traditional means of blocking signals, or shutting down technology through EMP or Ion energy, can potentially prevent a person from using a Darkwire Tattoo, or make the attempt more difficult.
In the months leading up to the corporate occupation of Parcellus Minor following the Nanotripping Disaster, Lance of Dreams had come under the suspicion that some of his designs in iBorg had been stolen. This Corporate theft was discretely traced back to a cabal of shady Business owners controlling the planet Denon and the surrounding territories known as the Direx Board. Eventually, through his own technical skills, he anticipated a shipment of rival cybernetics making its way to the underdevelopment world Parcellus Minor. Getting into contact with the criminal organization of Darkwire, he hired them to heist this shipment before reaching the planet.
Inevitably though, before Lance of Dreams could fully understand what they were dealing with, Darkwire was lead into a trap on the planet. The whole world became infected by the nanites known as "CYBERDRIVE", a drug intended for entertainment purposes. Many on the planet became comatose as they lived out a surreal existence which served as life wish fulfillment, while others were not affected by it as much, and were able to find a means to shut down the nightmare along with the global quarantine.
But not before Direx Board member, Larz Blackheart, had already collected vast quantities of personal information on my Darkwire members, blackmailing them for cooperation in taking responsibility for CYBERDRIVE's sabotage, and future endeavors. Distraught and defeated by this Corporate subterfuge, Darkwire members began looking for means of protecting themselves and their organization.
Lance of Dreams then created the Tattoo for Darkwire, utilizing his stolen technology and collected samples of the CYBERDRIVE nanites, as a gift of thanks to the organization for putting an end to the disaster, and to prevent similar exploitation against their agents in the future.
