Faction The Death Dealer and the Admiral | The Diarchy

Shan would never admit it, but he had missed military life. Half a decade spent hopping from bar to bar on every space station from the core to Bastion, and he had told himself everyday that it was for the best. There would be no returning to that part of his life, and only the future of ‘freedom and bliss’ awaited him in his golden years. Now though, looking back, he could safely say he had missed his old life in the military. He had been given a new lease on life, and he would not waste it.

Standing on the bridge of the Dominion, his first official command since his days aboard the Imperial prison barge that had marked the end of his career, Shan rebelled quietly in the joy the ordered chaos around him brought. Dozens of officers, a mixture of both men well past retiring age brought back to service and youths too young to know how hard thei lives were going to be. The Diarchy was limited in its resources, and while the new Naval Academy was still under construction, the first class of cadets had been rushed through to begin fazing out the older officers filling junior ranks.

It was all coming together, slowly but surely.

Shan glanced through the data pad handed to him by the young ensign, nodding his head and dismissing the youth while looking through the document. For many, the endless manifest reports and documentation required in the military was exhausting, but Shan found a certain comfort in them. Everything was clear, everything was direct, and everything moved to a controlled schedule.

Except the Sith…

Nexion was wandering the Diarchy's capital ship, The Dominion, as he was taking a break from his research into Necromancy. He was close to a breakthrough, he could feel it, but even he enjoyed a nice break every now and again.

Eventually, he made his way to the bridge of a Diarchy where he immediately spotted someone he recalled Darth Reign mentioned, though he didn't really recall anything specific about that interaction. Either way, he approached the man with his usual grin on his face.

As he arrived, he glanced over the officer's shoulder to have a look at the documents he was overseeing. The Sith Lord quickly grew bored, remembering he isnot one to enjoy such formal things.

"So, you must be one of the big-shot military officers Reign spoke about. Shane Pellick was it?"

Shan turned to look at the Sith, annoyance etched across his brows as he looked the man up and down. Even without taking his clothing and appearance into account, Shan knew the man could not have been a military officer by the way he held himself. He lacked the discipline drilled into soldiers during their training, and he moved with an almost...flamboyant exuberance that told of an extreme confidence in himself. Turning the data pad around, he passed it to a nearby droid, before turning to face the newcomer fully, folding his hands behind his back.

"Admiral Pellian, to be correct Sith," Shan said, his words kept to a arrow straight neutrality. It was a concept he had long ago learned to deal with. The idea that at an instant, the man before him could kill Shan without even moving an inch. A master of the Force, and of the predilection to use it wantonly rather than reserve it, if all the stories of the Sith were true. Lesser men would have cowered in the face of that dark realization, but he was no coward.

"What others think of me is not my, or your, concern Sith," Shan said, tilting his chin up slightly, "I will let my record speak for itself."

Hearing the Admiral speak to him, Nexion's grin didn't faulter. A man, who probably understood how dangerous a force user of any kind is to the ordinary man, yet still stood his ground was a man of confidence indeed. Of course, that made no difference to Nexion's behaviour towards the Admiral in the slightest.

"Oh, I see. My mistake. I'm not good with the names of people I don't care about, far too much effort remembering them when they don't matter to me. But, I will remember your position. Even if I don't care for you, a man with your rank is worth remembering in some capacity."

He then leaned in towards the Admiral, being almost close enough to be violating personal space.

"As for myself, I am Darth Nexion and I never said anything of the sort relating to my thoughts on you... Well, at least until my previous statement regarding how I don't care for you. Oh well."

Nexion then backed up, surveying the bridge.

"But, I must say you've got this place in quite the orderly fashion, Reign will like that."

Shan took what the Sith, this Darth Nexion, said in stride, turning his own gaze to look around the bridge. Officers were sending occasional glances towards the two of them, but Shan was pleased to see most were working tirelessly at their stations. They were indeed shaping up to be an excellent crew, and in time, the Diarchy would have a fleet of ships filled with just as well disciplined men and women.

Let the will of the Diarch be done.

"It has taken some time," Shan said, "but this ship, and the rest of the fleet, are being dragged to readiness. Lord Reign has made his intentions clear, and I will not falter in completing the tasks set before me, no matter the hinderance." With the last words, Shan turned to look at Nexion directly, his eyes narrowed the slightest amount.

"What is it that I can held you with, Darth Nexion?"

Nexion allowed is eyes to roll upon the Admiral's words. He sounded both similar to Reign, and respectful of Reign. He spoke to himself barely above a mutter.

"You really are like Reign, I'll tell you that much. You really shouldn't place as much trust and loyalty in that man as you do... well, at least at the current time. Or, maybe that's just me and my feelings towards him slipping out."

He looked back at the Admiral, his voice clear this time.

"No, I'm in no need of assistance Admiral. I am simply taking a break from my practises and decided a good stroll around the ship would do me some good, and good it has. You seem to be one of the more important people on this ship (not that it's a high bar), so it was good that I ran into you. But, while I am here maybe you can talk me through some of the... things, you've been keeping busy with?"

Nexion looked the military man directly in the face as his grin never once left his face, as if taunting him with his seemingly carefree attitude.

Shan grunted, staring in silence at the Sith on his bridge for several moments. The Sith were a difficult subject when it came to chain of command. More often than not, they were outside of that most important hierarchy and did what they wanted. Jedi tended to fall more under rules and organization, but Shan had given up the thought of ever serving alongside their kind. His personal beliefs aligned too closely with the Sith's for that, even if they annoyed him.

This Sith in particular was a quandary to Shan. He was not sure where the man fell in the Diarchy's command structure, but it was likely best to play it on the side of caution. Besides, it was hardly a secret what he had been up to.

Shan took a step forward, gesturing out the viewport of the Dominion towards other Diarchy ships, barely visible in the vast distance of space. "By order of Lord Reign, I have been bringing up the Diarchy's naval assets to combat ready. It is one thing to own starships, it is very much another to have combat ready starships. The crews need to be drilled and replenished, minor technical flaws repaired before they can become bigger dangers. Constant work, constant effort. There is a long way still to go before we are ready for the Diarch's plan to take shape."
