The Demon Run

[Shor Laurent]

There had been much deliberation on the part of the older twin.

While he had the location, and from there could no doubt begin his hunt, what he had seen upon Dxun had him quaking in his leather boots. Shor was not familiar with visions, and so part of him wondered if such things were set in stone, if they could be altered in any way... Or even if they had any meaning whatsoever. He wanted to believe the latter, but knew that being so blind to potential truths was foolish.

So he had decided to see for himself. Knowing what he had seen could prevent it from happening, surely? After all, Shor was a firm believer of free will. In his line of work, with his lifestyle, he had to be!

Piloting his ship down onto the planet surface of Ossus, Shor watched as the world which held his brother came into view. He did not know what he was expecting to find, if anything at all, but he hoped that nothing would make finding and speaking to Blaise difficult. At the very least those fiendish Jedi owed him that much.

Blaise walked out of the Academy and sat on the steps out the front. He had gotten into a fight with another Padawan again over something as ridiculous as an insult, as usual. He sighed and kicked a stone idly, he was always doing things he shouldn't. Blaise had been brought up blissfully unaware of his background or heritage. He had no knowledge of any family, let alone any living family. It had always been a sensitive topic, he wondered if there was ever anything to hide about his family, it sure seemed like it. He had always felt like a part of him was missing though...

He had, of course, made a b-line for the Temple. It was the main source of life, after all, and the likeliest area that his fellow Laurent would have been taken to, being that he was with the Jedi and all. Funny how he refused to simply acknowledge that his brother was a Jedi...

As he approached the grounds he was halted by a Jedi clad in robes, a lightsaber hung upon his waist. Shor's initial instinct was to shoot first and ask questions later, but he also knew when to bide his time. There were a lot of Jedi on this world, and only one of him. That's not to say he was a coward, far from it, he just picked his battles.

"Where is Blaise?" he said, instead, his tone vehement; The Jedi seemed unaware of exactly who he meant. "Blaise Laurent. Where is he?"

A moment of uncertainty flashed within the Jedi's eyes, before he nodded and asked Shor to follow him. Led up the steps and into the Temple there he was asked to wait, while the Jedi presumably went to talk to someone. While he was stood there Shor glanced around, every bone in his body wanted to burn the place down. But not yet. Not until he had Blaise.

Blaise watched as Shor approached the Temple. It was unusual for non-Jedi to be here, they often weren't allowed in unless they had business with someone inside. He watched the new comer and began to frown when he heard his name mentioned. Everyone knew who Blaise was at the Academy, but outside of school, he was just another person.

Did he know this person? Why did they know him? He didn't recognise Shor, though there was something striking about him...

Slowly, he raised from his sulking position on the stairs and approached Shor once the other Jedi had gone. "I'm Blaise Laurent." he said dubiously. He'd become a lot more secluded after a kidnapping incident with a Sith, only it was a lot more apparent now.

His thoughts were interrupted by the sound of slow footsteps making their way up behind him. Naturally Shor swiveled on the spot and reached for one of his blasters, though he did not take it into his hand. Whoever it was had been walking in a curious manner if the steps and pace themselves were anything to go by, which left Shor suspicious.

The words he heard upon doing so left him dumbfounded.

There he stood, the boy he had been searching for, the brother he had spent years away from. And Shor could not even find the words to speak to him. Instead he took in his appearance, he was looking well if a little sullen and broody. Was this because of the Jedi? What had they done to cause Blaise annoyance?

Shor clenched up a fist for a moment, before shaking his head. No, speculation could wait.

Without warning Shor stepped forward and embraced his brother without a word. Should he be successful in doing so, his embrace would last for but a moment before he stepped back and stared at his twin. They appeared so different, yet there was definitely something spookily similar too.

"Blaise..." he began, voice breaking slightly, "You're alive..."

Blaise seemed more confused than anything, he said nothing as he was embraced and made no attempt to hug back because as far as he was aware, he had no connection to this person. It seemed rather peculiar, was there something he wasn't aware of? He was sure to find out soon enough. He took a step back from Shor and looked him up and down, he appeared tense, what could possibly be wrong?

"Yes... I am alive, why wouldn't I be?" he paused before continuing. "Who are you?"

Maybe this person knew something about himself that he didn't, after all, all he'd ever known was the Jedi.

Blaise's expression spoke volumes. He did not know the sight of his own twin, he likely didn't even know that he had a brother or who his parents were. The thought saddened Shor; the Jedi had really done a number on him. How dare they keep his heritage from him! Shaking his head the other Laurent brother furrowed his brows, his expression darkening for a moment.

"I'm your brother." He let that sit in the air for a moment, before looking off toward the trees and scoffing. "Your twin, actually." There was no easy way to say it, and he wasn't entirely certain that the boy would believe him, but he had to start somewhere. In the courtyard some of the younger Jedi stopped and stared, while an older one - possibly a Knight - looked on with disapproval, before swiftly heading inside after the one Shor had initially spoken to.

They didn't have long.

"You have to come with me, Blaise, before they take you away again... These people -- they're monsters."

There was an urgency in his tone; Shor could not let the Jedi steal him this time, they had caused enough trouble as it was.

Blaise shook his head and stepped away from Shor and out of his reach, just in case. "You're not my brother, I don't have a brother." he said as a matter of factly. It was true in his mind anyway. A twin? The Jedi wouldn't be as heartless as to keep someone from knowing about their twin would they? Though it would make sense. No family means no attachment. He had never known of a family, but that didn't mean there wasn't one, and this person didn't seem to mean any ill intention...

"These people? Jedi? They're not monsters, most of them are good people with good intentions." he took another step back. "I can't come with you anyway, I'll be expelled from the order."

Shor laughed bitterly. "Is that what they told you?" Shaking his head he glanced around his surroundings before settling his gaze back to Blaise. "You have no brother? I'm your twin, you definitely have a brother!" Practically shaking with rage at this point, it took all of his control not to fly off the handle and kill all of the diseased folk in the vicinity. They were unnatural.

"And good? You think these people are good? They took you from us, from your family, when you were still a baby. Because of them you never knew your own mother, your own father, and let's not even talk about how wrong it is to keep someone from the one they were born alongside! The Jedi kill, they eradicate anything that contradicts their point of view. Have you seen Metalorn lately? The damage they did there... Or any other world they go to, they invade, they conquer for the Republic."

Catching his breath, Shor lifted his arms up to run his hands through his hair, keeping both atop his head afterward. "My name is Shor, and the Jedi can't stop you from leaving. Not with me around." He didn't care how many he had to fight to get out of here, he wasn't leaving without his brother. He couldn't, he owed it to their parents.
