DESCRIPTION:

Cord, and gunslingers at large, have an obstacle when fighting force users. Namely the capability of force users to deflect blasterbolts with lightsabers. The Disabler is a means of tackling that issue.

Lightsabers are essentially beams of plasma contained in a forcefield. This forcefield shields the user and components from the heat of the blade. The Disabler is specially built to damage the forcefield that contains the plasma blade. The Disabler typically takes three to five blasterbolts to short out the forcefield of a lightsaber. Upon the forcefield's destruction the user of the lightsaber typically suffers and extreme burn from the heat. The lightsaber itself is also usually damaged beyond the scope of field repair, requiring at minimum a replacement of the blade emitter. While this is the typical response to Disabler fire, a Jedi with a mind for safety and quality assurance could install a shutdown mechanism to protect themselves and their lightsaber. In such a case the lightsaber would simply be inoperable, but not damage the user. An advanced safety mechanism that provides "reboot" capability so to speak, us also possible, but the time needed for reboot would increase with each disabling. As a side effect the Disabler is generally effective against all forms of energy fields, disabling defenses such as droideka shielding with far more ease than a typical blaster.

The Disabler is not without it's weaknesses however. The bolts suffer from a shorter than average range, and a lower overall damage output than a typical blaster. This means it will take more hits to deal with armored foes, and users of protection techniques such as Tutaminis will undergo less strain than normal. It also offers no means of penetrating non-lightsaber based blaster deflection, such as the numerous sith swords that have come into fashion. Overall the Disabler is a specialized tool for dealing with a specific enemy, and a weaker substitute for dealing with other combatants.
