The Jump
Harris marched out of the room as the holographic tabled faded to darkness, quickly passing through the opening sliding doors. The ship creaked as it finished aligning, Harris looking down to the sound, he had a slight smirk on his face as he approached his captain's chair, which was elevated above the rest of the crew. He quickly mounted his seat and strapped in before looking down.
"Navigations officer, are we all set?"
"We are completely aligned, all that's left is launch." The officer clicked a button as a small control panel parallel to the side of Harris's chair shook, a little less than half-way through the council a bar slowly rose as the lights dimmed in the bridge.
Harris placed his hand near the bar, discretely pressing a comms button on the other,
"All crew, this is William Harris, The Premier, and Admiral of this vessel, final warnings to buckle yourselves in." Harris released the button and slid his left hand to a safety cover, lifting it and flipping the switch. A loud alarm began to Blair as the lights in the bridge shifted blue, Harris grabbed a dial next to the bar before pushing the speaker once more,
"Prepare to jump to hyperspace." He twisted the dial as the distant hyperdrive charged. He glanced down in the direction of the pilot crew, whose chief nodded. A smile grew on his face as Harris slowly slid the bar forwards, the bar reached completely forwards as hyperspace began to fold around them, the ship accelerated before it, and the fleet, tightly entered in close proximity.
After Days in hyperspace, the Admiral is summoned to the bridge...
Harris listened as the crew counted down, 3... 2... 1... Suddenly, with a shake, the ship shot out of hyperspace, the other fleets coming out just behind them. Harris looked forwards with confusion the void was completely black, save for the bits of light escaping from the galaxy behind them. They were surrounded by nothing, and there was nothing for hundreds of light-years.
Harris turned to a man in a white uniform amongst the sea of blue.
"Captain, what am I looking at?"
The man shook his head,
"It should be right here," he looked over to some crew-mated for a response.
"Right?"
One of the men adjusted his glasses before standing and walking to the Captain,
"Sir, it is right here, Infrared is picking up a massive object at 12 o'clock. My recommendation is focussing a forward beam of energy and seeing if we can spot it."
The hull of the ship lit up, all energy focussing into a massive beam at the front of the hull. A beam flew forwards, striking a massive metal object with a light reflection. The was a split second before what appeared to be sphere surrounding the entire began to light up. There was a rush of light as massive doors began to slide open, letting through the blinding light of super-massive star and system ahead. Harris stood in awe.
"Full speed ahead."
The ship accelerated through the massive shell, fleets following. As the ships passed through, there was a beeping of incoming targets, this was it. Harris looked out, there was a massive void, the clearest he'd ever seen. lit by a single red star in the center, which dimly lit the metal shell surrounding the entire system.
Harris quickly focused on the beeping,
"Incoming targets! All hands to stations!" The shell closed slowly behind the fleet as hundreds of craft, looking almost like massive cephalopods with little arms, accelerated towards them at a high rate of speed. There was a massive crack in the hull as one opened fire, striking and bouncing off the shield of the bridge.
"Shields full strength ahead!" Harris stood and marched down level with his men,
"All weapons aim 12 o'clock, signal the destroyers to try to surround them, and someone get ahold of Daws, Kyramud, and Von! They need to assist us on punching a whole to this planet, it's gonna take a hell of a lot of fire-power to get to DO-3, the colony.
