OUT OF CHARACTER INFORMATION
- Intent:
- IC: To create a unique ship to showcase the talents of design, engineering, and stellar architecture in the Outer Rim as not only equal to but capable of surpassing the skills and vision of the traditionally Core-based shipbuilding giants while highlighting the value, strength, and potential of an independent Outer Rim free of external colonization through the Renaissance Project.
- OOC: To do make a behemoth luxury vessel collaboratively as a faction to do something really cool and possibly even unique so that everyone can contribute something they love about the Outer Rim.

- Banking- There are a variety of small banking offices representing a wide variety of banking companies throughout the ship
- Small Wildlife Zoo
- Let's Travel in Style, Darling: There is no other luxury liner in the galaxy that has the amount, class, and scale of amenities as the Dream of the Rim
- Sailing Among the Stars: As a solar sailer, the vessel uses a relatively low amount of fuel to propel itself at sunlight speed, using the secondary engines only to accelerate to hyperspeed
- Diplomatic Embassies: As a physical representation of the Rimward Trade League, the ship also has extensive diplomatic office space for the League itself, as well as the various League member systems, trade partners, and Outer Rim governments. This makes things such as acquiring visas, passports, identity documents, and registering weddings very easy, as well as any transfer of valuable property that may take place in the casinos. The various security teams of each embassy can also assist with ship-board security
- Space Rangers: Given the ship's size and multi-governmental jurisdiction, the Rimward Trade League has a permanent Rimward Ranger Corps detachment assigned to the vessel. Only the most competent, reliable, and heroic-looking are selected for the posting, despite the fact their primary role is dealing with petty theft, vandalism, and card-sharks.
- Me, bored? Never!: There are more entertainment options aboard the ship than anyone could possibly try in a single trip. Everything from extreme sports to art to team activities to extra-vehicular spacewalks are available
- Safety first!: The vessel has a veritable fleet of shuttles, life-boats, and escape pods, as well as hangar space for personal yachts and other vessels, as well as highly efficient contingency plans designed by the best money could hire. Should evacuation be necessary, there are enough small-craft aboard the vessel to carry the entire crew and passenger complement, even if 25% of the small craft are destroyed or inaccessible. Despite this, the hull is reinforced, all safety systems are triple-redundant and reinforced, and every chamber is capable of sealing in less than five seconds in case of hull breach.
- Coming Through!: Let's be honest. The Dream is an absolutely massive vessel. It can only travel the largest space lanes and outer orbits of systems where traffic is sparse and far enough away to stay clear of the sail-infrastructure
- A tear in my sails: Compared to more traditional propulsion methods, solar sails are vulnerable to debris and impact collisions. While the advanced shielding system can help mitigate that fact, it is an unavoidable fact that the sails will be damaged and broken over time.
- Guns? What guns?: There are no guns mounted aboard the vessel and passengers are required to lock any and all weapons in a secure safe for the duration of the stay.
For the most part, solar-sailing has become, at worst, an archaic, outdated form of technology, or, at best, an exotic technology that deliberately resists modern technological standards and expectations. The Rimward Trade League saw this as an opportunity for powerful symbolism to encapsulate their own vision of resistance against the current galactic situation and the stereotypes of the Outer Rim. As a result, the League Council instituted the Renaissance Project.
Acting as an initiative for both the League and solar-sailing technology, the Dream of the Rim was to be the flagship for the project, with a wide variety of Outer Rim companies commissioned to not only help construct the behemoth, but to design and construct a wide variety of other solar-sailing vessels as well. The Dream of the Rim was the first one to begin construction. Utilizing multiple shipyards across the Rim, funded by everyone from Tillian Family Enterprises to the Nem'ro Clan of the Hutt Republic, the ship was a monument to Outer Rim ingenuity and organizational capacities.
But more than, that, even after the ship was finished and interior constructed, it was a monument to everything good and important to the Rim. Art masterpiece were purchased or commissioned from hundreds of Outer Rim artists, dozens of local system governments were offered space to add combination embassies and cultural centers, and no expense was spared in outfitting the casinos, arcades, zoo, and other attractions. Even more credits were spent to ensure that all safety precautions were taken, anticipated, and then exceeded to allow for safe escape even in the case of catastrophic damage. Military-grade shields were installed, but otherwise, no weapons were added, although several standard Star-Destroyer scaled engines were installed as well as the solar sails to ensure they would never be stranded.
It took over five years of effort and work to build the massive vessel, but the Rimward Trade League had its answer to a galaxy whose governments constructed massive fleets of super-star destroyers and behemoth battlecrusiers.
A ship equal to the largest of their warships, but unarmed and celebrating the strength of diversity, independence, and collaboration into the greatest cruise ship in the galaxy.
Banks of cabins lined much of the main lower hull, ranging from dormitory-style independently managed hostels for the budget-conscious to luxurious suites, allowing the ship to carry more passengers than many terrestrial cities possessed and even some of the more sparsely populated Outer Rim. To strengthen the hull against impacts, the interior is designed as a long cylindrical tube with corridors and structures arranged as a honeycomb structure. It adds some complications to traversing the vessel, but strengthens the hull integrity, and adds a sense of strangeness to the vessel in contrast to the more pragmatic designs more familiar in vessels this size. Additional security is provided by the posting of a small company from the Rimward Ranger Corps permanently posted aboard the ship for deterrence of local crime, investigations that may arise, holding on to passenger's weapons for them, and the like. They have their own comfortable barracks quarters, a small armory, forensics lab, and administrative office in the lower half of the ship amongst the rest of the crew, as well as small stations evenly spread throughout the ship.
The greatest challenge, of course, was designing and constructing a solar-sail mechanism large enough to move such a massive ship, and for that, they turned to specialists in ancient sailing vessel technology, creating a new system of automated masts and sail adjusters run by specially trained crew-members who spent two years training aboard both traditional waterborne sailing craft and a wide variety of space-traveling solar-sailers to know how to adjust the sails and adjust the ship's course to use the sails as much as possible, while the rest of the crew services the engines needed for precise maneuvering, inasmuch as it is possible for such a thing.
All things completed and finalized, the Dream of the Rim aims to be the biggest, grandest, and most luxurious cruise ship in the galaxy as a way of showing to the galaxy that the Outer Rim is every bit the equal of the Core worlds.
